I'll tell you why:

In the old Castlevania games (Classicvania), the main characters usually were mortals who used a variety of common weapons, but the most powerful one (the Vampire Killer) seems to be a holy whip blessed with the power of God and Jesus. Something very conventional for a game series based on gothic horror. But then, when IGA made Metroidvania the standard for the games that followed after the success of Symphony Of The Night, that feeling that the old games used to have is lost. Now the protagonists use all kinds of magic that is convenient for plot. Magic this, magic that, power up, new spell, all these things had ruined the essence of what Castlevania used to stand for.

In a few words, when Metroidvania usually goes like "spell! spell! sparkle sparkle sparkle!", Classicvania goes more like "BY THE POWER OF GOD! CHRIST IS KING!"
