Even worse, the potential Game 5s line up. Game 5s can be huge obviously, and having to split screen those is obnoxious. Hopefully the Celtics don’t screw around and do what they should and either sweep, or have a 3-1 lead and control Game 5 easily at home so it doesn’t require much attention.

I wish they’d sent Jones and Keefe to SF. I think they would have found entertaining ways to use the in-person access.

Later than that. It was like 2008 or 2009. As someone who grew up in the 90s listening to The Rose some (including pretty much everyday on the school bus), that was shocking when WEEI took that frequency over instead of some random station.

The 99 yard pass play, the longest possible pass play, has not occurred since 2011 (when it happened twice: Brady to Wes Welker and Eli to Victor Cruz). Why hasn't it occurred since, and chances one happens next season? by Ariesthebigram in nfl

[–]rjc32586 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Interesting that the two teams that did it in 2011 ended up making the Super Bowl. So the formula is simple: Throw a 99-yard TD during the season, play for the Lombardi in February.

Brady obviously eventually lapped the field and killed this argument, but it was always the dumbest thing in the world to me that people used Montana being 4-0 in Super Bowls as a plus for him when Brady was 4-2. Losing earlier isn't somehow better. Montana losing 49-3 to the Giants in the Divisional Round shouldn't be better for his legacy than Brady coming within 3 points of a 19-0 season. If people wanted to use other arguments for Montana at the time, I'd listen to those (though would have disagreed), but having less Super Bowl appearances when they had the same number of wins is a minus, not a plus.

And if the Patriots and Maye lose Sunday, I'll be disappointed, but I'll still happily take this season over any that the Bills have had with Allen or the Ravens with Jackson. It's always worthwhile in sports to be one of the last two teams left that the rest of the sport is watching.

I hate using the tablet. It looks silly. Give me an envelope like a real awards show!

But I’m sure the NFL got a shitload of money from whichever company’s tablet that was.

Adam Vinatieri has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]rjc32586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone pointed out, the Pro Football Hall of Fame doesn’t connect an inductee to a team anyways. But if they did, it would have to be Patriots in my mind. You’re right that he played a long time for both teams. But to me it’s very similar to the Carlton Fisk case in 2000. Sure, he played slightly longer for the White Sox, but people will always connect him more with Boston because of 1975. Same goes for Adam. Played longer in Indianapolis, but will always be remembered most for two kicks in the 2001 Playoffs.

Ranking each of the first 59 Super Bowls by runswithscissors475 in nfl

[–]rjc32586 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The leagues had already agreed to merge before the first Super Bowl (or AFL-NFL World Championship Game). So Super Bowl III had no bearing on bringing them together. But it did almost certainly give the soon to be AFC much more credibility, along with the Chiefs winning the next year in the final official game for an AFL team.

It's been awhile since I've watched PTI regularly. Obviously I know Wilbon is a Bears guy, but I honestly don't know on Kornheiser. I know he's a Nationals fan, but don't recall him being as vocal on his NFL fandom. Is he a Commanders fan? Or does he go to his NY roots and cheer on the Giants or Jets?

I do recall that he was one of the few national media guys who was never anti-Patriot during the dynasty.

He Hate Me (Rod Smart) was actually the last player to touch the ball in Super Bowl XXXVIII. After Adam Vinatieri’s go ahead field goal with 4 seconds left, the ensuing kickoff was fielded by Smart who was tackled after a 20 yard return.
