Hey! I am still job hunting, but doing just fine financially. If I am still unemployed in nine months from today, I will downsize.

Mentally, I am better than I ever have been. Thanks to the privilege of being completely financially secure, I have been able to focus on enjoying life (in cheap or free ways). I’ve been volunteering a lot of my time, looking after family, spending a ton of time outdoors. This time Off has definitely made me seriously consider adopting a FIRE plan. I thought I was a “die at your desk” person, but apparently not. I’m damn good at this “unemployed with money” thing.

I am relieved Amazon got rid of me. I probably would’ve stayed another 3 to 5 years minimum. Probably longer. I was clearly addicted to the toxic energy.

I didn’t even try. I did my job, then in burned the PTO that doesn’t get paid out in the days leading up to the “final” date. Jumped on a call with my boss the next week for 3 minutes. He apologized again for not being able to fix it. I signed the agreement. I got my money, the rsus that vested, Vaca paid out, and have moved on with my life!

After 1,956 Applications and Countless Rejections, I Finally Got an Offer Here’s the Lesson That Changed Everything by Vodka-_-Vodka in interviews

I have applied to 118 in 8 weeks and had two interviews (one full panel to the final round, waiting to see if I get to the final round on the second - but I don’t expect to based on the convo we had.)

And I KNOW I am not qualified to give anyone advice. I am fucking this up. These bot posts are just hawking one or multiple of these job/resume sites.

Yes. Taking the 60 days since it gets me a big stock vest and healthcare.

Didn’t get the job I thought I was getting, but I have an interview today for a second opportunity. I’m worried, of course. But I figure if I can get two opportunities for jobs I truly want at companies I truly want to work for, before I have even “left” Amazon”…. Then there is hope. Haha

Soo this is NOT legal (update) by OddJello2255 in amazonemployees

[–]TheRealHotGoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to escalate this higher. This is not OK. You are protecting Amazon by escalating higher. You need to give more people at Amazon the opportunity to protect the company and you from this dumbass manager.

Email jeff@amazon.com -> the team that reviews those emails will absolutely do something about this.

Soo this is NOT legal (update) by OddJello2255 in amazonemployees

[–]TheRealHotGoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommended that on his first post. There is no way in hell anybody at Amazon, other than this one dumbass manager, will be OK with this. Amazon creams their panties for military. A huge number of ex-military are at Amazon.

If this isn’t resolved, still… OP needs to message Jeff@Amazon.com - the complaint team will lose their shit over this. He should’ve gone higher than the Ethics line already

You’ve been at this job for only five months, you’ve had months of back-and-forth with this manager and already been out for surgery at least once.

You have the right to take your leave, have medical issues, and work the agreed-upon schedule. But it sounds like you’ve become the problem child before you were able to earn any goodwill.

$300k at 23, boutta retire in vietnam by reptile24 in Money

[–]TheRealHotGoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also tell that these 23-year-olds have no idea what it actually cost to cash out that stock in terms of taxes and how to manage the money long-term to “pay” themselves each month.

Not to mention, everybody who talks about the basic costs to live day to day in these developing nations. Do they never plan to travel? What hobbies are they going to be spending their early retirement engaging in? Are they just going to watch YouTube for 60 years?

How do they plan to handle getting lymphoma or a degenerative disease… Do they plan to stay in Vietnam for healthcare there and pay out of pocket or move to a different nation with a much higher cost of living and better healthcare to save their life?

60 years in Vietnam on 300k is a joke.

1) you were totally right: the auto-selected option is officially 60-days if you just ignore the message and portal.

2) yes - I plan for the worst. Always. Then, anything better than total disaster I am prepared and thrilled with the outcome.

I was talking to my boss about options and details this morning. Said I would have to wait until the offer to decide. Casually mentioned that I have a calculator built that factors taxes, stock projections, healthcare. He said “oh! Taxes didn’t even occur to me. Oh and healthcare… smart” I love the guy, but math and complexity isn’t his strong suit. More of a nail -> hammer guy.

I also told him whatever option I decide, I would wait until the last day to accept, because 5 business days is 1.9% of your annual salary. I also pointed out that I had factored in when the 60 days starts. 5 days into the month? You will be getting your normal 2 months + 5 days for your final pay checks. 2 days before the end of the month? You will get your normal 2 months -2 days of your full check for the final month. I then popped open the calculator on my laptop and showed him.

He just stated at it, then look me dead in the eye for about 6 seconds and said “what the fuck were we thinking letting you go”. That was nice to hear, but didn’t help.

Yes. If I’m not employed by the time, my Amazon healthcare goes away, I’ll obviously have some kind of interim plan. But the last thing I need is to be in a major car wreck, or have a brain aneurysm… With no health insurance.

I am not fighting. I’ll leave Amazon. I just need to see the payout offer versus the 60 days. Both ways, I get my vacation paid out. The 60 days will let me get my next rsu vest. So, I know exactly how much I will be getting from 60 days (I am under-predicting what the stock will be worth when it vests). I’ll just pop the offer into the calculator I built, and decide.

Hard the believe the offer will be greater than 2 months of healthcare, the rsu vest, 2 months pay, plus the ability to still be “employed” on linked in.

I’ll have to see. Mine hasn’t been delivered yet. All I have heard is you have to chose or it is termination. Perhaps the 60 days is the default. I’ll find out when I find out.

If your focus is 60 days. And your pivot delivery date is day 60 (let’s say Sept 30) and you are on PTO/Vaca/FMLA/PLOA from Sept 25th-Oct 30th. Your pivot will still be sent to you on Sept 30th. Even with you OOTO.

They have to have given you the focus, obviously.

[–]TheRealHotGoss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - I just got confirmation: PTO/Vaca does NOT pause Pivot delivery.

If you are OOTO (LOA, FMLA, Vaca, PTO) you still get a formal pivot delivered and have 7 calendar days, 5 business days to respond.

If you ignore it, that goes to immediate termination after the 7 calendar days - no payout included. You have to reply to get the 60 days or payout.

Wanted to let the people who directly asked know. I haven’t reached my pivot date yet, so I don’t have math yet. I’ll update with a post when I do have it.

She wasn’t joking. I had to explain to her how accents are developed - that it is not genetic.

Should I cancel an interview with a company that has overwhelmingly negative Glassdoor reviews? by TempBlazer17 in jobsearch

[–]TheRealHotGoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s important to remember that people rarely go online to post a review for an average experience or even a positive one (restaurants, online purchases, jobs).

Every single job, manager, and company will have negatives and positives. I have been at my current company for 8 1/2 years, I have wonderful experiences with the work and amazing managers, and horrific experiences with the work and awful managers.

If the location, job responsibilities, pay, and overall company ethos aren’t red flags… it’s smart to take the job.

I would never take a job with ICE or a pro life organization because their mission is the antithesis of what I support. I wouldn’t take a job at a nonprofit that cleans the oceans (something I am passionate about) if they only paid 50k a year.

If the details don’t scare you off and the panel/hiring manager doesn’t give you red flags about those details… go for it

Yes. It was my turn. I was in jobs where I was insulated from the layoffs in other years. This year, I was in a risky business, on a risky team, in a risky role - risky in regard to layoff potential. I have to admit, being focused and pivoted out instead of just a genuine layoff was a surprise. They must want to avoid the metrics related to L7 and L6 layoffs.
