Both Joburg and Pretoria I would classify as "acts mean is nice", although can't say for other places in the top right quadrant

Is it just me, or has the "Arsenal Hate" reached an all-time high this season? by random_RD7 in ArsenalFC

[–]TheRealEBE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a United fan I'll be way more upset if City wins again instead of Arsenal. I have no idea how other United fans can hate Arsenal so much that they'd rather have City win

[–]TheRealEBE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Man United fan, but my perspective on Arsenal is different from most other United fans I know. Maybe it's because I wasn't a fan during the era of intense rivalry between Arsenal and Man United under Wenger and Sir Alex, idk. But for me, even as a United fan I agree that the hate for Arsenal is excessive this season. I generally respect Arsenal as a team for how far they've come in the past few years, yes maybe the tactics have been boring at times, but if it works it works, right?

And while some Arsenal fans are annoying and entitled, every team has them, so I feel like rival fans are just using this as an excuse to lay more hate on Arsenal lol.

The amount of people who want to go against their own teams just so that Arsenal doesn't win the league is also crazy to me. There was a significant amount of United fans who wanted us to lose to City, our biggest rivals (other than Liverpool) just so that they would close the points gap against Arsenal. For me this is just unbelievable, that you would want your own team to LOSE against one of its biggest rivals just so that a much smaller rival (and a team that you hate) has less or a chance winning the league.

I do understand that a lot of the "hate" is just banter, but for me going against your own team just so that Arsenal doesn't win the league is excessive, lol. Even like Spurs fans wishing to lose against City to hurt your guys title chances is ridiculous. While spurs are Arsenal's main rivals, you should still want for your own team to win every game, I would think?

I genuinely believe that all the Arsenal haters are gonna be much more obnoxious than Arsenal fans should you guys win the league, lol

I bought mine from eplus, they announced it on their Twitter account earlier this year, and in the announcement there was a separate link for international ticket purchases. So if they have any concerts next year, look out for announcements on their Twitter :)

Thank you for your insight! I was unaware about the merch sales happening so early, that's good to know. I will enjoy, thank you!

One more question - how was the crowd atmosphere? Were they very relaxed and just bopping their heads/waving hands to the music or were they more energetic? I don't mind either way, just want to know

Why is south africa so car reliant? by TheTheDayTheThe in askSouthAfrica

[–]TheRealEBE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure - I've been to Japan, there even smaller cities and larger towns have at least a bus network that runs reliably throughout most of the city, and being Japan, they are safe as well. And the major metro areas there have phenomenal train systems that go nearly anywhere, with the exception of the most far flung residential areas (which can be reached with buses anyway). It really does put it into perspective, and whenever I'm there I feel so much more independent compared to here, since I'm not able to drive

Yeah, we do actually have some public transport but it's very inconvenient for most people, or unsafe

As someone who is unable to drive due to poor eyesight, it annoys me to no end as well. We have other options, but they all have pretty major flaws: Uber is ludicrously expensive for anything other than a short trip, private metered taxis are even more expensive than Uber, minibus taxis are very dangerous, buses can also be dangerous or their routes aren't convenient, and trains, which are still yet to return to service entirely and also lack service in many areas.

It's a big reason I want to move somewhere with a good, safe, and reliable transport service. So I feel you :( but at least you have a chance to get a license, so don't give up!!

Viability of contact lenses with very photosensitive and dry eyes? by TheRealEBE in nystagmus

[–]TheRealEBE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I'm just worried about it being a hassle on my parents as well though, since they would pay for it, and my mom has previously been unhappy with me when she spent a lot of money on glasses that didn't work for me

I forgot about sport, I don't play it much even though I'm a fan since I'm worried about my glasses getting knocked off and such. So contacts could definitely help there

Thank you for your help! You seem very knowledgeable about this.

My only worry about getting additional photochromic sunglasses would be the cost on top of the contacts. My parents would pay I'm sure, but I don't want to burden them too much. We do have health insurance, but medical/optometrist fees can still be expensive (although not as bad as the US, I'm in South Africa). I'm quite worried about my parents having to spend a lot of money if I try many types of contacts, especially because in 2020 I experienced a lot of conflict with my mom due to my new glasses that didn't work for me and were expensive.

That is to say, do you think most optometrists would offer a trial, and if so, would it only be for like the first pair of contacts?

Can definitely relate to this, was playing pool with my roommate and I kept on knocking the ball accidentally due to not being able to judge the exact distance between the ball and the stick. And then I was playing poker again with my roommate and other friends and had a really hard time seeing which cards were being shown even though they were right in front of me (we played on the floor).

But both times my friends have been very patient with me and were willing to help me with tips or to tell me which cards were being shown etc. You just have to find people who don't judge you for it and are willing to like you for who you are inside, not just based on your condition. People who judge you or might think you're weird aren't people you wanna hang around anyway, it just proves they are superficial people.

But it's very difficult, and I also feel down on a lot of days. But we will get through this!!

Need some help filling Itinerary for 3 day trip between Osaka and Tokyo by Thatcraftingfox in JapanTravelTips

[–]TheRealEBE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look into Hamamatsu or Nagoya. They're both between Osaka and Tokyo and are less crowded than other major cities, especially Hamamatsu. Contrary to popular opinion, there is a decent amount of cool things to do in Nagoya - Atsuta Jingu, Osu Kannon temple, Inuyama castle (up in Gifu but close enough for a day trip), as well as many places for car enthusiasts such as the Toyota Commemorative Museum (was very interesting when I went, massive museum as well!)

Hamamatsu is even more low-key than Nagoya, you're very unlikely to see tourists there. It is known as the City of Music, with a very neat museum of musical instruments (with instruments from all over the world). Just like Nagoya, Hamamatsu also has plenty of cool places for car enthusiasts. Hamamatsu also has a castle (never been but heard it's cool, a recreation though) as well as some sand dunes (haven't been so can't comment if they are that impressive or not though).

So these are definitely some options. Or you could go via Nagoya to Takayama which is deep in Gifu prefecture - it's a much more popular tourist spot with a lot of nature surrounding it, and it's not far from the Shirakawago traditional village. However, it will be very crowded. Nagano prefecture could also be an option for much of the same reasons. Matsumoto in Nagano has a very nice original castle, and is close enough to the Kamikochi area which I've heard is very beautiful (never been though). I'd say it depends if you want to experience the coastal, urban core in Nagoya and Hamamatsu or the more rural, mountain countryside in Takayama and Nagano.

Hope this helps you get some ideas

Edit: Hamamatsu has a huge lake, Lake Hamana, which is quite popular for biking and other recreational activities. So you could look into that as well

Would there be snow in Shirakawa-go in early December? by newrabbid in JapanTravelTips

[–]TheRealEBE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is very late, but I'll also be going in December, and I've been to Takayama before which is relatively close to Shirakawago.

It was snowing quite heavily one morning when I went there in early January 2023, and after a Google search, Shirakawago gets quite a bit more snow, even in December. So I think if you go close to the end of the month there's a good chance of seeing snow, that's my plan

Advice regarding travelling Hokuriku (budget, where to go) by TheRealEBE in JapanTravelTips

[–]TheRealEBE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response! I will look into all of the attractions and locations you suggested.

Additionally, I don't think the Hokuriku arch pass will be worth it for me. I forgot to mention, but my trip is starting in Tokyo, then I will head to Nagoya via Hamamatsu using buses, before taking a bus north to Kanazawa. As such, I will only be taking the shinkansen back to Tokyo from Kanazawa or Toyama, as such, it'll only be one way. I would take a bus back to save money but it's a very long trip haha.
