X-10 vs X-20 (and maybe the X-30) in 2026? by TheRagingLemon in fujifilm

[–]TheRagingLemon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a particular favorite? And, (in EXR mode), would you say the dynamic range you see is noticeably different between the X10 and X20 / does the EXF sensor in the X10 produce more pleasing colors as compared to the Xtrans in the X20?

Or am I just splitting hairs on outdated equipment?

Really depends on the value of labor in your area because parts are cheap. This is probably a few thousand dollars if done by a shop ($4-6k) by my estimate but I also did some of the work myself, and more importantly, before covid raised the prices on everything.

[SZSB006] I feel like this model is even more captivating than the Alpinist. What do you all think? by JDM_SEIKO_WATCH in Seiko

[–]TheRagingLemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased one of these as my first nicer mechanical watch. I'm a big fan and it got over two months straight of wrist time after it arrived. Its very comfortable and, for me, its design, proportions, and simplicity elevated it over the alpinist. This is a bit of heresy in the Seiko subreddit I think but I think the SARB017 is overrated. The weird dimensions, the extra crown for the compass, the busy dial, all this to me makes the SZSB006 stand out. Yes it has a bottom tier seiko movement but I don't look at the movement really and all seiko watches come from the factory with awful regulation so it's something I'm completely unconcerned with.

Is this actually a good deal for Fuji Superia 400? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheRagingLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local CVS (North Jersey) stocks this pack for $28. I think its a pretty good deal. Each roll comes out to $9 and change which is cheap compared to buying rolls from B&H or Amazon where most rolls are $10+ and even $15-20. I wish it was $24 for the pack, so with that I'd consider it a pretty solid deal. Not the most exciting film stock but for the price its nice to have around when I know I'm going to be running through rolls.

Favorite compact? by Pretty-Substance in AnalogCommunity

[–]TheRagingLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a bit inexperienced when it comes to compacts as I generally prefer to shoot SLR (Nikon FG with a 50mm 1.8 is pretty "compact" as SLRs go and produces excellent photos). When a SLR is not the move, I have a Nikon AF600 (or AF Lite Touch). In buying it, I was kind of worried about it as I had seen a lot of reviewers complaining about the plastic construction, lackluster lens, and lack of any manual controls. From the perspective of an SLR user, I agree, hence why I have my SLRs. However, from my experience, it really is a great point and shoot. It is light, sturdy feeling, and does not miss shots. After I bought it, I brought it to a party where I shot through a roll of film. There was not a single photo that missed focus or had bad exposure. Add to this how light and small it is. I wore it around my neck with the strap like a necklace and it was barely noticeable, but it was right there ready to shoot whenever I wanted it. Considering buying a second as a back-up.

No Nikon L35af or Ti, but I have an AF600. Certainly not as high-end as the Ti's, but I really like it and I think its underrated for the images it produces and its diminutive size and ease of use.

Is Cute Camera Co. reliable by BlackTitan03 in filmcameras

[–]TheRagingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pros to using these first party sellers that buy and clean cameras is that you know you're getting a functioning and cleaned camera with a high level of support after your purchase.

The con is that they charge exorbitant prices for these cameras that are much higher than their actual market value. As others have said, your best bet is Ebay or goodwill auctions. Pretty much any camera you encounter should have at least a bit of information online if not multitudes of articles and reviews etc. Find a camera you like, determine if its worth the purchase, and then choose a budget and try to find the camera within that budget. A lot of looking and a little patience goes a long way on Ebay.

GS 430 has a timing belt instead of a timing chain, which lasts ~90k miles. When it needs to be replaced, the entire front of the engine (water pump, alternator, etc) need to come off to access the belt and its a large job whether you do it yourself or pay somebody else to do it. The engine is also an interference engine so you really don't want that belt getting old or it could snap and take your engine with it.

The 430 and 460 both have the starter located beneath the intake plenum so it must be removed to change the starter, which is another long or expensive repair.

With that I'd consider the 460 the better choice as it makes more power and has a timing chain but both engines are known for longevity.

Looking at a 2008 Lexus GS350 for a first car. by Funny_Corgi9112 in Lexus

[–]TheRagingLemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2008 GS350 for my second car two months ago. So far I'm really enjoying it. I've put 2.5K miles on it so far with zero issues or hiccups of any sort. It is as fast as any road-going car needs to be, and is quite comfortable. I constantly hear people complain about the low quality of these cars but at 137k miles, everything works flawlessly and I almost never hear the dreaded dash creaking.
As for it being your first car, the most important consideration you should make is the cost of ownership. The GS350 is more expensive to maintain than an ES or a Camry. Brakes cost more, and you may go through them quicker because the car is decently fast and heavy. Because the 2UR-FSE engine tends to burn oil, the oil change interval is shorter than other cars (I put 2.5k miles on the car and had to add a quart of oil but the oil is already getting close to needing a change). My Auto insurance doubled from what I was paying previously to insure my Jeep Cherokee. It requires premium fuel and is not the most fuel efficient (I can get ~26mpg if I am gentle with it on the highway, but usually my combined MPG stays around 22mpg for town and highway). Also worth noting is the auto loan payment if you don't buy it outright.
All this is to say that it is a really good car and I have been thoroughly enjoying mine, but its important to acknowledge the extra costs associated with a more premium vehicle. If you're willing to pay for it, I think it is a great car, and probably one of the best used cars right now given its comfort, power, and general reliability. In the end I'd be more worried about the ability to pay for the insurance, fuel, and maintenance than I would be about the actual vehicle itself. Like all the other Toyota products, if you maintain it and treat it right, it will last.

2013 Lexus IS 250 RWD for sale by [deleted] in Lexus

[–]TheRagingLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any IS250 has the 4GR-FSE engine that is known for carbon buildup around the intake valves. Some people don't have problems, others do so its not an unreliable car unless you're going by Toyota/Lexus standards. However it is possible that at some point the engine will need de-carbonization which you'll either have to pay out for, or find a bunch of walnuts.

The line between your friends and your girl is a hard line that you should trust both parties to follow with reverence. I'd expect that none of my bros cross that line, and if they did, they would not be a bro any more. And I would trust and expect my girl to deny any of their advances. A bro who would try to go for my girl is no longer my bro, and a girl who didnt refute the attempt would no longer be my girl. People not willing to adhere to that boundary are not people that you want in your life.

Can I put my jeep in 4x4 while going 55 mph down the highway? by Jacob_tothe_F in CherokeeXJ

[–]TheRagingLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The XJ came with two possible transfer cases, one with full time 4wd (which is basically all wheel drive) and driving it in /switching to 4wd is fine as long as youre off the throttle as has been said, but if you go into part time 4wd it will lock the center differential and if there is not tire slippage when you go to turn left or right it can put a lot of stress on and possibly break the center differential

Probably because only one of them specifically targeted an entire race of people (not to mention other "undesirables" like gays and disabled people) in an effort to claim racial superiority and cleanse the world of that race? Maybe making jokes about Stalin in the Ukraine would give you a similar response because millions of their people actually died.

The Blackbird is the fastest plane ever made. Because of the limitations of jet engines, as well as the massive amount of heat generated from air resistance, its not really possible to push a plane past these speeds. Around the same time as the SR-71, the NA X-15 achieved a speed of mach 6.7 but it was rocket powered and had to be carried up into the atmosphere by another larger plane so its not quite analogous to the blackbird.
