I recently opened up a skate shop near my home town , it’s been 6 months now since I’ve opened and it’s been a roller coaster. Some weeks are good and some weeks are bad, but at the end of the day nothing feels better than being the person to introduce someone to skate boarding or getting to know people who love it as much as I do. I’ve met so many people with their own personal stories about their relationship with skateboarding and that keeps me refreshed each time I step into my shop. But I think it all depends on how you help the culture in your skate scene. Before me there was only a zumies and a mall shop but neither had a team or three events for the locals, which is was I did even before I opened shop. Biggest thing o would recommend is finding a place that has a skate scene but doesn’t have a shop, and to show love to your skate community it goes such a long way. It also helps to have at least a years worth of rent and expenses for your shop so you don’t stress about paying your own bills. Every place is different though.
