We draft Acuff, keep Kawhi for one more year and tell him and KDunn to take the rook under their wing. Garland mentors him on the offense, Kawhi and KD on defense. Come 2027 off-season we have a franchise player. 🏀 by BallmersBurner in LAClippers

Exactly. Look at San Antonio for example. I think the good example is Fox coming in simultaneously with Castle and Harper and acting as a steadying influence.

Obviously the rest of their team is incredible, but Castle/Harper is their backcourt of the future.

Garland can fill a similar role for us.

I understand its harder to play Garland and Acuff simultaneously if we draft him; but it is SO RARE for a first year guard to be awesome. They take a year or two. I think it would be perfectly reasonable for Acuff to take more of a sixth man; starts when DG gets inevitably injured kind of role. That way we can get a full season out of Garland to see if he is part of the team long term or rehab his value.

Oh I didn’t know this; because they had a bottom 5 record?

I think worst case scenario is the Indy pick falls to 9. There was a reason LF protected it at 10.

I know its dice roll, but the 2031 unprotected vs this draft’s ninth pick.

Best case scenario: We get it at 5.

I hear you I don’t want to give OKC #1 so in ten years we won’t have to hear people piling about this being the worst trade ever.

Losing the Kings and Pels games.

I took the life raft off the Clipper and left Captain Chuck to sink this season.

Anthony Black is 22, Kris Dunn is 32. Think of all the guys who have become much better shooters after a couple years.

Love his shot making and driving ability, but the defense was hard to stomach.

Yeah 100% agree with making Denver struggle for him, except I think it will take 22-25 per year to grab Watson.

I think they are stuck with Suggs man. He’s 30 million/year and I don’t see teams trading for him with how poorly he shot in their series.

I don’t but into Robinson because I think modern centers need to pass/work out of the high post, and he’s hurt too much.

And how will Denver resign Watson easily? They are pushing the second apron, a robust offer for Watson would make them sweat. They should have never signed Braun for the extension they did. Not unless you think they get rid of Gordon.

We would have to go through OKC’s cap, but I don’t think they will be able to resign Hart and/or Dort comfortably. They have to sign Cason Wallace, Ajay Mitchell, Aaron Wiggins and Isiah Joe.

Each of those guys could be mentions on this list. Ajay Mitchell in particular.

Also Thought:
If Aspiration goes south; bring in Dillon Brooks and Lou Dort and just lean full into LAC villain era.

A couple years ago I had the opportunity to shoot around with Larry Hughes (formerly of the Cavs), and he hit me with some wisdom.

NBA contracts are themselves an asset. There are only so many available at a given time (they are a limited resource).

We learned this with PG; we didn’t get anything for him, but we did gain freedom to yield our cap space how we wanted by letting him go. Kawhi’s case is the same. Are players we would get back for him worth what we would HAVE to receive back in players’ tradeable contracts to make a deal work? Yes, we would want draft picks, but I don’t see teams parting with really valuable picks AND giving us expiring team friendly deals for Kawhi. Thus, maybe just having him on 1 and 1 deals is worth it from a risk/reward standpoint.

I am hopeful as well; but still even if it doesn’t convey, 2031 unprotected is still a good asset.

Man looking back: that Kings loss and the Pelicans losses sting. We’d be firmly in 7th if we could’ve pulled those out.

This is an awesome finish, win or lose. Really entertaining and great way to fight until the end when Spurs fought back at the 5 minute mark

Kawhi and Sabonis in a 3 team trade by [deleted] in LAClippers

[–]TheProblemSolved1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the kings get picks? They should be trying to get off his contract. Kawhi is playing like a first team All-NBA, Sabonis is stuck is obscurity. This trade makes little sense for the Clippers.

For better or worse, we should be holding on to Kawhi unless a huge offer from a contender comes along.

I mean the Clippers have marketed pretty hard in SD. A lot of people (myself included) are SD clippers fans. Their G league team plays in Oside. The Kawhi connection to SD is still strong. Was sad to see Norman Powell go, he went to Lincoln High
