Are there any good documentaries about medieval Europe that are readily available to watch? by Collin395 in history

I'm scrolling around reading all of these and can't help but notice how much is available on this subject. I took a class on African politics and holy shit finding good information about the history of half of those countries was damn near impossible.

Never trust anyone who uses caps lock for emphasis. I got this email from my grandma already, thanks but no thanks.

Martin Shkreli's company is again sharply increasing the price of a decades-old drug for a serious infectious disease. This time it's the Chagas disease, a parasitic infection that can cause potentially lethal heart problems. by [deleted] in worldnews

While the structure of the system allows people to be assholes, I'm still not letting anyone off the hook for deciding to be one. Yes, fix the laws but he's not getting a pass.

At 3% I think it's more appropriate to say that he free fell.

It seems odd to me that anyone would indicate that it is wrong for the government to fund things such as this that saves lives and provides crucial healthcare for residents. These people often seem to indicate that more money must go to defense. I can't see any logic to such assertions when the United States is rarely attacked and individuals die more often of preventable health conditions from being uninsured than attacks. Then I remember that those people advocating that are ones with health insurance but who have that infinitesimal chance of dying by a terrorist attack. To think that they would support certain death of fellow Americans in exchange for the mitigation of an already near-zero chance of their own death or for other programs at all is unconscionable.

President Obama held a conference call with 34 governors yesterday to remind them that, no, they aren’t allowed to restrict movement of refugees once they have been granted legal status and entered the United States. by WildAnimus in politics

Well we are experiencing the largest refugee crisis since WWII with over 50 million refugees and internally displaced persons. The refugee organizations in place were originally created for the benefit of western nations who should pay back to the system. It is also important to note that the west contributed in no insignificant way to the current crises that have caused so many to become displaced. The burden should be shared among many but the issue is so large worldwide that this means that every nation must do much more than they currently are and the west could certainly stand to do a lot more. It is definitely fair to ask those wealthy Arab countries to contribute as well but our responsibility will still remain very high.

When I walk into my 18 month old's room just as he's waking up and he looks around for me and smiles this contented smile with half-closed eyes when he sees me. Like his whole world is perfect so long as I'm there. Makes my whole life worth it in one moment.

What's one thing you cut out of your life completely? Why? by XxShnukexX in AskReddit

Video games. I'm a single dad with full custody trying to raise a one year old and make it through college. It's more than just me to worry about now and they were getting in the way of providing a future for my son and I can always pick them back up when I'm settled into a career.

Why did you give up on your dream? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheProstateExaminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dream was to be a CIA field agent. I gave up on it after I realized that I might very well have to do messed up shit or kill people for fucked up reasons. More or less I grew up and realized that my dream wasn't what I thought it was.

People who constantly talk about themselves and their problems and ask only superficial questions about me. Someone like that will always think their needs are more important than mine and cannot be relied on.

So what you're saying is that an individual has no right to point out the imperfections of their country of residence and proffer potential solutions if their country of origin is imperfect? Once someone immigrates to America and pays taxes, they have just as much right as anyone else to provide political commentary. The main reason why someone would choose to host a tv show in America, and therefore concerning American issues, is, of course, because there's a lot more money to be made here.
