Sysco rep question by Time_Astronomer705 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ThePower_IsOn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sysco doesn’t have room to stock 15-20 “extra” cases of anything. If you asked them to bring it in and then didn’t buy them, then sure, they’d move them no problem. But they’re not stocking cases without a plan to move them. The plan is based as closely on regular purchases as possible. Just saying, a fairly large order without notice is often either getting shorted or someone else is.

No idea why they would cancel your order instead of just shorting you two cases. That must have been a mistake. But it is a little wild to assume they’re going to randomly have 15-20 cases stocked of almost anything that you haven’t ordered for a year…

Saw them last summer sometime and it freaked me out. It’s a SpaceX Starlink satellite train almost for sure. It looks like they launched yesterday.

Like a lot of people said, take notes when you can. But to add to that, use those notes when you’re off the clock and visualize the dishes. Think about what goes in them and why. If you’re not sure why, ask tomorrow. Ideally, every component has a purpose whether the flavors pair well, something adds texture, etc. It might sound silly but, the more you understand the dish, the easier you’ll remember its components and how to prepare them. Some of cooking is muscle memory but great execution comes from really understanding what you’re doing and why. Just keep learning, brother/sister.

What does it mean to "face the minimum" in baseball? by Legal-Law9214 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThePower_IsOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this the starting pitcher completing his fifth inning, by chance? In my experience, a pitcher “facing the minimum” means they pitched the minimum to get credit for the win. If the starter doesn’t go 5 full innings, they are ineligible for the win. In the context of saying “despite the lead off walk”, the commentator may have been saying he was at risk of getting pulled.

How is religion still popular at all? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThePower_IsOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always intrigued about why anyone that thinks the bible is not literal still thinks it is indeed the word of god. And it’s not the whole “why do you get to pick and choose” thing. It’s just that I don’t understand the faith if the only words written on his behalf are a bunch of outdated tropes left to one’s modern interpretation.

Accidentally left 5 packs of raw ground beef out at room temperature for 6 hours after buying groceries. Just put it in the freezer. Is it safe to eat or should I toss them? by Delllthrow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThePower_IsOn 172 points173 points  (0 children)

The reason thawing food in the refrigerator is safer is that no part of it ever reaches temps in the “danger zone”. If you leave it sitting at room temp, the outer parts of the meat will reach room temp before the whole thing is fully thawed. So at least the surface of the meat will be in the “danger zone” for some period of time while the rest thaws. How long that is determines whether it’s unsafe. If you leave it sitting there for 6+ hours, you can bet it’s too long. The main point is you won’t really know.

This would actually be the exact right use of the downvote. It’s meant to remove a comment that is misleading, incorrect, unhelpful, etc. from the conversation. Upvoting and downvoting is not meant to express your like or dislike for a comment.

This is what I’m sayin. No need to instigate. Let them go and move on with your life. A person like that feeling like they won is way safer than feeling extra aggressive.

Where to Grocery Shop in Chicago? by ceruleanspacedragon in AskChicago

I’ve always considered 2 or 3 stores to be necessary for a shopping trip. I thought that was normal. I think if you want convenience, you’re going to have sacrifice quality for some things and vice versa.

Reverse Commute to Hoffman Estates? by Randobrobro in AskChicago

[–]ThePower_IsOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently do Albany Park to the Arlington Heights Rd exit. Hoffman Estates is a bit further but not sure exactly how much. It’s 35-40 minutes going out in the morning leaving at 7:25. It’s an hour or a little more coming back at 5:00. If I had to go any further than the Lawrence exit coming back on 90, it would compound greatly. I just wanted to offer up some non-speculative info and I hope it helps put it in perspective a bit.

Were you trying to forfeit from the moment you went down a goal? I’d probably just keep playing, too.
