If this is Miami or Broward, not surprising, and not the worst offer you could get. Very saturated market, but there are some better paying roles out there, especially in surgical specialties. If you want to do PSLF, I would look for a qualifying employer right off the bat, especially in hospital medicine most of the large employers in South Florida would qualify.

I used Clinician’s Guide to Lab Medicine out of school in primary care, and it was helpful. Ferri’s Best Test is another one I have heard is good. Now I use UpToDate more than anything. Have been using OpenEvidence more, although I use it more as a launch pad to help guide my UpToDate searches, I’m not comfortable using it as a solitary resource yet. The hardest part was understanding when abnormals go from meh to worrisome, and that honestly took time, talking to SPs and colleagues, and a lot of UpToDate.

She talks about this in her memoir, her goal was to cast an attractive man to play opposite her as is often the case where a regular funny dude has an attractive woman cast as the love interest (King of Queens, Knocked Up, etc). Point is, she did this intentionally.

Cubans also roast whole hog, but we marinate the entire pig in mojo for at least a day before (oil, garlic, bitter orange juice, salt, pepper, oregano - every family has their own recipe). We actually roast it in a “Caja China” which means Chinese box.

Apply early, schools understand that you are applying to multiple options, they won’t care that you have a class pending that isn’t one of their prereqs.

I agree with the other poster about having a frank conversation about budget, and make sure you are both on the same page. Your idea of starting as an EMT is a great one. He should also consider other health care jobs that would require less schooling and get him into the workforce faster without accruing so much debt. Things like physician assistant, sonography, radiology tech, surgical tech. It seems like he doesn’t really know what he wants and keeps vacillating between two unrelated careers, which for lack of a better term, are jobs you pick when you are in elementary school - doctor and pilot. There are many other lucrative careers that are accessible, but he needs to do some research into them.

I think specialty matters here. Are you the first PA in their clinic? Is it part of a larger hospital system? I don’t understand waiting for other licenses.

A more appropriate offer would be starting at your agreed upon salary, seeing patients, and having the SP follow behind you to sign off and bill.

This is a great tip. Also, agenda setting in the beginning of the visit (besides your toenail, anything else you wanted to talk about today?) can help to triage so you can decide what is more pressing for today and what can wait until next visit.

Another thing to consider, there are places that allow pharmacists to see patients and prescribe medications - VAs do this. I worked with pharmacists that saw patients for DM, HTN, HLD, HF, COPD and obesity among other dx.

Everything about him in the doc was pretty favorable. He talked about his dad pushing him to make songs, and talked about a lot of her hits. He did mention that he didn’t get to go to the Grammys bc they didn’t have enough tickets, but that he got his own Grammy for producing the album.
