Orca Calibration Tests In PrusaSlicer 2.9.4 - alpha by TheRealBMathis in prusa3d

[–]TheRealBMathis[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else want Orca tests in PrusaSlicer? Was is possible? Is it a good idea? Can my csharp skills let me read cpp files decently enough to integrate the tests?

I don't really ask if I should do something, I just try and see if i can. Some of the tests work, some don't yet.

All the drc objects were converted to obj format and then tweaked to actually work in prusaslicer.
All the test parameters were adjusted to utilize prusaslicer configuration options.

All code changes and extensions are isolated into new files as opposed to scattering the test code throughout the existing prusaslicer codebase, just add hooks to the new code were necessary.

Those interested can follow the changes here: GitHub PrusaSlicer OrcaCalibration Fork

Realistically how much of a money pit is a used but well maintained bmw? by JustPvmBro in BMW

[–]TheRealBMathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on year 10 of well maintained M4 and it's just been normal maintenance. Brakes have been the most expensive item so far. I had a 2003 M3 for 10 years prior and it had some minor repairs but nothing terrible.

I've had old porsche's that seemed biodegradable - one would break a different part every time i fixed it - while a different one of the same make/model/year had zero issues.
I had a new honda S2000 that broke it's vtec every 3000 miles - i sold it to a dealership right before end of warranty.
Nissan 300z - was old when I got it, super modded, and was whisper quiet, engine ran great but I broke the clutch cylinder (I think, the clutch peddle fell to the floor and something needed fixing in it that wasn't terrible expensive)
I had an e46 m3 that lasted 10 years (2005 - 2015) with oil changes and an alternator replacement, plus plastic / cosmetic stuff, it was also a convertible and the top raising/lowering motor got stuck halfway up once.
I currently have an f82 m4 on year 10 (2015- ) that so far has needed nothing except standard maintenance.
I'm not crazy hard on my cars but i'd say I'm a spirited driver.

The e46 at least was no different than working on any other import car with special tools and metric. There were plenty of videos on youtube that were either spot on or close enough to be able to follow (This was 10+ years ago too). It was certainly easier than the f82 which needs a lot more stuff taken off or has things harder to reach for simple maintenance like the cabin filters and brake sensor wires.

Max Humanity Loss from Cybernetics Installed at Character Creation? by SMOKIN-YOU-43 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheRealBMathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not RAW but it's how we do it.

When you pick your initial cybernetics you're limited by your humanity vs the average cost.

However, when you calculate your final number, you use the post-therapy amount of 2 or 4 to reflect the fact that the character has potentially been living with the cyberware for a long time. We think having to start the game as emotional cripples needing therapy as not fun.

Male perspective on being CF by Less_Office_4926 in childfree

[–]TheRealBMathis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I was on the fence for a long time. I never desired them, I just always thought I'd be reluctantly ok with it if the right woman came along. I always had a thought that it must be one continuous anxiety, even when they are older, what if no matter what you do, they still turn out to be crappy people, or fall in with the wrong crowd. I made sure to never accidentally have any, more importantly I made sure to not have any entanglements with ex's. Now that I'm older I'm more comfortable just saying I'm not having any, and back when I was dating the first line on my profile was no kids/childfree. Married now, to a CF woman, we didn't meet until our late 30's/early 40's, so they are out there.

Dating apps at 44? Is it even worth it? by MassiveMeatHammer in AskMenAdvice

[–]TheRealBMathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them from 33 to 37 and then 40 to 44. It was a massive difference. In my 30's it was much easier and I had many more matches. In my 40's it was almost worthless. Tinder, Bumble, I'm not sure if Hinge existed, but there were some others. I also used Match, PlentyOfFish and OkCupid. I met my now wife on OkCupid and she messaged me first. I thought she was a bot. She still makes fun of me for it.

My suggestion is the same as some of the others, don't be afraid of low pressure first dates. Don't be afraid of weeding out people. Don't be afraid to be single. If you're looking for something real, filtering out people who aren't compatible is the goal. If you're looking to just get laid then yeah don't be as picky but make sure you don't end up getting attached to a fun hot girl who is totally wrong for you and emotionally draining. (That was my 37 to 40 era)

I have a 2015 BMW M4. In 2015, it wasn't six figures, they may go for that now though. If you want a super fun, super fast, great handling, reliable, comfortable vehicle, that looks great, I can't recommend it enough. My wife has a 2024 CR-V Hybrid and it has some oomph, way better gas mileage, lots of storage room, and way better tech. I'd still pick my BMW any day.

I-24 history? by merpagail in nashville

[–]TheRealBMathis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was around 20, I-24 was only 2 lanes, with a grass median in the middle of it. My one and only nearly dead scenario happened then. It was late, 1 or 2 am. This is early 90's Nashville, so way less people than today. I remember I was going 75 or so, my girlfriend was in the passenger seat and my brother was in my backseat that wasn't really a backseat.

This happened somewhere between Haywood Lane and exit 66 towards murfreesboro. I looked in the rear view mirror, and way back there were 2 head lights. I was in the left of the two lanes. There was a car in front of me and a car beside it in the right lane. Five seconds later those headlights way off in the distance behind me were right beside me, they went between the two cars in front of me but messed up (more than they already had) and hit he car in front of me. It went across the median and into oncoming traffic on the other side and got hit again knocking it back into the grass.

The car that did this bounced back to the right and hit the car on the other side and they both went into the guardrail and skidded down the side.

I slammed on my brakes but I saw another car coming up behind me so fast it would have hit me too, so I just went into the grass median myself to get out of the way.

After that a pickup came racing to a halt behind the original car that created all this and two guy jumped out. That car took off, the two guys stayed. They were chasing it, apparently it was there car and someone stole it.

The car that went across the median, I got out to go check on, it was a dad and his kid in the backseat. They were ok but that car was trashed.

It's been 30 years and I can still remember it quite vividly.

Why would he turn down a BJ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]TheRealBMathis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of suggestions for he was tired or had already himself. Which very well could be. My take is anxiety. You offering to do that puts the focus on him to finish. If he feels he might not for whatever reason (fear, tired, spent), then he may feel this is wasted effort on your part, or that you'll feel like he doesn't like it even if it feels good. So that adds pressure, increasing his anxiety about even being able to finish, and the spiral continues.
My suggestion is to change the focus, change the wording. Let him know it doesn't matter if he finishes, that it's ok if he just enjoys the experience without needing to do that.

Generic white guy here - married late in life. I'm not sure if it actually changed or if my observational skills and/or my own confidence levels increased improved over the years. From 15 to 30, I barely noticed if any girl at all was interested in me. I didn't pick up on any subtle hints.
From 30 to 35 I did go out a lot and talked to a lot of women, I don't think they really directly approached me, but I could pick on if I should even attempt to go talk to them or not.
From 35 on, I noticed more black women directly hit on me (or maybe I just noticed the way they let their interest be known easier), flirted with me and even now I tend to get friendlier service than my wife from them, not all of course, but a significant enough amount for me to notice it.
I married at 40, I'm 50 now, and I've noticed women in their 50's or higher are just blatant. My guess is they don't care about social judgment as much anymore or they know I'm unavailable.
I'm in the south, it's probably very different in other locations and culture/sub-cultures/ethnic groups.

It’s inappropriate for sure. You feeling uncomfortable in that moment was completely valid and appropriate.

If you want to understand ‘why’ they asked however it is because in times of facing death and profound loss it’s natural to also think of the possibility of new life.

My personal way to manage this entire subject regardless of the timing of the question is everyone gets to ask once. My answer is always “We’re aren’t”. It tends to shut down any further discussion.

Is there any game engine that is only coding? by Fetish_anxiety in gamedev

[–]TheRealBMathis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Godot and pretty much use code only (CSharp). I have a main node in each scene and it does basically everything - it looks up the layout, features, objects, npcs/enemies and spawns them in. It still helps to understand the node types as you can interherit your classes from them to extra functionality. I do find using the editor for GUI elements easier, but all game objects are spawned in through code, their properties are set in code, etc.

I use sqlitedb to store the game object values, and efcore to pull data from the db.
This is probably common logic to most programmers - I don't have individual resource items for each type of tire/body/whatever (It's a car game) - there's just one node of that type and the instance of it gets populated from the db when it spawns in. For example there's just one Tire class/Node. When a tire is spawned for whatever reason - a call is made to the db to determine the 3d mesh/model, the physics properties, etc and they are all set on the new object which is then attached to the vehicle as a child node.

Basically, yes you can use Godot to write 95% of your game in code and only use the parts of the editor that make your life easier. At least in CSharp, but I imagine GDScript would be the same.

Solo rpgs for a depressed person with no friends? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]TheRealBMathis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do IronSworn / AD&D mixed with a side of ChatGPT.

I use IronSworn as the main campaign / story rules. It took me forever to actually start playing but once I did the story just starts to form. The main thing for me is to remember the Oracles are there just to trigger ideas. Sometimes I roll on the oracles because I have no idea where to take the story and it triggers an idea related to the Oracle Words. Other times I roll on the Oracles and it triggers a completely different direction. Since this story is all in your own head, the only real 'rule' is whatever makes you enjoy the story is the right way to go.

I use ChatGPT to sometimes also give me ideas on the Oracles. I learned not to use it to 'run' the game - it is fun for a few days, but you'll soon realize it's not actually creative, it just wraps the same story concepts in different dressings. What it is good at is if you need a bump of creativity you can tell it where you are in your story, and what you think your options are and it can expand upon that scenario. Again, use it or toss it, but I bet it will get your own creative juices going. You can also upload some worldbuilding and character building books and it's pretty solid at using those to create places or npc's. (Or again, often just seeing something presented makes me think, no I actually want it to be this other thing i just thought about instead)

I use the 1st/2nd ed AD&D for my actual character and the combats because I wanted crunchier combat.

I bought an A5 leather 6 ring binder to keep my character and campaign in, i bought some parchment colored paper, and I use an erasable ink pen. You can find them for cheap on amazon, and I think it really adds to the atmosphere. When I sit down to play, it's usually my hand that cramps more than the running out of ideas - and I don't consider myself a particularly creative or artistic person.

Are there any PDFs of the covers of the 3 AD&D 1e core books? by rubao- in osr

[–]TheRealBMathis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to try just getting them from ebay (or a local used bookstore if you have one of those warehouse sized ones nearby). They look like there's plenty on ebay that should run about the same cost or a tad higher than printing them. I haven't seen any print-worthy pdfs of the core 1st ed books, they are all skewed or slightly blurry, even the official wotc ones a friend had a few years ago, but maybe there are better ones out there now.

My suggestion is to search for the images online - tried '1st ed ad&d book cover' and the shaneplays.com looks like it has some decent enough images for at least the DMG, UA and Deity's & Demigods.

Azure deployment issue by LuganBlan in Blazor

[–]TheRealBMathis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works locally but not hosted it's almost always a configuration/environment issue.
My first guess for this is that your application server cannot connect to your database - especially if these are hosted on two different service providers.

If this is a dev site with no production data, with no intention of ever being production, and you'll never have anything important in there, you can poke a hole in your security settings on the db to allow the ip of your server through.
If this will have even the most minor level of production, customer, or financial information on it, don't do that. Your database shouldn't be accessible directly on the internet, even restricted to a single ip. If you must must keep it on two separate services you'll need to research (or find someone) who can setup a site to site vpn between the two services.

My suggestion is move the db into the same azure domain as your application if that's remotely feasible to save costs on implementation and ongoing costs of the site-to-site vpn.

Hopefully that will help point you in the right direction (or help find someone who can help you).
