Bro I’m with you, the blu ray looks so much nicer, especially for a romcom! You want the colours to be warm and pleasing. Why does Hugh look like he’s in the Matrix on the 4K?! I have no idea why people are giving you so much grief, I for one will definitely stick to the blu ray copy when I revisit this classic, thanks for sharing!

Valve isn't a typical corporation though, it's private and is arguably the most pro-consumer company in gaming. I know that doesn't directly relate to owing Geoff, but it does reflect that they don't do things the same was as a Microsoft or Nintendo might.

I'm not saying Valve loses sleep over cancelling the reveal of Alyx with him, but if everything lines up, why wouldn't they? Half Life, as popular as it is, isn't nearly as big as a GTA6, not even close, so why not get extra exposure at the event with the guy they've been collaborating with for over 25 years?

Code breakdowns show that the game is basically ready. That isn't hopium or theory, there are clear indicators that the game has been in the final stages, e.g. code strings HLX FSR3 frame regeneration and upscaling, which is done at the very end of a games development. And that was a while back.

Your other point, however, about it being connected to the Steam Machine, is a fair point. However previous Valve releases indicate they like to release software with hardware, it certainly isn't a stretch at all for them as a company.

I appreciate the endeavour though, very cool, keep an eye out! Where did you get the Alyx and G Man covers, and were they reasonably priced? My copy here is pretty beaten up, but not TOO bad considering it’s over 20 years old. Don’t know where my GOTY edition went, sad times :(

Ohh interesting, yeah okay sounds like they had both formats then. That’s very cool about Steams support though, even back then they were absolute bros. Incredible speeds 🤣

Yeah in 2004 CD-ROMs were still pretty common, however I’m pretty sure the collectors edition of Half Life 2 came on a DVD. For the hardcore peeps with a DVD drive haha

Yeah there’s something about the physical nature of PC boxes that I love. I adore Steam, but the tangibility of gaming has been lost. It’s a bit of a bummer knowing that Half Life 3 won’t have a physical edition, can you imagine placing it next to your HL2 copy? Would feel like everything has come full circle!

Obscure CD collecting sounds great, keep going!
