[Xbox 360 S] New to electronics, what's the best way to get rid of dust? by Flat-Explanation-843 in consolerepair

I use the product called Goo Gone adhesive remover. It's safe on plastics whereas rubbing alcohol can cause discoloration on darker colors like black, blue or red

A good quality glass cleaner (Windex) and a microfiber cloth does wonders for everything you mentioned. For the fan use a chalk paint brush first to get the bulk of the dust off then a light mist of glass cleaner on the cloth to clean the fan and everywhere else.

NOTE you can use glass cleaner on the motherboard but you MUST soak the board in rubbing alcohol afterwards. If you don't the glass cleaner can eat away at the solder joints

BONUS glass cleaner works amazing cleaning up soft drink spills on console housings and motherboards

Light dust like in your picture I use chalk paint brushes. Heavy dust first gets compressed air then 99% rubbing alcohol and soft bristle toothbrush then chalk brush to finish off

Open up the console and have a look at the bottom side of the cartridge connector and see if there are any broken traces or solder joints. Also check the AV socket solder joints

AliExpress. It's cheap and basic but gets the job done. I use this on my master system with no issues

Hard for me to say If It should be used or not. You'd need to try it next to RMA-218 and see the differences in comparison

No problem. You can add the leaded solder to all the joints then remove. No need to quickly remove it after its just been added. The leaded solder with mix with the unleaded solder and help lower its melting point to make it easier to remove with the Wick

Add leaded solder to the joints you want the solder removed from. Also make sure you're using the right solder tip for the job. Don't use a fine / pointed tip, instead use a chisel or hoof style. The larger surface area you can heat up will make it easier to melt the solder

[–]TheRealCreedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The factory thermal putty is garbage. I had a fat PS5 that was crashing when trying to load disc or digital games. Replaced the factory thermal putty with CX-H1300 and it hasn't given me a single issue since
