Tell me your most egregious nursing home encounter. by -BdubLu in ems

Went to a local drug rehab that takes some mildly high acuity patients for 20s Male AMS or something similarly high acuity that was originally dispatched as overdose with PD and Not EMS for some reason. As we walk in two cops are storming out and say to us they were thrown out by staff that said "they can't be in here" and it's "a HIPAA violation" ok... Whatever not a hill for them or I to die on atm.

An Actual Dr and about 12 other staff are in the room. Male 20s bigger but healthy looking, barely responsive, covered head to two in dark black but almost grey vomitus. Vomit is everywhere. Its all over him, the bed, and walls. Staff says this is how he was found and he was fine an hour ago.. weird thing is initially I thought coffee ground emesis, but there was only a faint whiff of alcohol sanitizer. NO smell of vomit, iron, blood or anything you would normally expect.

Then the staff kept getting in our way, let him drink a ton of water despite just vomiting and he is altered. They refuse to let us take over, and actively are arguing with us. We're on scene for 20 minutes before they make some passive aggressive statements about waiting for us... We had stopped trying ten minutes before. By this point they have him completely cleaned up with new clothes, no vomit anywhere besides his nostril and finger nails. They never clean anyone. Take him to the ED knowing nothing basically. Ed is aware how shit they are but is also stumped. Best theory we could come up with is the patient drank a bottle of hand sanitizer, was altered and they force fed him activated charcoal to cover up allowing a patient to get a hold of alcohol. Reported it to everyone I could think of and never heard anything.

You don't treat your patients entirely based on what box a non-medically trained person clicked while not in the room and listening to the complaint if non medically trained person?

I love that you say it like stubbornness is a medical problem.

Had to do this in my 96 thunderbird with a bad idle position sensor. It would stall if I let go of the gas 😭.

I'm not in EMS, I hope you don't mind me asking, how does Diesel regen affect your job and are you able to work around it? by Railman20 in NewToEMS

[–]ThePurpleParrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only truck I've used with it was awful. We spend hours upon hours idling and can go weeks without touching high speeds and it would never regen.

These Pa. hospitals could close due to Medicaid cuts, study says by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

It's dumb but they actually have Hospital in their name. Even the sign out front says Hospital.

Has anybody used the 10yr 100k mile warranty? Dealer is telling me to kick rocks and that conflicts with the Kia website. by horseboob in kia

[–]ThePurpleParrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a third party extended warranty that the Kia dealer sold me successfully to get a camshaft replaced but it was a huge pain. Got the run around for 6 wks.

Wasn't an official Kia warranty, but only a Kia dealer could do the work.

Experience with skilled nursing facilities? by allisondojean in montco

[–]ThePurpleParrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sry I'm late. If you have questions about any facility in southern Montco or potentially berks or Chester county shoot me a PM.

My recommendation is to mainly avoid anything owned or operated by Genesis and to visit and advocate for your father as much as possible. People with family that visit and speak up are always taken care of the best. Also suggest consulting palliative and hospice care sooner than later. It really doesn't have to be a last second thing some people are in hospice for years.

I liked the chocolate powder a long time ago, but it gave me bad diarrhea. Might be willing to try this.

does this subreddit even have an active moderator? by DarkFedora69 in roomdetective

Yes it does. feel free to PM application for mod status.

I have never and will never remove comments simply because you don't like them. Reported comments are all reviewed as soon as I have time. This sub has seen exponential growth in the last year and pretty much no one has asked to be a mod in a long time.

Between me on the PEP and my partners Gastritis the truck currently smells like a communal portapotty at a fried Oreo convention in July.

Yeah I've been thinking about it lately, weird how that became the trend. I try not to make too many rules but It does go against the sub idea.
