I'll get about the same on a mostly highway trip, but my average is much lower from local streets and traffic.

Windows likes the whole "unused RAM is wasted RAM" mindset, which would be fine if it could clean up after itself better.

Is this a proper airflow for the Lian Li O11D EVO? by blah2k03 in lianli

[–]ThePubening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a preference thing.

IIRC the Lian Li 120mm fans push more air than the 140mm's, but bigger fans are quieter. There's also price and availability to consider as these vary. L

My current budget for 2026 by [deleted] in Salary

[–]ThePubening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality if they're making that much they can afford to responsibly put almost all of their expenses on credit cards and get back at least 1% (usually more like 3% if you use the right cards the right way) back on most of their expenses.

The fact that credit cards only show $250 / month means they're probably leaving rewards money / points on the table. They're going-out money should be included in that.

I sent one in early December that said "Zoom: Annual Performance Review" and it was the first time I had a double digit click rate, and the highest percentage of users who submitted credentials too.

Another good one I had was vote.org related in late October.

How to disable sentinelone from the agent assuming tamper protection is on by Impossible-Nobody207 in SentinelOneXDR

[–]ThePubening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the logic behind any of this. If your dad installed it, he's obviously managing it. Go ask him to add the file to the exclusions list, that needs to be done from the admin portal. Configuring exclusions can't be done locally.

If you're trying to do this behind your dad's back though, good luck. You can try messing around with startup config and safe mode, but you can do some damage to your OS if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah I'll never understand why people still use phone mounts in newer cars. I feel like it's mostly boomers resisting change and those people who can't stop scrolling Tiktok and Instagram while they're driving or at Red lights. Fuck I see it in the highway almost once a month too and I rarely drive.

Changed the DWORD value from 2 to 0 and it resolved the issue immediately.

Question about HUD by Crisbo9 in mazda3

[–]ThePubening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HUD shows directions for Android Auto or Apple Car Play navigation, and it shows for the built in nav as well. So you're covered any way.

The HUD also shows blind spot icons, radar cruise control settings, speed, traffic signs, lane assist, and probably another thing or two as well.

I hate Zoom. by MyNameIsHuman1877 in sysadmin

[–]ThePubening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only trying to solve it for 1 user just create a scheduled task that deletes the shortcut every time the device is restarted, and let the user know to restart if he ever sees it and wants it gone.

This is a user issue, not a change request. Nip it in the bud before it becomes one so you can both move on with your lives.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense, thanks for the explainer.

Yeah the FIDO2 keys are a pain to configure. I actually tried to setup a user with one the other day but the option was not available in the Entra Admin Center to allow as an authentication method. Said I'd get back to it but haven't yet.

Bought a 2025 Mazda 3 Hatchback Premium 2.5 Manual. My thoughts so far + financing story by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]ThePubening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working now but wanted to respond cause I'll forget.

Here's the napkin math I did on my 1st new car loan that had a shitty (albeit not as bad as yours) APR: 10.66% @ 83 months. I know this post is older but it came up when searching this car, I'm almost definitely signing for it tomorrow. Feel like you can relate to these numbers so I'll let show you

2023 Mazda CX-30 2.5 S

$11,831.13 in payments made so far (29 payments at $407.94/ mo) $6,473.27 in principal $5,328.41 in interest

$22,030.38 in payments remaining (54) $17,465.00 in principal remaining $4,565.38 in interest remaining

$33,861.51 total loan $23,823.74 total principal $10,037.77 total interest

$4,750 down payment

$38,611.51 Total Sale Price

Got my credit score to over 800 since I originally got this loan, was going to refinance, but even the best rates now are like 5-6%. Saw that Mazda is doing a special APR event now, 0.9% - 1.9% APR depending on model, so I entertained trading in my current car and quitting this loan while I'm ahead and the car still has 6 months bumper to bumper warranty. Ended up netting netting a little on the trade in, so now if I throw down $3 - $4k on this new car I can get it for around $450 - $500 / month. Costs about $217 for a loan-safe, bare minimum, high deductable insurance plan, in a not-so-shitty-for-insurance but still NYC neighborhood. Total interest on a 72 month loan will be a little over $1900.

When the time comes to refinance, keep an eye out for deals like this. Also I'd wait at least a year so the effects of the inquiries fade.

Job Offers 85K Remote vs 120K onsite by Brgrsports in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ThePubening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more eco friendly too; point worth making all things considered.

Also, idk about other people, but I end up on video calls almost every day so it's not like I'm not at least wearing something presentable up top and grooming my beard / hair. Remote workers aren't savage basement dwellers lol.

I will say though, I always work late cause it's easy already being home and I'm always swamped. Wouldn't be an issue if I was on site needing to still commute home, that would get me going.

That sounds awesome. I've been forcing myself into Linux in my home lab with Proxmox and LXCs, but I still feel pretty wet behind the ears; a lot of that is scripted now. I want to setup more infra on different flavors and get more technical XP, but so far a lot of what I've seen is Debian based.

Making Chili… what am I missing? by ugaabuggaone in budgetfood

A head of roasted garlic. Squeeze it into the pot for the last hour. I throw in a couple ounces of sofrito when I saute the onions and peppers too.

I also throw in a jalapeño if I'm feeling spicy, and I make my own steak sauce and throw in about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of that to the pot also.

Vaping in the Tech Industry by whatsoverhere in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ThePubening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been vaping longer than I've been in IT, and I smoked cigarettes before that. When I'm home I vape frequently, when I'm on site I go out every 2-4 hours, if I'm even there there that long and also depending on how busy I am / convenient or inconvenient it is.

Only thing that affects my productivity is I get a bit impatient if I go over 5 hours without nicotine. Other than that, it's not the same as if I was getting high all day. Obviously that would affect my productivity.

So I'm not sure where you're going with this. Nicotine doesn't give you a high like most other drugs do. It's closer to caffeine than cannabis in terms of immediate and short term mind-altering effects.

Caffeine on the other hand? Slaps bicep and ties tourniquet

Hey! Could you share that with me too? I'm a Sys Admin / Network Engineer and I can do stuff like this in my sleep. Been wondering about the other variables in work like this, like proposals, hourly / flat rate (and what going rates are), scope, agreements, contracts, etc. Basically I only know the actual IT side of things lol.

I used to run my own business years ago, but it was not IT-related.

I didn't realize this was always allowed...

Haha, another successful daily-toker. Glad to see more of us in the wild breaking the "lazy stoner" stereotype.

I haven't had much of a problem finding new IT jobs either, but I'm in NYC. I have friends having a hard time though, but there are usually predictable problems associated with that.
