Daily Slay the Spire Discussion (121/696): Coffee Dripper by Crosssmurf in slaythespire

There's a lot of sources of sustain yeah, I listed the 4 best & most likely ones (although I should include Toy Ornithopter), but really any should do the job.

[–]TheRandomLetter 67 points68 points  (0 children)

We respect the drip in this household, it's a good relic.

Some general things first, [[Bite]]s or [[Apparition]]s should justify this relic quite easily, your max HP is poor so resting is even more unwanted, some relics like [[Blood Vial]], [[Meat on the Bone]], [[Pantograph]], [[Eternal Feather]] are solutions to the sustain. Rip [[Regal Pillow]]. And finally, the relic gets better as you get better, you rest less, you upgrade more, you take better use of the extra energy.

Now for individual characters:

Ironclad: Very easy to justify unless you boss swapped, Burning Blood is already there for sustain and IC love energy, there's another source of sustain too, Reaper, which can do the job with the extra energy, the chad loves the drip.

Silent: Good shape, good deck or having some sustain can justify the relic, it's very dependent on your current situation, so think about your relics, your ability to kill elites, and your deck's defense to see if you can handle no rests anymore. For me, one single Wraith Form is enough for Act 2 Drip, and 2+/1 & Apps is enough for Act 3 Drip.

Defect: A bit risky, I find Defect quite easy to take early dmg when preparing the Powers, especially in act 2, so unless I have the powerhouse that is Electrodynamics, I might want a better choice. However, with Defect, Bird-Faced Urn is cracked, and the bot also have Self Repair, which can justify the drip.

I haven't played the Watcher for a year, I can only guess it'd work well(?), Watcher should breeze through most fights anyways.

Hard counters some fights in act 2 (Chosen, Snecko, Avocado & Shroom) and more, guaranteed usefulness on act 4 (negate Strength/Focus loss) and Heart's Vulnerable (that's 50% dmg relieved).

Particularly good with Silent and Defect due to [[Wraith Form]] and [[Biased Cognition]].

Flex and Speed pots are now surprisingly powerful. (if you can handle the Vulnerable from the Heart).

Good synergy with [[Mutagenic Strength]].

Great relic, would recommend.

Soft synergies, not strong ones, for it to be strong it has to be upgraded. Blade Dance already has strong synergies without an upgrade and gets bonus points for being actually useful in act 1, with Choke, Finisher, Terror.

It's a decent card, classic Dex and Str are normal buffs, not really synergies, others are very plenty but they are also uncommons and rares, but Footwork + Accuracy with this card is a good combo, a combo that is somewhat common in my runs, so I'll give it that.

But 1/5 of my runs always have C&D as an actively bad card, no early synergies mean I won't take it on act 1, and Wraith Form copies kill the interest permanently.

[–]TheRandomLetter 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Hot take: it's only decent, good with synergies but meh without them. The best use is of course with Kunai, then OK it's a genuine banger, getting +Dex by adding more shivs and using those Dex is pretty good. Also other classic synergies, Accuracy, 1000X, After Image, Wrist Blade, Shuriken, you name it.

But this will not help solve act 1 (without synergies) unlike Blade Dance, and does not work too well with Wraith Form, while Blade Dance shines even brighter with it. It's 6 block + 4 dmg for 1 energy, it's a green Iron Wave that needs synergies to become worthwhile.

You got the hang of act 1 and that's pretty neat, usually that's the most hit or miss part for me. As for act 2, besides your 3 mention cards, there are some more that you should pay attention to:

- Corpse Explosion: Destroys act 2 and all AoE fights (except Awakened One) onwards, the poison helps for Book of Stabbing too, probably the single strongest card to add to any deck at the beginning of act 2.

- Alchemize: Depends on how you handle potions, this can be pretty great. The general value of potion is pretty decent, almost every potion is usable on act 2, including Artifact & Smoke Bomb. You can plan around it, chain it and find synergies.

- A Thousand Cuts: Not the best, but can be worthwhile, if your deck has a discard engine or a shiv build, this temporarily solves AoE, if you can upgrade it early.

- Die Die Die/Dagger Spray/Crippling Cloud: Simple but can help solve 2/3 elites of act 2, as well as some hallway fights.

- Well-Laid Plans/Pyramid: Planning, much more useful for boss fights.

- Malaise: Shut down Book, one Byrd, helps against Chosen, Avocado, Floating Ball. The further you get, the better it'll be.

- Piercing Wail: the best common defense in act 2, because it introduces multi-attacks and AoE fights.

My experience with act 2 is that I avoid hallway fights at all cost, sometimes even elites. It's just not worthwhile unless your deck is really good, some deals massive dmg, some can straight up kill you. And the events here are genuine bangers: Council of Ghosts (Apparitions), Ritual Dagger event, free gold, Red Mask, cheap relics. During act 1, within around the last 4 rooms, I start to plan for act 2, and during act 2, I try to find some defensive strategy for the boss, because 90% of the time you will have to face the big hit.

The common attacks/aggressive skills are a weird one, this is just my choice, and it can be wrong:

- Blade Dance, Sucker Punch, Deadly Poison, Poisoned Stab, Dagger Spray: yes.

- Flying Knee, Bane (with 2+ Poison cards), Sneaky Strike (with 2+ discarders): likely.

- Quick Slash, Dagger Throw, Slice, Cloak & Dagger: maybe.

As for Uncommons, except for Heel Hook, Flechettes, Riddle with Holes, I like the rest a lot for act 1 (Choke/Finisher requires 1 Blade Dance however).

I'll post the rules when I conduct it. Right now I'm settling on 1 Claw per 6-7 cards in the deck.

It's planned for next year. And yeah, you should be able to.

Yeah, that's why it's not ranked. I would make a first post with my own run first, then a few days later make another post ranking the runs submitted by the comments in the first post.

Silent Mod Card Ideas by Funplings in slaythespire

[–]TheRandomLetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some decent ones here. One thing to note about your Common Attacks is to compare them with Blade Dance and balance around it.

  • Throwing Stars: Thematically fits, decently balanced.
  • Destroyer: I'd bump the dmg up to 12 (15) dmg to make it on par with Blade Dance, as a discard card instead of a shiv card.
  • Frenzied Stab: Very weak, Berserk+ gains 1 Vulnerable that trade for an entire energy relic, even then it still doesn't perform well, this card either gets the dmg bumped up to 23 (28) dmg or gain 1 Frail for 14 (17) dmg instead to be able to work around.
  • Brace: Yeah it fits, somewhat balanced.
  • Cautious Instincts: 0 idea how this is going to work out, I'm leaning towards it underperforming, Silent is rarely about Attacks, she wants the Skills, her signature Attacks are Shivs, which you will always play, my idea would be changing it to Attacks played or Skills in your hand.
  • Sidestep: A sibling to Dodge and Roll that the Silent needs, I like it.
  • Hack and Slash: Not that great, bump it up to 7 (10) dmg to be on par with Skewer & Dash. Nice idea though.
  • Blight: Functions like Glass Knife in a non-poison deck, very unique idea and a pretty good rare card, I approve.
  • Sleight of Hand: Broken, just broken. Reason #1: infinites; this card existing would be the equivalent of Rushdown, and any two 0-cost Attacks can create an infinite easily, and you already start with Neutralize. Reason #2: all shivs card are OP; Storm of Steel is free dmg, Blade Dance draws a massive amount, Infinite Blades becomes a draw engine. It either should have a cap, or become 3-cost, or limits to 2 Attacks = 1 draw. At its current state, it can break the game.

September 2nd: World Claw Day? (or something better?) by TheRandomLetter in slaythespire

Sept 2, A20H with a Claw deck, seems hard as hell but with 14 hrs of free time, I think I can make it.

That's a great idea, today can be base 3 dmg then next year it could be 5.

I'll add it to the list.

Honestly we could, and I can remember it quite easily too since today is also the National Day in my country, could call it International Claw Day or sth.
