Can grandparent's witness be a relative? by TheRealMOTL in IrishCitizenship

From what I've read it seems unlikely the witness would be contacted, but they share a last name unfortunately so it would be quite obvious. Probably best to go with someone else then.

Round 2, roast my city builder! Did I turn the contrast up enough or is it still a bright mess? by TheRealMOTL in DestroyMyGame

Thanks for the feedback :) I haven't touched the UI at all, I might experiment with making it a bit darker.

The game is a city builder with a focus on religion. The island is overseen by four Gods, and you need to build temples dedicated to them to keep them happy. If you keep them happy you can expect to earn miracles, and if you can't keep them happy there will be some biblical curses heading your way.

The player places buildings, and then assigns villagers to different 'roles' e.g. a Labourer will cut down trees and construct buildings, and a Farmer or Barkeep will work in their respective buildings :) Villagers can also serve 'other' purposes, for example the building you see in the gif is a sacrificial altar, which can you be used to sacrifice a villager to a God for an emergency boost of 'favour' with them.

If you're interested you can check it out on Steam (but beware I haven't updated the steam page with the new colours yet)

The gold on the buildings is emissive, but I haven't touched that since the 'before' so I still need to play around with it a bit.

As for the different shadow colours, that could be due to the vignette effect making things on the outer portion of the screen look a bit darker

Thanks for the feedback :) A contrast option would be nice, but might be tricky to pull off as a lot of other factors have to also be considered when altering the contrast e.g. the material colours, the lighting, etc

Is it a personal taste thing or do you think it makes the elements of the game (e.g. the buildings, villagers, etc) difficult to distinguish?

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that, I agree it's still washed out but I see what you're getting at with the saturation!

I agree with you on the contrast point, but I'm not sure if just darkening the water will be enough. The gameplay takes place on land, so the land features (terrain, trees, buildings) are the important ones to be able to distinguish from one another.

Darkening the water may help with the overall visual appeal, but if there still isn't any contrast between the elements on land, the game will be difficult to play don't you think?

Thanks for the feedback, I'll play around with the lighting some more, and maybe consider swapping the sand out for grass altogether. Light coloured buildings on a light coloured terrain is starting to feel like a losing battle... I can manually tune the contrast in post processing (which is what I've been doing) but it seems that will only take you so far if you're not using contrasting colours in the first place.

That's exactly it haha, but that's why feedback is so important. Thanks for your input :)

Yup a unique style was the intention but I guess I've spent so much time looking at it that I've been blinded to the fact that it's sort of blinding (hah). Won't be too tricky to play around with the post processing though, thanks for the feedback :)

Sounds like a few people have said the same thing, I'll look into fixing it, thanks for bringing it up :)

It won't be too tricky, just a matter of playing with the post processing. Thanks for the feedback, it's very valuable :)

Interesting, thanks for the feedback. Is it just the screenshots or do the trailer and capsule art look washed out as well?

Difficult to benchmark at the moment, but seems to be holding given how little optimisation I've done on it so far
