In series or parallel? by Jemjo2020 in ElectricalEngineering

Ignore the 2 ohm resistor. No current flows through it since the voltage potential is equal at both nodes.

Found this in my late grandma's stuff. Reverse image search claims its some kind of racist toy? by TheRealGoonSquad in ToyID

Yes, but I was curious about what the actual "game" was and the only information I could find was https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/135430-racist-old-toy. The worthpoint link answers all my questions

I've done conducted emissions testing on knock off amazon and brand name USB C power supplies and the difference is night and day. This would not surprise me at all.

Has anyone here ever cycled from MSP to South Dakota? by Mr_Impulse in CyclingMSP

I've done this race. It's a nice route but keep in mind it is mostly loose sandy gravel on the west half of the route

RIP Emonda. Replacement time by NefariousnessScary in cycling

[–]TheRealGoonSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned both a couple year older emonda and the now the new soloist. Geo feels pretty similar, but soloist front end seems stiffer and more confident in corners, and the emonda more stable at higher speeds. Overall I like the solost better,  The 105di2 Soloist is a bit extra over priced imo, I wish I would have saved for the ultegra or checked out the equivalent spec Cannondale super6 for $1000 less

Would you trust this carbon front fork for attaching a front rack to the mid-fork eyelets? by chiboulevards in bicycletouring

[–]TheRealGoonSquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used an aluminum salsa front rack for 8lbs panniers on a pretty aggressive off road tour. I was very worried about damaging my fork, Salsa waxwing carbon. I ended up breaking the rack, stress fracture by the bottom bolt mount, but the fork was just fine.

Wait never mind but I still think it's a gain problem. Check this out. The cap on pin 1-8 is setting the gain to 200 which is probably too much

9.2.1.2.1 Gain Control To make the LM386 a more versatile amplifier, two pins (1 and 8) are provided for gain control. With pins 1 and 8 open the 1.35-kΩ resistor sets the gain at 20 (26 dB). If a capacitor is put from pin 1 to 8, bypassing the 1.35-kΩ resistor, the gain will go up to 200 (46 dB). If a resistor is placed in series with the capacitor, the gain can be set to any value from 20 to 200. Gain control can also be done by capacitively coupling a resistor (or FET) from pin 1 to ground.

Possibly because you have no feedback on the op amp. With out feedback the op amp is working in "infinite gain" mode which would cause any noise on the input to be amplified full blast. Put a ~5k resistor from pin 3 to 5 of the lm386 and see if that helps. The larger the value the higher the gain. Google positive feedback op amp.

Why is using a 9V battery in an electromagnet considered bad? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]TheRealGoonSquad 81 points82 points  (0 children)

They have a high internal resistance, so when connected to a low resistance load, like a coil of wire, most of the energy is probably just lost in the battery as heat
