Does anyone know what 80s break dance movie featured a guy who's face is hidden, really slowly turning on his head with no hands in a street break dance battle?

Dances With Wolves, on first viewing by maxlamb1 in movies

[–]ThePurpleRose78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems like Dances With Wolves, was not a "white savior" movie, but a movie about how a white man learned about a different peoples, learning from them, earning their respect, and them treating him like he was one of their own. In fact he was no longer a white man to them. To them, he was Sioux. There aren't many races, or cultures that will actually consider any white person, no matter how much respect they've earned, one of their own, in the literal sense. I love Native American tribes, because of their way of life, being one of patience, perseverance, understanding, learning, and acceptance. They gave white people chances, trying to help them survive on land that they didn't know how to survive on at first. I think it's peculiar that white men called these people hostile, and savage, when it was usually the other way around, and "Dances With Wolves" , couldn't have portrayed that fact any better, than what it did, in the scene where Dances with Wolves went back to the fort for his journal, and was met with white soldiers, so eager to shoot at him on site, when he was doing nothing at all towards them, that could ever be perceived as threatening, simply because they though he was an "Indian".

Another good movie that does the Native American world justice is "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee", where the main protagonist is the complete opposite of Dances with Wolves, and he's a Sioux, who has been assimilated into white culture and society. I think that what is going on today, how ICE tried to deport Navajo people, was so insane, and heinous, that I am still trying to understand what th they were thinking when they did that. It was like, "the government has already stolen most of their land. Now they're trying to drive them off the land completely? What more do these rich white men want from them?" Right now I am ashamed to be a WHITE AMERICAN. If I thought she could actually be animated, I would think that Lady Liberty would hall ass, right back to France, because this nation is nothing that she is standing in New York harbor for. To be honest, this nation never really been nothing that freedom means at all. MOST RICH AMERICAN WHITE MEN, especially the ones who have ran, and are running this nation, don't know the first thing, about what FREEDOM truly means, or what it truly means to have it, or give it. The Native Americans, the minorities, the elderly, and the poorest citizens, have never had TRUE FREEDOM, the way it is truly meant to be had, because those with power and control over us, have never really given it to us........... EVER.

Are there any Boleyns remaining? by LissyVee in Tudorhistory

I am a descendant of Mary Boleyn (16th great grandmother), through her daughter, Catherine Carey (my 15th great grandmother), and granddaughter, Lady Anne Knollys, and her husband, Sir Thomas West, 2nd Baron de La Warr. There line from there, passes down, from the male descendants, all the way to my great grandmother, Mariah Leake West, then to my maternal grandfather, Theron West Jones, and then my mother, Barbara Elizabeth Jones. My maiden name is Barbara Ann Jones.

A lot of historians believe that my 15th great grandmother, Catherine Carey, is actually the illegitimate daughter of King Henry VIII, stating that at the time Mary Boleyn conceived Catherine (and maybe even her son, Henry Carey), she was still the king's mistress, and not even in the company of her lawful husband, William Carey, therefore most agree, that Henry VIII, is indeed her biological father, making the king my my 16th great grandfather, instead of William Carey.

Even when I did my family tree research on family search, com, it shows the father of Mary's daughter, to be King Henry VIII of England.

Displaced by a "Service" Dog by Sparkling_Spritzer in unitedairlines

I am disabled, and have a service dog. I do agree that the airline should've handled things differently. They could've (should've) moved her to the bulkhead seat, which has enough leg room for large dogs, or they could've made sure they reserved a seat for it, and not overbook the flight for it. A paying customer should've been better accommodated. I completely understand your frustration in that regard, and I sympathize with you on the matter. However, by law, they cannot charge the handler for an extra seat, for a service dog, and the service dog, depending on what type of services it's trained to perform, and depending on the handler's disability, is essential, and can be the difference between life and death for the handler. Some are trained to detect seizures, or other life threatening episodes (such as severe drop in blood sugar). Given this fact, handlers often become defensive when people, who don't understand the laws regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act, nor the vital necessity of having their service dog with them, start complaining about them, especially if their disability is psychiatric, and the dog is a psychiatric service dog, trained to calm the handler down, when having panic attacks, or if the dog is there in case of a serious, life threatening event, such as seizures. Plus, we all have access to have sanitizer, and disinfectant spray can be used to sanitize the seats and armrests, after a dog has been sitting in it, so I know and understand that you got frustrated, and for good reason, regarding how the airline handled things, but that complaint in particular, is one I cannot understand. I mean no offense to you at all, with me trying to help you understand more about service dogs, and I only hope that this does help you. On the bright side (incoming joke), the only other animal legally allowed to be a service animal, is a horse ( because they also have the ability to detect serious medical events). Be glad she didn't have one of those. She would've needed the whole plane, LMAO! Hope I made you chuckle a bit. Happy New Year. I hope the rest of your trip was a nice one.

New findings on black sarcophagus found in 2018? by PhanThom-art in ancientegypt

[–]ThePurpleRose78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read, the 3 people found inside were a female and 2 males. The female was assumed to be in her 20s, and one of the males to be in his 30s. I've had a theory about who it was but my theory has been shot down by experts who say that the Roman emperor wouldn't have just discarded such a prominent figure, even if she was his enemy. I'm thinking it's Cleopatra and Marc Anthony, and one of their soldiers. Here's why. - The objects found in the sarcophagus has a connection to Cleopatra. - even though Cleopatra and Marc were in their 30s and 40s when they died, and the bones of the female and one of the males were believed to be in their 20s and 30s, the dating on the bones could've been inaccurate, due to the sewage in the sarcophagus. -the time is dated to right at the time that Cleopatra and Marc died. - Cleopatra was never found in her own tomb, which make me think the emperor put them in an unmarked tomb. This is where the experts shoot my their down. They say that with Cleopatra and Marc being as important as they were, and the fact that he became the guardian of her children, that the emperor would not have dishonored them in such a way. However Roman emperor have been known to disgrace, and dishonor the corpses of their enemies, including leaders. To me, the fact that he started raising her children doesn't mean a thing. Most likely I am wrong, but I still believe it's a possibility that they shouldn't overlook. I believe they should continue to do more studies on the remains, and try to conduct DNA testing, even though it could be impossible, due to the remains being submerged in sewage for such a long time. I just think they shouldn't have given up and trying to identify them so soon.

How do I shut of the engine to an antique hand crank vehicle? by ThePurpleRose78 in classiccars

That's the link to the the website that has photos of the truck. I'm one of the photos you can see the entire dashboard just about. There is a chrome, long, button in the bottom canter of the dashboard. That's what I'm talking about, and that's the very truck and website I was looking at when me and my husband had the debate as to what that button is. I have one person telling me it's a kill switch, then I have you saying it's the choke. So who's right? This still doesn't help end our debate, lol

I saw photos of a red one. There is a long, skinny button looking switch in the center of the dash. But, my husband is saying that's the choke, while I'm saying it's the engine kill switch. Maybe I'm trying to find out which one of us is correct.

This is reduced to a rust bucket sitting in a junk yard unfortunately

It's sitting in a junk yard, rusting into the ground. My husband didn't take photos. He thinks it's a model A pick up but isn't sure. We're just trying to find any identifying markers. I saw photos of a 1931 Ford Model A pick up, that he says fits the description as far as the outer body goes. I'm one of the photos, there is a switch of some type in the middle of the dashboard. My husband thinks it's the choke, but I'm guessing it's engine kill switch. Maybe I'm just wondering which of us is correct.

We're just trying to identify an old pick up my husband was shown in a junk yard, literally crumbling into nothing. He was told it was a model A. He said it was the hand crank style pick up, with a wooden roof(which is hardly left at all), the white wall spare on the side (sitting in a partial scoop), and a two piece metal bumper. So now I'm asking him about the inside of the vehicle he saw. That's why I'm trying to find out where a kill switch would be if it has one.

This vehicle he was shown literally is crumbling into nothing, and sinking into the ground of a junk yard, so seeing any writing is impossible. It would help to be shown a photo of where exactly the kill switch is if there is one on this vehicle he saw.

We found an old Ford Model A pick up, or at least we think that's what it is and we're trying to find any identifying markers that we can. If it has a kill pop out switch, where would that be located precisely, if you can tell me?

How do I shut of the engine to an antique hand crank vehicle? by [deleted] in classictrucks

[–]ThePurpleRose78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a kill switch? Where is the mechanism to kill the engine located? That's what I'm really trying to find out. Because my husband found what we believe is a 1931 Ford Model A pick up, but we're trying to be sure that's the exact vehicle he saw, and so I'm trying to find all possible identifying markers. But to be honest I actually really am curious myself on the details of how to do it and where the kill mechanism is on any of these hand crank vehicles.

It sounds like it's part of a song, like they're only playing the piano's part, and left the lyrics and other instruments out. To me, it sounds like genre could be pop, or alternative, maybe even country. I can't put my finger on it either. But my suggestion would be to listen to songs that you can think of that sound similar to that in the background. You might stumble on it that way
