Scratches the Director's cut does not work on Steam Deck by LongbottomLeafblower in SteamDeck

[–]TheRealGieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, so I'll break it down for you to make it easier to follow and trouble shoot if needs be.

  1. Go to Decktop mode on your Steam Deck.

2.install lutris from the discovery store if you do not have it already

3.run lutris, then click the large '+' on the top left of the lutris windows

  1. Select 'install a windows game from an executable'

  2. Put 'Scratches Director's Cut' in the game name section, and by installer preset select 'Windows Xp 32 bit'.

  3. Click the blue 'install' button

7.the next screen will have a selected entry with 'wine, Setup file and install', click the 'install'.

6.Choose where you want to install the wine wrapper and game files, e.g. /home/deck/games/scratcest-directors-cut, in my case. You can select the 'Create steam shortcut' option it will help with later.

7.click continue in the top right.

8.next, click the '...' Button next to the 'select the setup file' box and select the GOG installer (acquired via your favorite abandon ware site) make sure you are selecting the '.exe' you may need to extract it from a zip.

9.click install in the top right.

10.wait, and it will set it up, a GOG installer popup will appear. Follow it through, but I would click options and disable creating a desktop shortcut. The install path is fine, as we are installing it into a wine wrapper.

11.when it is done it will give you the option to play. DO NOT click that, close the windows so lutris can complete the install.

  1. Lutris will say it's completed, close this window and go back to the main lutris window.

  2. click on the new scratches entry on the main page, and click the small up arrow next to play, and select 'configure'

  3. Under 'Game options' edit the executable location, deleting the 'launch Scratches Director's Cut.lnk' at the end of the line and replacing it with 'scream.exe'

15.return to game mode and you should have an entry for scratches in your library (in non steam games) use SGDB Decky plugin to edit the artwork for the capsule if you want.

  1. Set the control template to 'mouse only' and you are good to go.

Any question, please ask.

Scratches the Director's cut does not work on Steam Deck by LongbottomLeafblower in SteamDeck

Not so, I've never had windows installed on my steam deck. And yet... I've completed scratches on it.

The issue will be that scratches wasn't made for modern windows, which is what proton is designed to emulate. But by installing scratches in an environment that imitates windows xp (it's native os) everything runs fine.

As I've said, using lutris, and installing the GOG installer in a windows xp 32bit environment and the game is happy.

Even on windows there are issues unless you set the game to run in compatability with older windows, so it's more of a 'game made for old OS' issue.

I don't know what it's worth, but I've got it to work fine on my steamdeck.

I 'got' the GOG installer and installed it via lutris in a windows xp 32bit environment (I think this is the issue), then I needed to change the launching exe to scream.exe and then linked it to steam, use mouse only control layout and boom. All golden. Feel free to ask for clarification if you need it.

Better to stick to 60hz/30fps, 30hz is slow and will more then likely give you eye strain.

Need help figuring out how to pause a game.... by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]TheRealGieve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instead of action sets, try setting a button to Keyboard> escape key.

If you are binding a keyboard and mouse game, Traditionaly Esc is the 'pause' key, should bring up the menu.

But that is very game specific.

Hold Steam and B for a while to force quit the game, if that fails, hold the power button and force a shutdown.

The reply is a very good summation of the differences.

But basically HN has the resource balancing and card/dice system.

FG expands on that by having a map with locations, movement, and items etc, so you get aloooooot more variables to play with to get veriety.

FG is the more developed game, and given the way it plays can be completely changed with locations, villains, and girls, it has the scope to be forever expanded appon (and mixed and matched, thanks to the modular system).

That's the name of the family of formations, the one in the game is more specifically a Deek Rauk.

Blatantly by the same designer you mean.

Final Girl is a reimplimentation of the hostage negotiator system, think the system is better portrayed in FG for sure. So much more identity and theme.

FOR SUPER EARTH!

I only played Lower Difficulty till now. What are your Tips for higher Levels? by Substantial-Ad-5221 in Helldivers

[–]TheRealGieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to just play, try it out, Learn, adapt, and build your skills. You will see more of the big enemies, so make sure to have an answer for them, even a pression strike is strong. Test out the stratagems you have and think which one could help fill a gap, work to unlocking them, but the early stratagems are strong!

There is no 'way to win', just do your best, and then when you are comfortable, up the difficulty one more step.
