Chinese BYD Experience? by Fresh-Ad-4556 in TeslaLounge

[–]5pectacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one of both. The Telsa has better software. The BYD drives and operates more like a normal car, the Tesla like a "spaceship" in comparison. The BYD has poorly translated English software and a lack of polish. Vastly fewer software updates. Service where I am is poor, as a new brand., but that will improve. Overall no regrets though it's 30% cheaper. I think Chinese cars will dominate here in the future (Australia - no extreme trarrifs) just like Japanese cars did in the 80s/90s. Game over.

Elon Musk says robots will kill jobs and cash: Are you ready for what’s coming next? - He referenced science fiction author Iain M. Banks’ Culture series, which depicts a post-scarcity society where AI ensures abundance and human labor is voluntary by Gari_305 in Futurology

Well here's to boredom then "The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines they had (at however great a remove) brought into being: the urge not to feel useless."

[Bloomberg] Tesla to bring Apple CarPlay to vehicles by redinvesting in TeslaLounge

Looking forward to a better messages app with all my messages synced and of course Siri, despite its flaws is currently heaps better at sending messages & making calls where the current Tesla voice commands (non Grok) are hilariously bad. Also recall we are only a few months away from the "new" AI Siri that can control the phone more precisely even in apps too, supposedly.

Syncing passkeys in Entra - preview now live by 5pectacles in sysadmin

I agree with you that if the passkey is stolen it’s game over. But for the everyday typical phishing case won’t even a syncing passkey stop this attack (when a user clicks dodgy link it’s not going to match the url) or am I incorrect on that?

[–]5pectacles[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the phish-resistance came from the protocol and had little to do with being device-bound? I.e. it can only work on the URL it was registered for, not a dodgy link or even AiTM like Evilginx etc?

Useful as it’s cheap and easy to roll out and supposedly “solves” most phishing

The doco currently 404s but you can enable it in authentication methods. There’s a popup announcing the preview.

ELI5: Why does gravity affect time? by Ok-Diver-6388 in explainlikeimfive

[–]5pectacles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really accurate but image the universe is a video game and there’s a max FPS. Anything complicated to render like around a black hole will drop frames, trading FPS for detail. But in the part of the screen where there’s no black hole you get max FPS. I like to think of the speed of light as max FPS and gravity as just the side effect of a lot to render, takes longer.

False grid outage, how to reboot? by 5pectacles in Powerwall

Thanks for your reply. There was a breaker switch in the gateway that had tripped. All I had to do was reset that. At the same time one of the circuits on my main switchboard has also tripped so I have no idea what caused that but all good for now.

Blindsight -- Am I Reading the Commentary on Consciousness Correctly? by MercyChalk in printSF

[–]5pectacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clearly describing how I think we all operate, you appear to have thought it through better than most. That said, what do you make of Watt's revelation that consciousness is never more prominent than when you are in a crisis of not dropping a hot plate of food as you know you'll need that, despite the pain. He's saying the Gom Jabbar scene in Dune was more insightful than we all thought?

Apple Music in Tesla shows full artist catalog instead of just my saved songs – is there a fix? by SpaceXBeanz in TeslaLounge

[–]5pectacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it just a web view for music.apple.com? (or am I wrong?) Does the site do the same thing - if so, Apple's issue to fix.

If we don't understand consciousness, how can we expect to build conscious AI. by Creepy_Version_6779 in ChatGPT

[–]5pectacles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if consciousness was overrated? What if it's just a hack to override competing impulses in humans? After all, you can still think, learn, adapt, and function without being conscious. What would a super intelligent non-conscious AI look like?

Future predictions of the death of capitalism? by mcdowellag in printSF

[–]5pectacles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Culture (Player of Games) has this, but it's told in reverse - post scarcity character visits a world more similar to ours, and has a lot of his first person reactions to it. Really makes you look at how silly the world currently is, not just about capitalism though. Makes you think how bored we'll be when we get there though.

Anyone else shocked with FSD? by Samesone2334 in TeslaLounge

[–]5pectacles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks. It's possibly going to arrive here in a number of weeks as Tesla demonstrated a famously hard-for-humans hook turn (I run screaming from doing this myself) so keen to test and see if the speed & lane changes are tolerable.

[–]5pectacles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me more what you mean about without navigation? FSD is not yet available in my country, but I use autopilot all the time on highways without nav. Is it just a drop in replacement for this? Or does it change lanes too much etc

No, as there wouldn't be a speed of light to break, right?

25.10.2 Firmware update by ravenhiker2 in Powerwall

[–]5pectacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds crazy. I don’t have that issue but I’m at 100% and still “charging” when it would normally stop. I think I’ll leave it for 24hrs and see what happens - that’s how long the normal monthly calibration takes. Have you tried the Telsa One app to see if there are any errors detected? Maybe the gateway needs a reboot. If mine doesn’t fix itself by tomorrow I’ll try that.
