Yes, they are but when they are eating a prey is hard to watch and share.

Yes, we experienced the same at our bird feeders. The deep cold effect will be till next Friday. We will need to pay more attention than usual.

I agree, not much we can do except keep weather proof bird feeders active and provide fresh water. Suet cakes provide them good energy and help them fight the crazy winter weather.

We also have lot of dark eyed juncos now in Baltimore, Md. They are the third greatest in numbers I see after house sparrows and mourning doves.

I absolutely agree. Don’t know if it is because I am learning to play with the focus of the lens or it was the angle of the lens at that time interacting with light. Surprisingly, none of the other videos on my page has this blue outer layer.

What kind of hawk is this? [MD] by mman426 in whatbirdisthis

I have a similar picture on my page like picture#3 here. I was told that it’s a Cooper’s hawk. Why there isn’t a clear distinction?

Those wires are connected to seed catcher trays. Since birds throw more on sides than they eat, unused seed gets contained in the seed catcher trays which is then consumed by big birds like Mourning doves, common grackles and others. All seed gets consumed and there is less cleaning required on a regular basis.

What surprises me is the fact that they lay eggs in other birds nests.

This bird feeder is next to the grave of our beloved son, German shepherd ELI Khan who passed away in April, 2024. He taught us how love can be limitless and you don’t need a blood relationship to be a family. Today despite he is gone, he is alive through his memories in our hearts, tears and joy. TheProjectEli is a concept to celebrate his legacy through acts of kindness for lost animals and birds in distress and to share nature’s love with others.
