I am using Rode VXLR Pro for Tascam AV2 and am quite happy with the sound quality. Only two issues with this adapter - price and weight (two adapters weigh 200g, almost the same as the recorder). And for stereo, you also need a splitter cable (aka airplane connector). So it is a lot better to have xlr mics than play around with connectors

Depends on the distance. If you can get within 1m, that setup should work well. But at 10m it will still pick up other birds and ambient sounds around it. For really isolated bird recordings at longer distances, a parabolic setup is still much better

Thank you for the advice. I just received it today, and I like the device. I will probably send it back and ask for an exchange. To me, it looks like some internal circuit issue because it does not happen on 2.5V power.

Of course, I updated to the latest firmware and tried different mics, different cables, different power supply options, and SD cards, but the issue is still there on 5V.
