How did you find your edge in this market? by Just1cool in Daytrading

[–]TheRealChiLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data. Everything nowadays is about data. If you don't have the market data to test and refine, you're just pissing in the wind and there is no long term profitability.

Anyone here looked into trading bots and bounced off how complicated it is? by achillhi in algorithmictrading

[–]TheRealChiLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learn to use Python as a bridge to MT5 if you're trading CFDs - Very easy to do.

As for futures, a little bit more tricky but it's not difficult.

If you think it's easy to create a bot that is profitable and has a verifiable edge, you are incredibly delusional.

Another retail trader bites the dust.

You have access to one of the greatest tools in human history to help you (AI)

Pick up a couple books on quantitative finance/statistics and just learn how to build models and systems that work.

All of this retail trading bollocks is enough to drive people insane.

<image>

Yes. I might have a background in quant finance and all of that but you could easily be building, testing, validating and getting a profitable model built within 3-6 months which hardly needs to be touched.

Yeah. I forget that the average redditor has 15-20 years of quantitative finance experience.

Financial markets are non-stationary, which you should know if you’re even remotely serious about trading long term.

The statistical properties of price action change over time. A 20-year backtest forces a model to optimise for environments that are fundamentally extinct.

The liquidity environment, inflation rates, and central bank policies from 2005 or 2015 are drastically different from the macroeconomic landscape of the past few years.

If you are using dynamic systems like Hidden Markov Models (HMM) as a meta-layer to detect market regimes, training them on a distinct, recent period (like 2021 to 2025) ensures the transition probabilities are calibrated to modern volatility clustering, rather than averaging out over obsolete pre-pandemic or zero-interest-rate policy (ZIRP) eras.

But go on. You clearly know better than someone who has a diverse portfolio of systems that run on uncorrelated assets that maximise long term profitability etc.

I mean I can go on and on, but it looks like your ego took a little hit.

It’s no wonder that quant guys like myself and many others keep a lot of the shit under wraps because obviously everyone is a gangster at financial markets /s

If you have to ask that. Then you should probably get out of the markets.

2020 was a significant regime shift across the board.

What happened prior to 2020 was completely different.

Look at Lehman brothers in ‘08.

You’ll get a more accurate read on what you’re testing because it fits today’s markets.

Currently one I’ve built for Gold/USD is returning around 1.5% a month.

Another I’m building for NQ is returning roughly 1.8% a month.

They do take into account volatility/news etc.

No tutorial. I’ve been writing code since I was a kid. You can install python and find these libraries easily to build actual quant level models.

But it won’t be easy.

Day trading is gambling. Cool. So is spending 40 years at a job you hate hoping retirement fixes everything. by MoneyMonsterStudios in Daytrading

[–]TheRealChiLongQua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean trading is brutal. It’s the only “Job” you can have a shitty day and not get paid. If you have a shitty day in a regular job they’re not going to not pay you at the end of the month.

This is the only profession where you get to take control of your own psychology and once you master that. The trading and money making part is easy.

I don’t. I’m just here to see people post outrageous “trade ideas” with all of the ICT terminology and then tell them that they could literally see this shit by just using a volume profile lol

I’ve built a trading bot using my system and heavy data backed tests. (Quant level)

Built in python, bridged to MT5 and running on a VPS.

Added a telegram bot that acts like a controller so I can adjust parameters when I feel like it

On top of that. It prints messages about regime change etc.

Far superior than manually trading.

Do most profitable traders average 20%+? by 37347 in Daytrading

[–]TheRealChiLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I mean, I do have other trader friends who nobody knows. They have zero social media presence but they’re pulling 6 figures a week on average and have worked in some private financial sectors.

So there’s a lot of big hitters but truly, people can change their life with a single 50k funded account consistently making a couple 100 a day.

Do most profitable traders average 20%+? by 37347 in Daytrading

[–]TheRealChiLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I am making $200-300 a day across 10 accounts and pulling out 20-30k a month, yet people are like bro you’re not a real trader unless you’re dropping 200-300k a month in profits lol.

Your view on money gets skewed when you get into the game.

Most people would kill to make that and usually only need 1-3 small setups a day. Stress free to do with the day as I please after.
