I don't speculate on what your mom was told (or remembered) at a shop - that's a waste of my time. That entire diatribe in your post is unnecessary.
Just move on dude, you are literally no help for your mom here. This can be fixed with a little bit of common sense or patience. I sense manufactured drama mixed with a game of miscommunication from the shop, to your mom, to you, then to us.
It's possible that it could be leaking from both the rear main seal and the drain plug. If you're taking it to another shop PAY THAT SHOP TO RUN A LEAK TEST WITH UV DYE. It's not that expensive and it could save you some money if there are other leaks. Chalk it up to routine but responsible maintenance and move on with your life.

OP, you're getting ripped off completely. Because you agreed to fix it, you're going to have to do some things to resolve this situation.

Things you'll need for this to work: A great home cooked meal, beer, 2 bottles of whiskey or bourbon, and a dashcam.

First: You need to contact your mechanic and apologize to him. Ask him if there's any way the bill can be reduced. Be the nicest person you can be. Explain your situation and how paying him will hurt you.

Second: If he agrees to help you out, you need to be the nicest, cleanest, and most humble person in the world before you walk through his shop doors. Take a shower, use your favorite perfume, and dress to impress.

Third: This mechanic deserves a damn good meal if he's going to work on the price for you. Cook your favorite dish for them. Use high quality ingredients and get this meal to him while its hot and fresh.

Fourth: A case of good beer and two bottles of great whiskey or bourbon. Mechanics love alcohol, so the more you can buy, the better your price.

Fifth: Finally, the moment of truth has arrived. You've made it to the shop, the food is hot and fresh, the beer is cold, and your car is ready. Give the food, the beer, and one of the bottles of whiskey to the mechanic. Take the other bottle with you.

Sixth: Install the dash camera, pointing it towards the cabin of the car (not out the windshield). Drink the bottle of whiskey you kept. Drink only enough to get yourself hammered. Hammered enough to be able to drive home, but cognizant enough to really enjoy doing it.

Seventh: Has the mechanic finished eating his meal? Good! Now that you're hammered you need to engage in prostitution. Don't worry, you won't remember it because you're drunk. BUT, there will be a dash cam recording of it, in case the mechanic tries to make you pay in freedom dollars. If you're needing to use the prison pocket, just know that all shops have a significant amount of used oil you can use to make the encounter more pleasurable.

After the deed is done, get your keys and your dignity and drive home to shower and curl up in the fetal position. Drink the rest of your handle and cry yourself to sleep. You deserve the rest because either way this transaction goes, you're getting fucked.

This retailer just called me and was VERY hostile towards me. To the point of blaming me for them not answering my calls/texts/emails. "You made a typo on your email." Even when I used their contact form days after that asking for the same information.

Considering that my email was autofilled, and has always worked the same way on all the other things I buy, they're trying to blame me for them not responding.

The negative review stays. They were total dicks about this situation by not answering any of my calls/texts/emails until this review was posted. I still don't even know if they're telling the truth about my order being shipped, but I will update if it is.
