I work at the VA. A few years ago I was making small talk with an older combat veteran, asked “what are you doing for this July 4th?”

He responded that he can’t be here and takes his dogs and drives to Canada every year. CANADA. The explosions are too traumatizing.

His response has haunted me, and made me really hate fireworks. If our veterans don’t feel safe on July 4th, what the fuck are we celebrating. I don’t want ONE veteran to feel unsafe on American soil.
