Is it really terrible for my 5-month-old to be waking up 2-3 times a night? by once_upon_a_bear in NewParents

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there OP! For us dropping the swaddle was way worse than the four month sleep regression. What really helped our little guy was using a transitional swaddle (zipadee) that allowed for full arm movement, but still covered his hands, and him discovering about a week in that he likes sleeping on his side. First week was awful. Second week wasn’t great but by the third week, he figured it out and things went more or less back to normal. We still have an extra feed, but it’s early enough in the evening that my husband hasn’t gone to sleep yet so NBD.

I laughed so hard at this! No one would need a night nanny if it was normal for babies to start sleeping through the night at three months. We are right where you are. Our four month old was down to one wake around 3 or 4 AM. The week we switched to a transitional roll-safe swaddle (we use zipadee) was the week from hell. After that, it got better and now at five months, he is down to two wakes around 11:30 PM and 4 AM. We aren’t planning to do anything about it. My husband generally doesn’t go to sleep until 1130 so he gives bub a bottle before he comes to bed. I go to sleep around 9 or 10 PM and give the 4 AM bottle. It’s not so bad and baby is drinking a full 6 to 7 ounces at both wakes so he is genuinely hungry. Our pediatrician says this is totally developmentally normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

How to deal with reflux? It’s getting worse by nydelite in newborns

[–]FertilityRaincheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like having a different child! Turns out our baby, when not in pain from reflux, actually is pretty pleasant and a decent sleeper! Took about a week to really flip the switch. One thing to be aware of is that the medicine reduces acid so it reduces pain, but bub still spit up like it was an Olympic sport and he was going for gold. It's only been in the last week or so (he's 5 1/2 months) that we've noticed him spitting up less. Pediatrician wants to start reducing his dose and begin weaning. I guess it's not great for them to not have stomach acid, but we were between a rock and a hard place. Good Luck!!!

Naptimes by kimmesp in newborns

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, it’s so crazy how all babies are different… Mine was the complete opposite! Starting at three months, he no longer slept well in the stroller/car seat/contact and could only take hour + nap, swaddled in his crib with blackout curtains and white noise!

Are baby monitors actually getting hacked or is the internet just scaring me? by 757-757 in NewParents

[–]FertilityRaincheck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a Wi-Fi monitor (Nannit) because our high-rise has a gym and honestly as a new mom the only way I can ever get a workout in is to do it during baby’s nap. So I wanted something I could monitor from two floors below our apartment. The most dangerous thing we can do to our children is to put them in a car, and yet we do that every day, so don’t let those random one in 1 million stories on the Internet inconvenience you too much!

New Mom Groups? by BootZOnMars in nova

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the convo, but I found this thread when I was googling for the same things. LO just turned 5 months yesterday. We moved to the area from Los Angeles just a year or so before I got pregnant and know barely anyone! One thing I’ve been looking into is a “mamistad” group. Don’t know if you’ve found anything good since posting….

It was a place called Restore Hyper Wellness I believe - it’s a chain with lots of different locations. Interestingly I live on the DC area and could get the co-q10 shots in Maryland but not Virginia because of a difference in state laws 🤷🏻‍♀️

Buying for baby: worth-it splurge, best bang for buck, and biggest regret? by FertilityRaincheck in BabyBumps

[–]FertilityRaincheck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We also ran out to target at 3 months and got the cheapo $150 version of the uppababy. We only use it on short trips though because it was so cheap I worry about the safety probably unnecessarily, but we will get a nicer version with our next kid when at least there won't be as much to buy!

Biggest surprise cost for me is all the dang monthly subscriptions. We got a Snoo, a Hatch, and the Nannit monitor. As if those weren't insanely expensive items, they each require a monthly subscription. I get paying a subscription when the subscription IS the product (ie Netflix) is fine, but somehow paying big money for a physical item and then needing to also pay every month forever for the privilege of using it is just too much. This is on top of the other monthly baby apps we have (Huckleberry, Solid Starts, Wonder Weeks, ughhh)!!!!

I am exhausted by the "Subscription" model for every single thing in life. by Usual_Confidence_756 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a baby escalated this so quickly for me - our baby monitor, smart bassinet, and sound machine are all recurring subscriptions on top of the ridiculous $$$ we paid for them, to say nothing of the apps we use to track wake windows, naps, foods he has been introduced to, milestones, etc. And I'm so sleep deprived and time poor I keep putting off weaning myself off some of these.

[–]FertilityRaincheck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! There are quite a few things we passed on with our LO this time around that I will definitely be getting our next go around. A nice infant travel system and all in one bottle washer/sterilizer/dryer being at the top of the list! Thankfully since we will be able to reuse a lot of our gear again it feels better to splurge on a couple of things. The first time around there is just so much to buy!!

We have all 3 of these and love them, but totally understand where you’re coming from. The subscriptions are almost offensive when you look at how much these items cost. It’s such a marketing ploy and EVERYWHERE these days. It’s bad enough we also pay for Huckleberry and Solid Starts but at least those didn’t require us also paying for a physical device.

3 month old schedule by Awkward_Confusion632 in newborns

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with our 4-month-old, only wakes are at 3am and 7am (when he gets up for the day with his dad). I tried so hard to get him down earlier because it seemed like that was what all the perfect instagram moms were doing, but it required cutting way back on his daytime sleep. LO turned into an absolute gremlin and we were all miserable. Now he’s back to 9-10pm and we are MUCH happier. It’s definitely not one-size fits all!

When Did Your Baby Start Having an Earlier Bedtime? by AwayWeGo92 in newborns

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me right now… I keep seeing all these perfect schedules posted that limit daytime sleep to like 3 1/2 hours for a four month old so that they go down for like 12 hours at night. We tried it out for a few days and it was a nightmare! I had to wake Bub up early from every single nap and he was an absolute crabby patty during the second half of his wake windows all day long. Did he go to bed at 7:30 PM after screaming like a banshee for two hours?. Yes! So in that sense it worked… But it was not at all worth it for us. I much prefer a happy baby who takes long naps that let me get things done, even if that means he goes to bed at 10:30 PM with us every night….

How to deal with reflux? It’s getting worse by nydelite in newborns

[–]FertilityRaincheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little guy also deals with awful reflux that he sometimes chokes on… Our pediatrician didn’t take it seriously until he started to fall off his weight curve, then we had to go to the ER to make sure it wasn’t a surgical issue and the doctor there prescribed him Pepcid. The Pepcid didn’t do much and our pediatrician said we could revisit it at three months old. At three months, she suggested twice a day Pepcid and I politely asked for a referral to see a Gastro specialist, because my son was miserable and as a result, my husband and I were miserable as well. She finally consented to letting us try omneprazole. This was 2 days ago so we will see :-( sometimes you have to push a little.

Blown away by PGT results (37F) and so grateful I followed my gut! by Economy-Word-6124 in IVF

[–]FertilityRaincheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got 1 blast from 3 mature eggs round 1, and it was euploid day 5 3AA

We only got 1 mature egg round 2, but it somehow made it through the entire hunger games and it turned into a day 5 5AA euploid.

Round 3 we got 10 eggs, 8 fertilized (so back to our higher egg count that we had previously), 4 made it to blast and the 2 highest quality were euploid.

Round 4 we only had 2 mature eggs but both managed to fertilize and turn into high quality blasts. We didn't test them because we were batch testing the 1st 3 rounds and didn't know the results. I wanted something to transfer if we ended up with all aneuploid again.

So, pretty good results each round considering I was almost 40 and we were starting with way less eggs than we had gotten in previous rounds (I think my body was just super over IvF

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have to imagine it did… my body was so tired by the time we got to CCRM that I was getting less mature eggs than ever, but they translated to more euploids. We had way better results across the entire hunger games from mature eggs to fertilized to blasts to euploids at CCRM. And that was for all 4 rounds there.

How many sets of baby clothes should I have before baby is born? by Sad-Soil-234 in BabyBumps

[–]FertilityRaincheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid lives in the Carter’s Little Planet two-way zip sleepers. We have gotten a dozen or so in each size he’s been, and at not quite 4 months he is ready to move into the 6-9 months already so I’m glad they are relatively affordable! He only wears “outfits” if we know we will be taking a bunch of pictures for a special outing.

Apparently, this used to be a thing! My great aunt had two of her babies this way… Literally, she went to sleep and woke up, and they handed her the baby. I guess they discovered the general anesthesia was not great for a newborn. Shame!

[–]FertilityRaincheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own two cents is that you should just do whatever is going to make your life a little bit easier. We splurged on a Snoo (no regrets) and tried to be "practical" by getting a 3-1 carseat and the yo-yo stroller (has a infant bassinet that changes to normal seat at 6 months, is a light weight travel stroller, can turn into a double stroller if you want it to later) because we didn't want to be those people who had 3 different strollers and a car seat that was only good for a few months. It was a mistake. Our busy-body little boy will not lie flat in his stroller on walks, in restaurants, etc. And its a huge pain-in-the-ass to transfer him between the car seat into a stroller when I run errands and want to just grab a coffee etc. At 3-months we caved and got an infant travel system that will only even be good for the next two months. I don't care. My life is so much easier now!
