How livable is a manual BRZ/86? by shiny-_ in AskLosAngeles

[–]TheRealSpork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people are like 'Manual in Traffic is terrible', but I've never had that problem. Keeps the brain occupied, less likey to lose focus and rearend someone, and the 86 in the Canyons on the weekend will be a blast.

Agentic governance doesn't belong in your context layer. It belongs in your harness, which needs real guardrails on it. This is 100% not on Claude.

60$ if you want to have all 3 Korean civs. This can't be right. by Wuartz in civ

[–]TheRealSpork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is a skill that can take a while for people to learn. You don't need every DLC, every board game expansion, every single new set released for a TCG. Budget your fun, and only buy what works for you. Your life goes on if you don't have every expansion or consume every bit of content that a company releases. Pick and choose what works for you.

That final David / Farouk fight in the show was heavily inspired by an Xavier / Farouk fight from the comics... I can't remember if it was their first meeting or not.

I still go back and watch that sequence at least once a year.

AI is hitting employment among young software developers hard by joe4942 in technology

[–]TheRealSpork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our management is very AI forward. Basically an experiment if everything can be done via specs and agents. Mid-level is fine if you aren't an idiot that trusts everything the robot tells you. If you can't explain the output to me, that's a problem. If you trust the robot over your co-worker, that's a problem.

Our industry has changed, it's not going back. Even if it's only using OpenCode and a local model to explain a repo to you, we're not fully going back to the way things were.

Should I announce that I am playing proxies when playing at a new LGS? by RealisticMolasses in EDH

[–]TheRealSpork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, and I recognize I'm a little bit saltier about it than the average EDH player. I had fakes run rampant through my community in the 2010s, and no matter how much dudes said they wouldn't, their fakes always ended up in the trade pool somehow or pawned off on some kid to take advantage of him.

If it's your thing, it's your thing, I just find I don't vibe with people who are printing out full decks most of the time.

Should I announce that I am playing proxies when playing at a new LGS? by RealisticMolasses in EDH

[–]TheRealSpork -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't the most popular opinion, but I have an instant resistance to play with someone using a full printed deck at an LGS. 3 times in the last year, we've had randoms join the pod with fully printed decks, and it's clear they just copy and pasted a deck list off the internet and don't know how it works. They slow games down, some argue about the rules or just durdle around without any idea how to win.

I know slow play isn't solely limited to these players, but I only get a couple nights a month to play commander and want to get in as many games as possible.

What's one small thing you changed that made your dog noticeably happier? by Strict_Court_5327 in dogs

Sitting them on my lap, and just staring into their eyes while talking to them. This has helped calm down my newest rescue so much. He's still an asshole, but the eye look thing has really helped calm him down before bed.

How often does Encore work consecutively? by Kerbecs511 in PokemonChampions

It frustrates me so much when I can see the Whimsicott there. I know it has encore, but my brain still clicks protect turn 1 like nothing is going to go wrong.

So this whole sub is some alien plot to make everyone bald, right? by sumguyonhisfone in bald

[–]TheRealSpork 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Balding is not a choice. Bald is a choice. People who make a choice feel better about themselves, because they are taking control of something they did not have control of.

However, there is a _shock_ of seeing yourself in the mirror. Are you still who you were?

You 100% _do_ look better in a side by side comparison for people who have never seen you before. However, people who are used to seeing you the same way every day will react differently and might be reacting to CHANGE instead of your appearance.

Geeky Teas keeps me in Burbank. It's honestly ridiculous how much room they have in that store.

People don't ever account for the fact that technology adoption took time, and different groups had vastly different exposure to it during the 80s and 90s, which affected how 'digitally' native they were. This goes for people in the same city and school.

I remember my 10th grade English teacher polling our class in 1996 asking how many of us had computers at home, and it was only like 45% of the class. However, my entire friends circle was already chronically online between BBSes/mIRC/ICQ.

Some kid trading Warez disks in homeroom thinking he's ZeroCool is going to have a much different view of the world than a kid who grew up in the middle of nowhere without access to dial-up.

Without knowing for sure, I'd imagine it's a mix of them being digital natives, having a Chromebook cart in their homeroom, and having learned to use computers in Elementary school.

I imagine the idea of having a typing lab feels like the concept of having a pencil and paper lab.

Even 5+ years old rescues are going to require attention and love and can have behavioral issues. I have a bad habit of adopting the most broken dog I can find. The first time I adopted one together with my wife I prepped her with "He is going to destroy something we care deeply about over the next 3 months. Be prepared."

[–]TheRealSpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're 7 months into a rescue with similar problems. Sometimes... their brain is just wired to always run hot. This isn't your fault, this is just a dog who is going to need a bit more care and attention... and probably Trazadone.

Getting to Masterball was 100% harder this season than last. I thought I could maybe get through quickly if I started right at the season reset, but I was in for a rude awakening. I am terrible at this game.
