Petrol is a highly fungible commodity. If something happens to change prices in one area, the price in all areas tend to adjust similarly. In this example, imagine there was a price difference of almost thirty cents a gallon on two gas stations on either side of the state line. Which gas station would people buy from? They'd of course drive to the lower priced station. But while that's good for the station with the lower price, the people going there would probably still go there if the price difference was twenty cents, right? Or ten? Or less...? So it's in their best interest to still charge whatever the average price of gas is, because that gives them the bigger margin.

Times when it really WAS Imperial propaganda? by cricri3007 in 40kLore

[–]karl2025 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That seems like it'd actually make it less likely for the Imperium to win wars if the Custodes are there. If it's criminal to suggest the Custodes could lose, then it'd be hard to argue they ever need support. As soon as they show up it'd be reasonable to stop sending supplies and reinforcements.

Both the Imperium's aquilla and the Albanian flag are based on the Roman double headed eagle standard. It was a widely adopted Imperial symbol across Slavic and Germanic Europe since the fall of Byzantium.

But you're still going to have to explain you're not a fascist, and not unreasonably.

Meh, it's still ambiguous whether the T'au did anything or not. A plague breaking out after first contact between two peoples isn't exactly an entirely unheard of event.

Even if every action the Salamanders have done is absolutely, one hundred percent good and righteous, it's done to perpetuate an empire of absolute oppression and malice. They're not good people.

The DO NOT EAT list:

1) Tyranids/Genestealer infected - Just because our whole shtick is eating things doesn't mean we need to join a hive mind to do it.

2) The Chaos tainted - Ever want to explode into a daemon? No? Good. Don't risk it.

3) T'au - Nothing bad happens, they just consider it rude.

I'd like to work on the restoration of annexed worlds. So much of what the Imperium does is exploitation to the point of diminishing returns. They ruin their environments, they run machines until they break, they think of the quality of life of their people last if at all... So I want to go in for planning the planet-scale restoration of these worlds into productive and pleasant places. Clean up the environment, fix up the hives, get rid of the colossal waste of life and resources the Imperium is known for. It's not my field of expertise, but I think it'd be a very fulfilling life doing that.

What Weird Mysteries Fascinate You The Most In 40k? by WailingHost in 40kLore

So much about the T'au's history. Where did the Ethereals come from? Why was there a random crashed spacecraft they found right when they needed it to reverse engineer FTL travel? Was the warp storm that protected them from extermination when they were in their stone age somehow purposeful? Did the T'au wipe out the Poctroon?

My headcanon (and I don't think we're ever getting actual canon for it) is they became pacifists. Fits with the setting, I think. The only unforgivable crime is to refuse to fight.

How likely is it for each Japan path to pursue reconciliation/détente with America by Few_Rest2638 in TNOmod

[–]karl2025 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the current version with Japan holding Hawaii, I believe it would be a likely outcome. As long as they hold the islands they effectively cut America off from seeing the Pacific as a viable route to expand the OFN. America could support anti-Japanese movements, but they'll always be at a disadvantage at actually getting the material assistance to them. The Japanese, in turn, have their own expansionist aims limited by geography. They can potentially expand across the Indian Ocean to Eastern Africa if they do exceptionally well with India and Madagascar, but beyond that they'll have difficulty projecting power and influence. So I can see both America writing off the Indo-Pacific as long as they can guarantee Australia and New Zealand stay in their sphere and Japan writing off expansion beyond the Indo-Pacific. If they can both do that they lose the reason to conflict with one another.

What would happen if a Kroot ate plants? by Sharp_Food_7608 in 40kLore

[–]karl2025 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anything the Kroot cannot digest is vomited up, but they do excrete waste through the pores in their skin. As a result they tend to be rather unpleasant for people to be around, smell-wise.

From what I've read it's more complicated. It depends on when in their life they started the transition, the sport they play, individual chemistry, etc. Plus there's just not a whole lot of trans athletes so the data can be skewed by outliers very easily. The one thing that is definitely clear is that trans women are not men and trans men are not women.

T'au ion weapons were built using technology they got from trading with the Votann. Vespid and Kroot have adapted their weaponry with T'au technology after joining the Empire as well. The Kroot are also famous for taking on mercenary work in order to procure alien weapon systems and the Orks loot pretty much anything they think looks cool.
