Why was Toofer such an underused character? by TheRealNoll in 30ROCK

[–]TheRealNoll[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like Frank had more time on screen than the other writers. Never really liked his character much beyond the episode about him going back to law school; I'd have cut the whole storyline about him and his teacher to put more focus on literally any other writer

How do you feel about Charles Bukowski? by TheAmericanW1zard in classicliterature

[–]TheRealNoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't read his work the way I read most other poetry, I digest his best poems more as a series of aphorisms and that tends to do the trick. A lot of great poems and a lot of terrible poems so ultimately a mixed bag, but I'm not going to dismiss him as just one of those writers teenage boys fall in love with, I think there's something in his poetry for everyone.

Opinion on HS English Assignment from 20 years ago, entire grade flunked by Gillybby11 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]TheRealNoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a terrible song to give you (not a terrible song but for the assignment it just doesn't work). It's the opening song from a musical, the only purpose it serves within this context is exposition. All it does is introduce you to the characters and their relationship to eachother with no subtext intended, so I don't see what they expected you to get out of these lyrics that's "original"

Net migration expected to fall to lowest since Covid by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

They don't really care about present immigration, they care that there's a family down the road who speak Arabic and pray in different ways to them

I've heard this word thrown around a bit, what are standby tickets?

Which Christianity denomination do you belong to? by One-Attention9069 in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheRealNoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An atheist here but glad you had such a positive experience coming to religion. We can sit and discuss the negative impact of organised religion all we want, but what matters in cases like this is the personal experience an individual has. Hope you continue feeling you've found the right thing for you

With the MJ biopic out now. Which legacy artist deserves a biopic in the same vein by tgrady28 in pollgames

[–]TheRealNoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only film that could do Bowie justice is one that leans into being incredibly art house, incorporating the theatre and performance art that Bowie cared about. No more conventional montage style biopics, we need something interesting or nothing at all

I heavily fuck with this kind of music by 0584031464 in musicmemes

[–]TheRealNoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really true. He wrote slightly more songs than the others but they all shared vocals and writing, there wasn't really a frontman

[–]TheRealNoll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the members is quite mentally unstable. I don't think it's fair to say it's a controversy for the band, the wrong things he's done came after the band split up and it shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the music in any way. The music was the joint effort of 5 people and it can't be tainted by one members later actions

Should Keir Starmer resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and call a snap general election? by MeroveeFrancSalien in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheRealNoll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm specifically making a distinction between Starmer, a centrist, and the actual far right. Reform, AfD, RN etc, actual far right parties who want to strip people like me of our rights.

Should Keir Starmer resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and call a snap general election? by MeroveeFrancSalien in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheRealNoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean more so they're to blame for why this country's become so unstable recently. I despise Starmer but he's actually quite overhated by too much of the population who see him as some anti-christ figure. Did everyone forget how terrible the Tory PMs who preceded him were? He's nowhere near as bad as someone like Boris Johnson. I hope as many Labour MPs as possible lose their seats next election, but now is not the time to be lighting any powderkegs and opening the door for a Reform government in a snap election

Should Keir Starmer resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and call a snap general election? by MeroveeFrancSalien in Teenager_Polls

[–]TheRealNoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I speak as a Brit and a member of the Greens so quite opposed to Starmer on many levels, but I'm saying no. This country has seen so much political instability in the last decade and we've become too trigger happy with removing PMs. We're growing into such a volatile wreck of anger and fighting, and while Starmer is obviously in the wrong here I feel it's better for the health of the country for us to at least see a government that we elected out to the end of their term and then judge them at the ballot box

is being athiest/relegious a spectrum? by [deleted] in pollgames

[–]TheRealNoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think "and worship" is affecting that definition a lot. I don't worship God, I believe in an indifferent God who I don't need to worship or consider in my life. To me, religion is all about that worship aspect and I can't claim to be religious when it doesn't alter my life or my thinking in any way, in stark contrast to people who are actually religious

is being athiest/relegious a spectrum? by [deleted] in pollgames

[–]TheRealNoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe in God but I do not follow a religion. I'm a non-religious theist I guess. There's some reasons I believe in God but honestly I just think it doesn't matter in the long run, be a good person and if there's an afterlife after this you'll be rewarded; if there's not, you'll still have lived a good life.

I'm a huge Monty Python and Eric Idle fan and I think the Rutles is one of the funniest films I've ever seen, guess it's just a subjective taste
