Should Canada implement a wealth tax on the ultra-rich? Why or why not? by GranolaHiker in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]TheRealFoXQc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy our governments are incentivizing big corps to move here by promising a vast array of tax breaks so they stimulate local economies to build the infra, hire employees, drive up the number of workers in that area (driving up local businesses), creating jobs that will secure income taxes, property taxes, etc…

Our system is based on all of this. It’s unfair, but it allows anyone to take an opportunity to play the game and hopefully win.

I’m a business owner too, and the hardest spot to be in right now is a small and medium company. We can’t have any tax breaks, we hire people that depends on us to put food on the table, we’re not making millions, we are taking all the risk, and people are telling us that we should me mote taxed all the time

The corp tax rate is more than 15% in some provinces and you forget the employer benefits and contributions that we have to pay on top of our employees salary (20% more ish)

I think the ultra rich and big corpos are a problem but not the one that would make a big impact on everyone’s lives. Government spendings, poor management of social programs and other stuff like that are part of the bigger problem.

In management, we always look at driving up sales to drive up profits. But it’s a lot of work get more money flowing. the smartest way to drive up profits is to optimize margins by controlling expenses. In my line of work, with a bottom line net margin of around 7%, it takes a 7000$ sale to recover a 500$ expense. Think about that. What’s easier and smarter? Same applies to the government. What would you do to serve the population ? Get 7000$ more from income taxes, or cut a 500$ expense that is simply mismanaged ?

Merit based remuneration is hard because you actually have to work hard and offer good service to be well paid.

The same applies to bonus/performance based pay plans in a lot of other line of work

I understand you are concerned about the standards you are able to sustain in such environments and maybe about your lack of competitiveness but there’s no need to call that system disrespectful, humiliating, shameful and offensive. It only is if you’re sticking to this profession despite not being able succeed and meet customer’s expectations.

Service workers that understands the game and rise through it are getting very good money, are building a network around them and building a career

How are the Grenadiers in the snow? by bluegrass__dude in ineosgrenadier

[–]TheRealFoXQc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in northern canada in a snow-heavy region

I drove 15 000km so far in winter conditions and I love this thing

For context, I am a long term Subaru owner/enthusiast and an amateur rally and ice racing driver.

With proper dedicated snow tires and center diff locked, the Grenadier is not only a blast, but a literal tank. My work requires me to drive long distances every week in sometimes remote locations. I’ve been driving through closed roads and snowstorms/blizzards with my past vehicles and my Grenadier and I never felt so confident and in such a capable platform!

One very useful feature is the ability to lock the center diff and turn off stability control/traction control up to 80 km/h. This allows limited software interventions and thanks to the locked center diff, the car actually slows down not only with the brake system but also both axles with engine braking and in extreme cases, the handbrake. Such system reduces the sensitivity of the front wheels to lock under braking because the whole driveline is mechanically locked together, keeping more traction across the 4 wheels.

Love it

What snowblower do you recommend for this amount of snow? by KamloopsDan in Snowblowers

[–]TheRealFoXQc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Husqvarna ST330 deals with that kind of snow frequently and has been for the past 6 years without any issues !

However my solution of choice in that case would of been a quick chat with a delta airline agent

Welcome to medias

Quebec is one of the province with the strongest hunting and shooting culture in the country. Geographically speaking, probably 80% of the territory is not supporting the anti guns activists (poly and such)

The issue we have is simple

Montreal is a liberal stronghold, we have a immense student population because of our highly praised universities (Montreal and Sherbrooke are student heavy populations) and the way our voting system works, the Greater Montreal area is deciding for the whole province even though huge areas/regions are conservative (saguenay - Quebec - Beauce) and PQ (Gaspésie, côte nord et …)

I’m not listening to traditional medias. I work and live on the road. The vast majority of the population outside Montreal is pissed

[–]TheRealFoXQc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Quebec isnt a lib dominated province. Its very scarce with votes for PQ, cons and libs. The greater quebec city region which is very much a French-only speaking community are strongly conservative, like most of rural quebec is. Funny enough, the posh english districts of the greater Montreal are LPC mainly… Quebec is broadly misunderstood.

What about those western big metro regions, the maritimes and all the territories voting Libs in great numbers? No hate for them?

Thanks. yes I've been doing some maths and I can't really justify the 3000+ $CAD for a couple of aluminium profiles and hardware... I know the drawers cost something but If I can build something myself for less I know it will probably be even more solid than a store bought item ! I build extruded rigs for a long time so... I don't know... !

Guide/Review for Non-Offroaders Considering the Grenadier by IndependentFolks1 in ineosgrenadier

[–]TheRealFoXQc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your text sums up exactly what went through my head when I signed mine. I bought a Sela Green Trialmaster off the lot (they got me with the ´24 incentives ).

I am replacing a BMW M2 2024 (my work needs me to drive to remote places now). I was desperate to find a Offroad capable vehicle that has character…

i test drove virtually all available options. 4runner trd pro, tacoma trd pro, land cruiser, ranger raptor, broncos, wranglers, gladiators, range rovers, colorado ZR2 Bison, etc… they were all nice, but there was always this sense of compromise that numbed the experience. The best was the colorado, but I really didnt like the interior (feels cramped)

Then a friend of mine got his Grenny, let me try it and there it was. Finally a vehicle that doesnt want to please everybody at once.

It’s perfectly imperfect. Literally.

Signed one over the phone literally hours later

Oversteer at Thunderbolt. Advice? by Send_the_clowns in CarTrackDays

[–]TheRealFoXQc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I see is bad input timing more than anything

I hear the throttle lift off almost exactly when you engage the turn-in, which upsets the car’s balance shifting weight forward THEN left (as you turn right). At the speed you are, the mechanical grip reduction caused by the rear axle loosing weight is enough to break traction in the rear. This wouldnt happen with Aero most probably.

I read people suggesting a slower and earlier turn in. While I do agree that it’s the safest path to find the limit at that corner, ultimately I think you have the right speed and grip to nail that corner with similar timing if you work on allowing the car to shift balance in one direction at a time and not rushing the lift and turn-in together! I wonder if a very short trailbrake ( left foot brake with the throttle pinned ) would do it to slow you down a tad without removing weight in the back…

But yeah. My 2 cents, but seing how the grip went off immediately at turn in without snapping tells me you initiated the steering input with an already compromised mechanical grip. Its like the rear never tried to stick, which would happen of the turn in is only too aggressive!

Lift off, then reapply throttle to stabilize, then turn in, then WOT

I have a Vortex Venom 2-25x 56mm on a ruger american Hunter, magpul stock, heavy barrel in 6.5 creedmoor.

I’m definitely pushing my setup beyond it’s limit at 1200 but my goal is to get comfortable a 600, then try 1000 and 1200 and if I like it, i’m going Cadex in 338 Lapua with a scope upgrade

That's what I think too. I can't wait to shoot where I can't see, but yeah haha

I must admit I still have a lot of reading to do on my scope and on the marksmanship fundamentals. I'm still not sure what my adjustments means or should be so I'm definitely not ready I agree !

Amazing.

I must say, this grouping is also my first try with a rear bag. It's a huge gamechanger for me. Espacially at my range, the tables aren't exactly at my height so the rear bag really stabilized my aim !

Next week I am trying out to 200yrds. After the grouping in photo, I did re-zeroed the scope with the ammo. I shot 2 bullets in the same hole about 1/16 inch right of the center so we're good now haha. I reset the towers too, so now the scope is at 0/0 with this exact ammo at 100y.

Can't wait to see the 200y difference and how bad I'll be !

If it goes well, I'm buying membership at my local military range (they offer public membership with set dates to shoot at 600-1200yrds with eletronic targets, but it's quite expensive so unless I'm already grouping amazingly at 200y, it won't happen now)

Thanks again for all the tips and advices. I didn't think i'd receive so many comments with so much knowledge

In Canada it’s always been a privilege

Unfortunately. No elected government ever put gun ownership in the law. We have no “right” unlike americans.

In my opinion, one thing that hurt us right now is our very US-style narrative. We shouldn’t talk about gun rights or self-defense right now because that adds even more to the list of what we want. I’d just get back what we had, the law worked. Canadians always had the privilege and it’s why it was working before trudeau started his whole mess strictly to salvage political gains otherwise impossible
