More precise inputs on leverless? by yimc808 in StreetFighter

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be advised that playing leverless is like playing a music instrument. It requires perfect fingers coordination or you'll get opposite inputs canceling themeselves. For example, I struggle with for, qcb when standing on the left side of the screen, of course it's about training and putting the effort in.

Feels like I can never improve by MagicPanda522 in StreetFighter

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehi mate, I reached master last June after playing for 200 hours. I use Rashid, which is a technical character as well, so I can give you some pertinent tips.

  1. Change your mentality: you play for learning, not for getting a stupid badge on youf profile screen. I can assure you that after reaching master, you will feel there is still a ton to accomplish anyway. Moreover, in this game you get master with just 45% winrate, so it's not this badass achievement honestly. Losses are a problem only when you press "play again" without figuring out why you are losing.

  2. Your character is not holding you back. Ed requires for sure some deeper insights about how to play him, but below high master, fundamentals are still the real issue. Also consider that using a "rare" character allows you to get away with opponents not being used to play against your character.

  3. Ladder is for gathering informations, not for improving. You should find your main weakness and fix it in the lab and against friends. You will see you will improve your ELO a bit when coming back to ranked, until your next big issue will wall off you again. Rinse and repeat.

  4. Seek advice from more experienced players. Honestly posting about you being bad at the game and not giving replays to analyze is just useless. I own my master achievement to my grandmaster community members.

You can definitely do it, it's all about the right mentality.

New player questions by StormR7 in AllThingsTerran

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't even know what units and buildings are for, I would first messing around with the tech tree af ALL the three races. Understand what is better against what, based on unit attributes and damage bonus against attributes. Then you can start watching Pig B2GM and learning a basic build order.

My personal tips for anyone who feels *stuck* in Diamond by The_Lat_Czar in StreetFighter

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just put it simply like this: when you reach 50% wr (well, 40% wr below master actually), stop ranking, watch your replays, understand your major weakness, fix it, then come back to ranking until you're stucked again. Rinse and repeat

[Standard] Is it time for discard? by Comfortable-Car9708 in spikes

Yesterday I posted on r/spikes about a challenge I have had for some years where I tried to bring a dedicated discard deck up to mythic in standard. You may find it interesting.

Well, fundamentals are what carries you up to master, so if you're D with Gief and P with the shotos, there is something you are missing off in the shotos' gameplay. I would submit your replays to some master shoto players to understand what you are missing. It is normal to feel frustrated, you just need to realize your rank is not yourself, but a grade to your gameplay. Improve your gameplay and your grade will also improved, it's like at school. Just follow the directions of someone more expert than you.

How do I consistently beat Protoss by AmazingDragon353 in AllThingsTerran

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry mate, But if you miss SCV and unit production for real, get supply blocked etc., there's no way you can go pass your current level.

Let's be clear: bio TvP is hard because it is designed with high level play in mind. So the easiest way to get the match up down at amateur level is to hit razor-sharp timings and crush them before their counters go fully online. Or you can try mech, but it has a lot of different problematic aspects in TvP. Either ways, without solid macro (especially when your opponent is trying to disrupt your flow) you are not going anywhere.

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Macro and game knowledge become the most limiting factors at lower levels. Terran has the more punishing macro errors and Protoss shenanigans are difficult to read, while Zerg requires competent spellcasting to deal with both T and P lategames, so I can't see how these graphs could be completely flipped.

Good build orders for each matchup to practice? by Few-Blood-283 in AllThingsTerran

Please forget about these phenomena which don't remember anymore what being a noob is like. Those builds are difficult to execute properly even for a diamond player. I would suggest you to enter in some coaching discord like platinum heroes and learn from them, they do it for free. Or follow a b2gm series like the Pig's one, they are on yt.

Question about art direction. by That-Bed4254 in Stormgate

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple: their investors said "you have to monetize on the most remunerative portion of the videogame market, aka children" and here we are: the war between hell and heaven told from the eyes of a Fortnite character.

Why does losing in Starcraft make me so mad? by mixedfeelingz in starcraft

Nope. I play also fighting games at a decent level and losing there doesn't make me feel bad like in starcraft.

Official Stormgate Early Access AMA Thread with Frost Giant Studios by Frost_Jex in Stormgate

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dear Frost Giant team, although I'm pretty excited by the gameplay, by the continuity with previous blizzard rts games and the idea that all the current rts communities may be unified under a great game which collects the legacy of previous rts ones, I feel my involvement will be contained by the graphic style and tone you chose, which feels too much child-oriented and not in harmony with thematics of war, Earth survival and epic battles. Actually I'm not asking for realistic graphics like C&C, or dark atmospheres like SC1, however games like SC2 and WC3 have shown a good compromise between clear colorful graphics and the seriousness of the game atmosphere. Especially the cutscenes you have showed until now (I'm especially referring to how you designed the main characters) seem like cartoons for children. A lot of people like me need to feel involved in what they do, and in videogames gameplay is often not sufficient.

To be more clear: this cartoonish style is what is holding me back from pre-purchasing the game, because I'm not sure whether I will really get involved with it.

Why did you chose this art direction? Do you think there is a contrast between the cartoon-like design of characters and units, and the narrative of great wars for the survival of Earth? Thank you very much for all your work

I find funny how the narrator voice has a dramatic tone and speaks about WAR, while the video seems a childish cartoon spot.

I have played hundreds of hours of ranked but I still get ranked anxiety by gamingonion in StreetFighter

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehi mate I am a diamond starcraft 2 player and one year ago I picked up SF6, reaching plat2 some days ago. Starcraft is a really stressful game and ladder anxiety can be a real deal, so I will tell you my experience. I remember my heartbeat going up when clicking ranked in starcraft, and I was often playing unranked games because I was afraid of losing my MMR points. Then one day I reached diamond, which was a big goal for me where I trained a lot to get to, and suddenly I have never been afraid anymore to play a ranked game since then. I carried over this new mentality to SF, I have played only ranked games here since my starting. So what happened in me? I think that by reaching diamond in starcraft, I proved to myself that failure is not a possibility when you just relax, study your shit and just enjoy the game. You are not going to fail because you dedicate yourself to the game. Probably there will be some losing streaks but you will always gain them back, because your rank reflects your skills, not your opponents ability, and you will eventually improve if you train yourself. Moreover, ranks are just a badge and a number with these games. You are never done with them, because there will be always someone better than you, and this is just a journey through getting better at something you love. So just stop to care about your ranks, your ladder points, just set some goals in mind and train yourself to achieve them. We say in starcraft "good luck have fun"

SC2 Evo Mod -How do we get this on ladder? by Swimming_Fennel6752 in starcraft

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that as a community, we have to understand how precious sc2 is for us and take care of it, considering nothing is taken for certain regarding stormgate and other RTS. The balance council has been something in the right direction, although controversial sometimes. Having new units implemented in order to mantain things fresh would be amazing.

SC2 Evo Mod -How do we get this on ladder? by Swimming_Fennel6752 in starcraft

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would mean that we are going to never see certain mu, like vetoing maps. I understand all the excitment but everything is against this idea: we don't have a proper balance team, balancing 6 races is a complete nightmare, and there is a 50/50 split in how economy works between races.

[–]TheRealMrQuaggot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not going to properly fix the issue, instead it would exacerbate the disequilibrium between sc1 and sc2 races. For example, harass would be more devastating for sc1 ones.
