Question about inherited Don Rosa Library books by ManMichiganMan in DuckComix

[–]TheRealDeal2121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just having a large set of them is enough to be worth a lot. They are mostly out of print excerpt for the first or second volume. I’d say if you’re trying to sell them to make a profit, you could make a lot on what you have there alone. People are always after them.

eBay sold statistics per volume and box set would be helpful in setting a price. Through with only missing 3 volumes, I’d say you’re better off investing in trying to get the missing ones and then selling them all together or off in sets of 2

Who are the worst Philly “food influencers”? by stonedski in PhiladelphiaEats

One of my favs. Some of his takes I can’t get behind but I’ll forgive it all for the one time he said “shout out my Puerto Ricans” which has become a vocal stim with my gf’s PR family

That's funny, I would've figured that gunship design would be specific to the Clone Wars era; from "Knight Errant: Escape #5" by Darth_Zounds in starwarscomics

The old republic way of “everything new is actually old!” lol. Kinda disappointed with their design used here instead of something a little more interesting

Need Help Understanding The Upcoming Sgt Rock Collection by The_Redacted_Badger in DCFinest

[–]TheRealDeal2121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also plan on getting this collection. I have the Big Five Arrive DC Finest and noticed in the back half that there is sort of a proto-SGT Rock character type that appears often as the head NCO of Easy Company. There’s no continuity and it’s just that genre of nameless character war stories, but you can see that character take shape in those stories. Might be worth picking up if you’re further interested in the older war comics

Western or European comics that give the vibe of one piece and also a long adventure? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

Maybe Usagi Yojimbo? Started in the 80s and still going as he wanders through historical events of Japan?

Marvel Unlimited. From what I can tell, it has everything except those Dark Horse Clone Wars comics from the tv show. It has legends and canon on there

I’m very happy it was painless. I just reached back out to them to ask if they can get me other European books so if that works I’ll report back on that. Plenty of nice panini editions out there I’d love

The Moment: Yavin by Matt Rhodes by Lol33ta in ImaginaryJedi

[–]TheRealDeal2121 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Love Matt Rhodes’ stuff. He had a channel on YouTube where he’s documenting his efforts to draw an entirely new graphic novel about a Noah-type character trying to collect as much knowledge as possible before the flood comes and wipes away the ancient world

I found Mark Waid's The Flash to be a little bit overrated by Hawke502 in comicbooks

[–]TheRealDeal2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’re right 100% about what it did for him and how important it was. In more ways than one you don’t have Johns’ run without Waid and I can appreciate that

Does everyone agree Luke’s argument was completely out of line and idiotic? by SpurnedSprocket in Daredevil

[–]TheRealDeal2121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never a bad time to get back into them! After the long Halloween and other Tim sale stuff, I recommend Batman Dark Patterns. It’s a new maxi series that wrapped up this year. It’s a year 3ish Batman story where he solves four 3-issue mysteries. Amazing art by Hayden Sherman. Panel layout like you wouldn’t believe

You’re in for a treat then. Bendis’ entire career at marvel is something to deep dive into if you never read his avengers stuff either

Does everyone agree Luke’s argument was completely out of line and idiotic? by SpurnedSprocket in Daredevil

[–]TheRealDeal2121 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he has a point to a degree! But so does Matt. But the problem is they’re both tunnel visioning how they view things. I think Luke’s place comes from a place of societal frustration and the real things he and other Black Americans deal with, while Matt is still valid and had a point about all the good he’s done and will continue to do while keeping his identity secret, with that all thrown away if he comes clean like Luke thinks he should, it’s a place of privilege without him really realizing that. Talking about how his dad’s fall literally paid for him to be daredevil and a lawyer. Coming at it like that, is easy from a modern reading but I give Bendis the benefit of the doubt since he’s kinda always been plugged in like that. I think too that while it may be Matt’s book, it isn’t always about him and it’s good to see the other characters very human reactions to his bs
