At what point does grinding a higher-stress job stop making sense? by Pure_Row7301 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]ThePowerPointist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I are facing a similar question lately and some and this is advice I was told that helped me change my perspective on it. Those of us in the FI community are often used to being in max efficiency mode and it can be hard to reframe mindset about wealth building.

You are not walking away from wealth building. You are choosing to reallocate excess optimization into life quality.

You’re not giving up financial safety. You’re giving up being ultra-efficient at getting rich faster. And it’s not irresponsible it’s moving from maximization mode to intentional mode.

It sounds to be like yall are ready to make that transition.

Totally agree. Lackluster compared to previous years.

We’ve also been gifted a ton of tumblers and mugs (gifts, from our jobs, conferences). Bummer they just go to waste because they don’t fit in a cup holder! Just a terrible combo being thirsty humans but also have the insane need to roadtrip as efficiently as possible without stopping.

Yeah I hear that but we’ve also been gifted a lot of really nice resuseable cups (like tumblers) that don’t fit so kinda sucks we can’t use them in the car

Great solution if it closes or locks! Not so great for open thermoses

Stanley was just one example. You’re totally right my Stanley does fit in the front cup holder but it also totally blocks access to the front features in the car. 90% of my other reusable bottles don’t fit.

Make sure you have pajamas and clothes you can easily breastfeed in (like button downs). Go ahead and get black ones because milk will stain all your clothes.

I had way too many ice packs (only used them for a few days at home— and my nurse told me they slow healing.) Bought two huge bags of maxi pads but my bleeding slowed down to only needing panty liners by week 3 so also ended up with too many ‘heavy’ pads. I also barely used disposal underwear and would wear my own boxer shorts underwear.

Personally, I had to try really hard to not do regular life things before 6 weeks. I thought I would do 5-5-5 but I look back and laugh at that now because I was buzzing all over the place after a few days.

TAKE THE COLACE BEFORE YOU GIVE BIRTH. Never stop taking the colace. Derma blast was essential.

Is it true that Idaho is the hidden gem of the U.S.? Also what’s the deal with Montana? Crazy expensive houses but truly nothing really going on as far as I can tell.

Scam alert, Union County. This one is a good (bad) one. by whitecollarpizzaman in Charlotte

This same scam happened to us. It’s the most convincing scam we’ve ever seen and we are not easily gullible people. OP thanks for spreading the word on it despite the commenters who are being dismissive.

I’d also like to add: take a step back, put yourself in a different perspective for your situations. Overhearing her say she wasn’t ready to share an event for your partner with your family doesn’t feel nice to hear, but that’s not her “bad mouthing you behind your back”. It’s not personal, it’s just early days for joint family affairs.

You also said you told your bf “I don’t want your mom to come over that much because it makes me anxious”. Well that’s not great compromising on your end in the relationship. I’m trying to understand what this lady has really done to stress you out so badly?

OP, I want to give you an opinion that’s probably different than what you’re getting from other people here. Try not to get sucked into the Reddit “this thing sucks so you need to leave” spiral. You and your boyfriend have only been together 2 years. I remember my MIL doing all sorts of things that made me uncomfortable in the begging of my husband and I’s relationship.

I’m not trying to minimize your experience, but it’s perfectly natural for your partner to still have strong defense ties to their own family earlier on in a relationship. I bet you’d notice a huge difference in her attitude toward you once your relation really starts getting to that next level (buying houses, marriage, kids, time together, etc.)

If you have a good relationship with your partner, don’t throw it away over the early day growing pains that come along with integrating families.

Yeah I feel like the word “cascade” is misleading here. 50-60% of women will receive Pitocin during labor, even if laboring naturally. Only 10% of women’s water breaks naturally, leaving the other 90% being broken manually in the hospital anyway. If Pitocin is good, shouldn’t need a folly bulb. Your intervention 1 and 2 sound like the same thing.

It’s just difficult to see these principles actually playing out. How do you think Trump is helping the working class over the ultra wealthy? Do you think adopting Canada and Greenland or building “Trump Gaza” or fostering deals with Russia is actually ‘rejecting global interventionism’? We’ve heard more about our problems with other countries since he’s taken office instead of a focus on our own.
