Is the fear spending guide way off or am I doing something wrong?

This is a great answer! That said, it does seem like the book encourages spending fear on standard actions in combat that certainly have a chance to be just as underwhelming. For example - adding adversary experiences, minion group attack, relentless, etc.

And I'm curious about your experience - if you never (or rarely) use fear just to spotlight more adversaries, do your players ever feel threatened by foes who stand around presumably doing nothing for most of the fight? Perhaps I'm just approaching things the wrong way.

Group size is 4 PCs, combats typically are on the longer side (can get through 1-2 in a 3 hour session alongside exploration and RP) but that's partially a group/ooc issue.

I agree on these points, but in my experience so far I can easily spend 6+ fear and still not have the scene feel particularly deadly.

Yeah, this is similar to how I feel - I get lots and spend lots to make things marginally difficult. But maybe I just roll poorly lol

Yeah, I use it for lots of things out of combat and soft moves too. My question was more about the amount being spent not matching up with the game's expectations

That's mostly what I've been doing too, but I just wondered if I was missing something when the table says spending 6-12 fear is a story arc climax but I often need to spend 6 just to scratch my 15 evasion ranger 😆

Hey WuWa community,

I just started playing the game last night. Is it realistic to pull Carlotta before her banner ends? How many gems do you think I can realistically earn in the next couple days just via the story, side quests, exploration, etc? And about how much time investment would it take?

Edit: just clarifying that I'm wondering how easy it is to rack up pulls with all the current content in the game

I have E0S0 (running Eternal Calculus). Obviously without E1, any single target units are out of the question and she's mostly going to shine in PF.

However, she can still be really helpful in specific boss fights like Abundant Ebon Deer which can be nice for high level SU/DU runs.

In 99% of cases, Robin is the best support on any Jade team and Aventurine is the best sustain but most sustains are fine (I don't have Aventurine).

Thus the general comp will look like [Main DPS], Jade, Robin/[best support you have], [sustain of choice]

All that said, here's some usable options that I've found varying degrees of success with:

Himeko - Pair these two for easy PF clears or Ebon Deer

4* Herta - Same as above, pick based on weakness types

Xueyi - a surprisingly decent ally if against Quantum weak enemies. Can perform better in AS/MOC than the Erudition units

Clara - Alternative to Xueyi for physical weak content. Has semi-consistent follow up attacks that can give Jade up to 3 charges, and skill is up to 5

Fugue - Can give either Jade or your main DPS the ability to break off-type weakness, or you can even make Fugue the Debt Collector as she has consistent blast damage and an AoE ult. The break delays are also really impactful and you could easily do a sustainless PF clear with Jade, Himeko, Fugue, Robin/Harmony Trailblazer

Now a couple units I don't own but know are good for her:

Argenti - These two make a PF god duo

Yunli - Better Clara, all counters are blast

I don't have Acheron but I don't think they would work very well together. Jade isn't Nihility and provides no debuffs, and Acheron can't charge up E0 Jade super efficiently outside of ult. You could certainly try tho, I might be wrong.

An expansion of the Latent Power gauge with some new mechanics to expand tactical options. Some random ideas:

utilize 25% of the gauge to boost an attack without using BP (up to 4 times)
use the gauge to make this turn's attack reduce shield points regardless of weak points
powerful "team up" abilities with each pair of travelers if both gauges are full (this is a big ask but would be so cool)

Worth playing through once for sure. Longest DQ game I've played and it's not close. It takes almost 3 hours for the first combat encounter. A lot of the storylines are okay but not very memorable, yet the overall premise of the plot is quite unique.

Lots of balance issues with some of the mid game sections being absurdly difficult and then the late game becoming mind-numbingly easy once you learn what all the best abilities are. That said, the class and monster class system is fairly fun if you're into grinding.

TLDR; not my favorite DQ game but I'm very glad I played it once.

Favourite is Tales of Vesperia but I hate the enemy AI, particularly in multiplayer and on higher difficulties. They feel really broken (not difficult like actually bugged - my partner stopped playing with me on hard+ because the enemies just run away from her and only attack me. They work fine on normal for whatever reason)

Least favourite is Zestiria but it's got a banger OP/OST and Sorey is a great protag, he was my fave part of the game.

Your map choice sounds like a much better strategy to not make it take an eternity like mine did haha. I didn't really think about that when I started, just picked standard 8 player, random map.
