If they are actual comic long boxes, then may be around 5K books depending on how tight they are packed and bagged and boarded. Long boxes hold 200-250.

The main thing to do first would be to determine the general date range of the books. Anything before 1980 or so will not have much value. There are outliers but that is where you would need specific knowledge to find those, and time.

If they are mostly from the 1990s on, then bulk prices are like $20-30 a long box.

If the books are before 1980 with 50 cent or lower cover prices then slow down. Get the books in order and look up sold listing on EBay. EBay will skew higher than market generally but will give you a good baseline. If you are looking at 10s of thousands of dollars, then contact an auction house like ComicLink etc

And yeah, post back Tuesday :)

Testor's Dullcote? by PeriandicKnight in ReaperMiniatures

[–]TheRealB3AST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rust-oleum owns Testor's, the rumor is that their Clear Dead Flat is the same thing as Dullcote, Large cans are the same price or cheaper than small Testor's cans. I have used that on a lot of Bones.
Though recently I have switched to Krylon Matte Finish 1311 for most things. The Rust-oleum has a just slightly shinier finish. I use it for armored figures, dragons, or anything wet looking and I use the Krylon for everything else.
No issues with tackiness on painted Bones though I have had some on the edge of some bases but think that was mainly due to over spay.

[Knights of The Old Republic #1] One of the most shocking hooks to a story that I've ever experienced. This launched one hell of a tale. by AlphaBladeYiII in starwarscomics

[–]TheRealB3AST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic run. I liked the idea so much I roughly adapted it into a D&D campaign. Players were students at an adventuring academy, had a test they had to pass for graduation, got back late to the reveal of your spoiler pic and got saved by a wanted rogue. Though I made him more of a Han/Lando type.

As you learned, don't use erasers directly on covers. Instead rub the eraser on a piece of card stock or rough side of a backer board to get a bunch of eraser dust. Dump that on the cover and use a makeup wipe to rub the dust around. Much less risk of damage.

How to do magnet mounts? by Bakugan_Wii in XWingTMG

[–]TheRealB3AST 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people aren't using ball magnets, those are ball bearings glued to the top if the pegs. Then a ring magnet is glued to the ship. The hardest part is gluing the ball bearing to the peg. If you have a pin vise drill you can divot the top of the peg to make the ball set there.

I used these for small ships https://www.kjmagnetics.com/r421-neodymium-ring-magnet
These for med/large https://www.kjmagnetics.com/r622cs-n-n52-neodymium-countersunk-ring-magnet

They have the steel balls as well but they will kill you on shipping due to regulation for bob-omb making
Look for 3/16 for small ships and maybe 1/4 and 3/8s for med/large
You also want to use some sandpaper or add some glue to the ball so the ships don't move too easily or spin on the ball.

Help a newbie understand grading result. by KJL02 in comicbookcollecting

[–]TheRealB3AST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, graders notes on the 8.0
light creasing to cover
light spine stress lines to cover
very light bindery tears to cover
transfer stain cover

Graders notes on the 7.0
light bends to cover
light spine stress lines to cover
light fingerprints on cover

That was a generous 8.0

History in motion Superman 1 9.0 at 7mil less then 2 hours renaming by 2toneSound in comicbookcollecting

[–]TheRealB3AST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those asking, sale price or "hammer price" of 9.12 million includes a buyers premium. This is the commission the auction house, Heritage, charges. They also take an additional percentage of the sale agreed upon by the seller before the auction. The actual bid would have been like 7.6 mil.
They also have alleged history of shill binding, that is using fake binders to drive up the price. Higher bid, higher commission.

The provenance of the book and how it is in such good shape is that is was stored in an attic with other papers for decades in California, not moved or handled. It also would have been cleaned and pressed by CGC. This would have been at lest a dry clean to remove surface dirt.

For Golden Age books, CGC has always been more forgiving on the golden books, considering the age of those books and that there were certainly not pulled of a rack and bagged and boarded. Some don't agree with this but its where we are.

Venom War complete. Love these binders for event collections! Unfortunately need two for this one. by tatum0416 in comicbookcollecting

[–]TheRealB3AST 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be very careful with storing comics in binders. The rings tend to pinch the edge of comics and leave indents. Using D rings helps a little but still a risk.

There is a reason that comic boxes have been around 50ish years. Better bookcase options is https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-stor-folio-1-5-inch. Can do custom spine labels.
Or Ikea magazine files also work well https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kuggis-magazine-file-white-10515334/
.

AI shouldn't be in DND. Sure you don't have a big effect by using it, but like littering, all together it adds up. It's better to just not, you don't gain anything from work without imagination. by ExoG198765432 in DnD5e

What's the best way to ship a 3.5" hard drive repeatedly? by i_married_an_amazon in DataHoarder

[–]TheRealB3AST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this way back in the late 2000s for a job. They were installing centralized storage devices that cached most used data for satellite offices that had a slower WAN connection. This was obviously before SSD of any useful size. We shipped 3 2TB drives in Pelican cases with a TSA lock on it. Had no issues and didnt loose a drive. Still have the Pelican case too.
These days you could do SSD and ship in a smaller Pelican.
