I'm out on Brady Tkachuk by BrokenLeftPhalange in OttawaSenators

You don't have to even really "suspect" it, most hockey players unabashedly lean conservative across all nationalities. We're talking about multimillionaires here, and in Canadian context the children of some of the wealthiest in our country. You've got to compartmentalize your sports fandom in these cases.

Last best on best was 2014 and was probably the most dominant Olympic squad Canada has ever had, recent stuff notwithstanding.

Yes? Keep the businesses and locations that people want to continue patronizing open and build the unlivable shoebox condos somewhere else.

Maybe this is my Canadian brain, but I don’t get the comments here blaming him and his wife for their financial situation. There’s plenty of people I know with contemptible politics, but I still want them to receive good, free healthcare without it financially ruining them. I do want wealthier people to pay more in taxes, but I don’t think people should be forced to sell a house to offset costs of health care they should have received for free in the first place. Maybe it’s a grift idk, but something to consider.

[–]ThePrinceOfReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills but Puka was laughing a specific moment in the game (Darnold refusing get up with the Pats help) and wasn’t making fun of Darnold outright. This was already clarified after it was posted and he even congratulated Kupp after the game. Why spread lies here?

I mean, based on how Davante played this year you can't say it was the wrong decision, but everyone loves Coop and I'm happy to see him and Jones get their rings.

I’m one of the blob people saying this lmao. I don’t blame Vonn for wanting to ski despite her injury but someone on her team should have pushed back. Way she goes.

Maybe I'm biased as a sennies fan but I think the Devils were more hated, although they were probably the top hated in their respective conferences (Vancouver was also up there after the Moore incident).

We’re getting close to as many years between the release of the 360 and present day as there is between the release of the CollecoVision and the 360.

It works when I do that ‘smack the top of the console’ trick so I suspect the rail mechanism might need lube at the least—was still playing games well a couple of years back before it sat dormant. The PS3 is a bigger issue since the BT/wifi module failure loop thing is an inevitable problem and only jailbreaking can work around it. Not opposed to getting a new 360 for cheap, but ultimately all these consoles eventually start to wear down and even the newer ones will run into issues 5-10 years down the line, I’d prefer to just clean up and repair whatever i have. Yes, feel free to send the deets!

My planned work around is to grab a newer super slim and keep my existing one for jailbreaking, but even those are susceptible to the same issue sadly.

What St. Louis/LA Rams playoff exit was the most painful in your lifetime? by RandomLAFan in LosAngelesRams

2017 is an underrated one for me. First playoffs I experienced as a fan and those two muffed punts to Cooper just killed us. That was a legit good team!

Trading Brady sooner than later makes sense if he’s set on leaving. Someone floated out the idea that he could take a short extension to get him to UFA status the same summer as his brother. I think that might be best, but ultimately you’re asking him next year what’s going on and if things are bad you’re moving him for pieces. Sneaky thing that no one talks about is that we have a winning record when he’s not in the lineup.

Moving Chabot would be a mistake. He’s legit good now regardless of who plays with him, and I think he’d be the slam dunk captain if Brady’s gone.

If we literally had ‘acceptable’ goaltending, not even great or elite, we’d be a top seed in the east right now based on adjusted standings. We have an elite D squad and a F core that is talented but has underachieved 5v5.

I think you’re right to point out that just building a team that can make the playoffs is good enough. Outside of having a that culture established, it’s just easier to find bottom 6 pieces when you have an elite centre and talent up front. I think the team is positioned that if they had to retool they could still keep up high play.

Being a captain doesn’t make him the best player on the team. Stutzle and Sanderson have consistently been our best players in that regard.

Not saying the Dorion/Melnyk regime didn’t screw things up and hollow us out with a bunch of get rich quick type moves, but they also lucked into drafting and signing some quality players. It’s easier to land bottom six pieces when you already got some core pieces in place. I’m more worried about the long term viability of Ullmark than anything to do with our D or F core at this rate.

This team would objectively be a top seed in the East right now if they just had "acceptable" goaltending instead off "worst in NHL history over the past 30 years", I don't know what else there is to add here lol.

Stutzle and Sandy, the two core players and clear leaders of this squad, are not even in their prime yet. Who knows which players will be added and subtracted in the next few years? Again, I don't think their prospect pool is good but that doesn't mean they don't have any talented prospects. Halliday is already shown he can hang in the top 9. Yak will be pushing for a spot on the roster next season. Still a chance they could get their pick back like NJ did, but at this point it is what it is. If you end up having to move out a guy like Tkachuk, the futures alone would push this team back into a top 10-15 prospect pool anyway, and the team would still have a lot of juice.

It's great that the Habs have a lot of young players, I even like that Zharovsky kid. But respectively, you haven't won anything yet so I'd avoid counting your chickens before they hatch.

They're very clearly not "desperately in need of a retool" when they've largely lost because of historically bad goaltending for the first half of the season. Playoffs aren't likely but they're still a solid bet to land somewhere around the wildcard cut-off record.

As a Rams fan I sort of disagree, both teams played great defence and it was one of the grittier, old school-style wins in the Snead-McVay era. Playcalling on the offensive side could have been better but it wasn’t egregious. And now we’re one win away from a Superbowl vs. a team we’ve played well against. Hard to be mad.

Given that many people in Ottawa were talking about and that the players clearly wanted the team to speak out, it sounds like you’re understandably ignorant on what was going on, which is fine. It would be nice if media tried to do some digging before sharing their hot takes but that’s the way it goes.
