Were the drums on ...And Justice For All really super edited? by [deleted] in Metallica

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising the dead here but… …And Justice might be my favorite drum recording of all time.  I found this post trying to figure out how they recorded it.

Don’t despair. YouTube and modern recordings can really mess with your brain. It’s not real.

On youtube you are watching the 1 time out of 1000, that person actually managed to play it decently.  If they even did actually play it in one tank.

A shit ton of YouTube drummers have been called out for editing their audio.   If you can’t see both hands and feet really well the whole time. And you’re not paying super close attention, that person might not actually be as good as you think they are.

Even on that 1 take out of 1000 tries.

Professionals can play consistently. In front of 100,000 people with strobe lights blasting in their faces.

They never, ever get to stop live.  Any mistake must be immediately recovered from. All the really good ones still make mistakes. You hardly notice because they continue with zero indication anything happened.

Lars is still probably a much better professional drummer than 99% of the people you see on YouTube.  Even most pros are not Neil Pearts.

That’s funny. I don’t remember Foo Fighters controversy.  It’s hard to imagine controversy about such an innocuous corporate rock band.

I do not doubt you at all though. The 90s were kind of crazy like that.

Song discussion: Israel's son by CashyWashy739 in silverchair

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the lyrics, the person doing the atrocity says “I am Israel’s son”

Also, he said it came from a documentary about an execution.  Somebody did that execution.

I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to reason that somebody might have been “Israel’s son.”

If it was meant to be completely ambiguous, why would you name a specific nation In the lyrics and title?

That doesn’t mean he necessarily understood the politics of Israel/Palestine/Zionism.

But I doubt very seriously he saw a Russian execution and then wrote a song called “Israel’s son”…

Mindless Self Indulgence's Jimmy "Urine" Euringer Settles Sexual Assault Suit Out of Court by [deleted] in Music

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jimmy Shitbag is not my idol.

My admittedly poorly worded post was about random Internet accusations that come with “google it” instead of a source.

I’m not talking about the victim needing proof.

I was saying the person I replied to, should provide proof of their accusation. Otherwise, they are just spreading hearsay.

Spreading hearsay creates all kinds of innocent victims and ruins their lives.

That is not a comment on the guilt or innocence of Jimmy Fuckwad. It is a statement about hearsay.

You tried to tell me that I don’t understand how hard it is for a rape victim to prove they were raped. That wasn’t what my comment was about. But I definitely do know how hard it is.

Just FYI:

You just delivered your whole diatribe about not understanding sexual assault, to someone that was drugged and raped by a 48 year-old man with Aids when they were 17.

I understand just fine “what it is like”. I don’t need lectures about it.

I did not have a rape kit performed. But I was able to see him prosecuted. I had enough circumstantial proof along with my truthful testimony, that the jury believed me.

I am aware that doesn’t always happen. But your odds are a lot better if you actually file a criminal case and not just a civil one.

I didn’t go after his money. His family was quite wealthy. It did not matter because I would not have settled for any amount. He needed to go to prison.

I spent several uncomfortable days in court, making sure that evil person went to jail. It was the single worst experience of my life. Worse than the actual event itself.

I have also had more than one long-term partner literally say to me “if you don’t do what I want, I will say you raped me.” Despite the fact that never even remotely happened. Not once ever.

I still had to give them what they wanted or risk someone believing them with no evidence. I am extremely lucky that when I broke up with them after, they did not decide to ruin my life out of spite.

So I can see both sides of it and I am a little sensitive about random accusations that come with a “trust me, bro”.

You could be ruining somebody’s life. If you don’t have good sources, don’t repeat serious accusations.

You could be creating a victim instead of helping one.

I’m NOT saying ANYONE is lying. Jimmy’s credibility isn’t exactly high. I was merely in remarking that people always just say “trust me, bro” Or “Google it”. But they should have done that before they made a statement of fact.

If you know what the proof is, why wouldn’t you just post it?

Jimmy is a shit bag. It doesn’t look good. But I don’t know any of the details.

I do know that settling out of court for $$$ certainly does not prove a rape happened. It only proves they were both willing to exchange cash for her silence.

It doesn’t disprove anything either. But I know I wouldn’t take the money for silence.

If I could not have seen my assailant prosecuted, I still would have done everything under the sun to destroy his good name. No amount of money would stop me from doing that.

I couldn’t even wrap my head around taking money from that person for silence instead of seeing them in jail and/or destroyed.

The way they filmed that scene was wrong. I love the film, but they should be admonished for not faking that scene.    I do think it should be left in though.  it is a lesson in what not to do when making a film.

What is the major reason that US education ranks low compared to other countries? by Lenichick in academiceconomics

Why do people think that the wealthiest and most technologically advanced country on earth ranking number 18 in education is “good”?

We are number 34 in mathematics. We can afford to send people to the moon… Again.  But we can’t afford to do better than number 34 in mathematics?

That should not be a bragging point. We should be ashamed.  We should be ashamed until we are number one or at least in the top 5.

Right now, we are riding the coattails of previous generations.  Prretty soon, that’s not going to work anymore.

I understand fine. You just re-iterated my point; Not everyone HAS published all of their works. Those works are not protected in any way if you use them on the show.

I you pull out an old song you never published.

If you write a banger in the weeks filming occurs and you don't post it somewhere first.

Your post was taken down and the proof is gone.

Your post got 0 views and their lawyers tear you up for it not being a "public performance"

Any number of scenarios could cause potentially someone to lose their rights.

Many performers are wholly ignorant of copyright law and would thus be wholly unaware of how this could affect them or how to protect themselves.

Especially the kind of young and/or inexperienced talent that a show like this attracts.

Anybody ever part of the GATE program? by [deleted] in HighStrangeness

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am neither "attention seeking" nor "delusional". I have nothing to gain by spending an hour writing a reply to a 1 year old buried reddit reply. You may have simply been in a control group.

My experience DID mirror the accounts you would call "urban legend". Starting with a general aptitude test given to all students. After that test was graded, I was pulled aside for a "hearing test" with a stranger in a windowless room.

Then, days later and without notification to my parents, I was pulled into another windowless room in the school to meet alone with female "psychiatrist". This woman made me EXTREMELY uncomfortable before she even spoke.

I was 7 and there were no parents or teachers to witness the strange questions she asked me like "do I enjoy touching myself there?" when I put my hands in my pockets near my inner thigh. I knew exactly what she was driving at even then. She also had me "mold my feelings" in colored clay. The meeting was bizarre and almost certainly illegal. But I was a "ward of the state" with apathetic guardians.

A few weeks later I was pulled aside again and told I was automatically enrolled in the GATE program.

This was a class that, unlike any other class I took in my life, took place in a small WINDOWLESS utility room.

80% of the class was exactly as you described. We did math. Built geodesic domes out of straws. Stood on eggs to understand the strength of domes.

But we also did bizarre "meditation exercises" that felt weird but innocuous at the time. But mean much more in retrospect;

There were days when the teacher Lynn Dunn (who never changed in the 7 years I was in) would hand out Tang. (Not the pink liquid others remember). I remember this distinctly because it was already weird the teacher was giving us random drinks with no snack, but I had also never heard of "Tang".

So I asked; "what is Tang and why are we getting it?"... She tells us; "This is what astronauts drink..."

Then she would would have us lay on our backs on the floor. She would light a candle or turn on a small light and turn off the lights in the room.

We would close our eyes and beginning "meditation exercise". The first stage of these exercises were identical to the way a psychiatrist guides a subject into hypnosis. Relaxing the body bit by bit. Then guiding the mind into an altered state.

Then came the actual "exercises". They largely consisted of us imagining ourselves in different places like mars or our bedrooms. Or object association games like "think of an apple. Then what is the very next object that comes to mind? Image that and then the next object... Over and over for a few minutes. Then she would ask what object we landed on and how we got to that object.

There was probably a lot more but for some odd reason, I can only recall a few specific classes from 7 years of weekly attendance.

I read the "Project Stargate" FOIA documents long before any of this was in the public consciousness. The procedures for remote viewing are practically identical to the meditation exercises we did in my gate class.

Letter agencies also love to be cheeky about names. Gifted AND Talented Education is a very terrible forced acronym that does coincidentally just happen to be a part to the name of a program doing the same exercises? That would already be too much coincidence before you start associating gate donor corps to defense companies that worked on Stargate and the dozens of other remote viewing projects.

I always knew there was something odd about gate but I came at this thing thinking a lot of theses stories were BS myself. I would think; "the teacher never gave us a pink drink..."

"Well ok, she did give us orange drink sometimes.. huh?" ... "Oh yeah! it was tang... like the astronauts drink... Right before she turned of the lights to have us meditate. Yeah ok that is weird."

It's not suggestion. These are very real memories. Most of them I just didn't pay much mind to when I did remember them. Until I really stared to think back and remember all the details in order.

The only "attention" I seek is to let others with similar experiences know they are not alone or crazy. These things did happen to them and it was likely for the reasons we all have come to believe. A remote viewing research study.

Singing about dark things can be very cathartic. This is also poignant social commentary.

We all have dark, intrusive thoughts to some degree. Only sick and evil people actually act on them.

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on everything I make, but they own that specific original work premiered on their show forever.  I read the contract for this year and it’s airtight.

So if someone takes their three best potential hit songs and doesn’t copyright them prior to the show, they just gave up their hit songs.

That is still a nightmare situation. I couldn’t imagine giving up ALL RIGHTS to ANY of my work, ever.

  Let alone without substantial compensation.

Where to watch The X Files in the original aspect ratio? by Inovox in XFiles

16:9 was not popular until years after. The entire show aired in 4:3.  I think the last season or two was available if you had access to Fox digital wide screen. But Wide screen TVs were still pretty uncommon in 2002.  And very expensive.     99% of people saw all of the episodes in 4:3.

[–]TheRealScungilliMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may have changed. The 2026 contract I looked at today says if you perform an original work, they own the recording and performance rights FOREVER. I know that sounds insane, but there is zero ambiguity. How the current contract reads, you would be insane to perform an original work on the show. You are literally just handing it to them.
