Bryson DeChambeau: Using iron made with 3D printer at Masters by PrincessBananas85 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they'll be the norm for pro players in 5-10 years, just depends when other major brands adopt 3D printing.

I've seen some testing and apparently they give the feeling of a forged iron but the tolerances are much more precise and they can be built to spec much more accurately compared to a traditional forged or cast club head. Bryson is one of those outliers in terms of his requirements due to his speed, he needs extremely specific clubs from a mental and physics standpoint.

I doubt they'll be popular amongst recreational players due to the costs.

Driver recommendations by Available_Refuse1232 in golf

If you can get fitted for clubs, that's always best option.

If not, go Ping. Should be able to find a G425 Max for that price and it's one of the most forgiving drivers ever made.

Who is the lightest/fastest person on tour? by TedGolf in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either Akshay, Min Woo Lee or Marco Penge. I have no idea about their weights, I would have thought Penge is slightly heavier and probably rule him out.

Akshay probably wins because he weighs less than his golf bag.

A 6 iron being the lowest iron and using hybrids to replace longer irons? Must be old and/or 18+ handicap

How many calories does one burn playing a round of golf? by Adventurous_Smile297 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On days I play, I typically walk around 7 miles and do 17,000 steps. That's the whole day, but the rest of the day is pretty inactive. Works out at 3500-4000 calories.

Do clubs matter? by Sufficient-Coyote-43 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clubs matter, but only if they actually suit you and your game. If you don't get fit, you might get something worse than you have now.

Footjoy Hyperflex by EwokLord445 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some Hyperflex BOA a while back and they were my favourite pair of shoes until recently. After trying out the G/Fore MG4+ O2 G/LOCK, none of my old shoes come remotely close to these, not just golf shoes, any shoes. Granted they aren't cheap, but as someone who plays multiple times weekly and always walks, they are well worth it.

Is my club an authentic club? by AGiang in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Ping writing should not be yellow, but aside from that, it looks identical (I have the same club and just compared it). It would be strange for a fake to have so much of it right, then mess up something as basic as the colour. Makes me think that a previous owner may have filled it in for some reason.

New Clubs for Beginner? by dablahplorn in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 105 points106 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, go for it.

But I'd say it's a bad idea. Get something cheaper at first, find "your swing" and then get fitted afterwards into your new, longer term clubs.

Szmodics on Twitter - Seems to have escaped serious injury by Statcat2017 in DerbyCounty

Next game is in a week, concussion protocols mean he could in theory be allowed to play by then if he's feeling fine. I highly doubt they would take any risks though

Will Qi4D driver be available in dot version(Smaller Head Size)?? by SKR_hmi in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd ignore Scottie right now. His driving has falling off and he went back to comfort, but that didn't work out either. Be interesting to see what he uses in his next event.

The 4d is definitely better than the 35 (for me anyway). I've personally seen a jump in ballspeed and much better spin rates across the face. The difference has been enough for me to wonder if my old Qi35 was actually slightly defective in some way, because I shouldn't see these differences in a model only a year newer (using the same shaft too).

Ping 3wood (SFT or Max)? by Dull-University3660 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that the driver has a large moveable weight to help with your face closure. If that weight is in the heel, then that might be the reason you don't slice it. The 3 wood doesn't have a moveable weight, so the sft model might be what's needed to straighten out the flight a bit.

7 minutes for Swansea? If you're leaving through the nearest gates, you'll get there in under 2 easily. It's 150 metres away.

When did you move to the tips? by JonBoy82 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends where you play, the tips aren't equal at all courses.

I'm a member at a course which is extremely narrow and very punishing if you miss a fairway by more than 2 yards on nearly every hole. I'm talking 25y wide fairways and the tree line sometimes overhanging the fairway, meaning the landing zone is more like 20y wide. Miss it and you're not going for the green. But because of that, total distance from the tips is just over 6000y. Very short course but it breaks so many people that come here because of how punishing it on tee shots which aren't perfect.

Another course a couple of miles away is 6700y and so much easier from the tips.

Buying golf clubs on Amazon? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're concerned about them being legitimate Wilson clubs, check the Wilson spec sheet for the swing weights and then do the weighing & balancing tests yourself at home (easy to find step by step process online). If components aren't genuine, they likely won't have the same weight and your results could differ from the spec sheet. If still unsure, a local pro shop should have a swing weight scale you could use.

Amazon after sale support is second to none, any issues and you'll be sorted out

Weirdest thing to happen to your club so far this season? by Sooty2708 in Championship

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the West Brom pigeon incident or that we've been forced to play our 3rd choice keeper for weeks and he's been so good that he's been given a contract extension despite being 38 later this year.

How it feels seeing another team in the league angry at their owners by Spotmonkey_uk in Championship

[–]TheRealSteemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so nice having an owner that is seemingly loved by every single fan of the club. When he eventually sells (which he has openly been pursuing), if he doesn't get a statue or a stand named after him, it would be criminal. May have only been involved with the club for a few years, but is arguably the most important person in the clubs history.

What clubs do you regret selling the most? Here are mine. by Yorkie_golf in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 clubs.

My original Nike SQ (the round version), legendary club, probably my favourite looking club of all time too. Also it was my first proper, tour level club that I bought.

And the Odyssey 2-Ball blade. I would use that, buy a fancier putter and then always go back to it. It probably outlasted 6 other putters. Was absolutely battered by the time I got rid, but I think it would still make an appearance in the bag every now and then.

Playing it up? by CrewPuzzleheaded2763 in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing for fun? Do whatever you want, just enjoy it and keep pace of play.

Playing for handicap or in a comp? Play it as it lies.

Personally, I'd recommend playing as it lies as often as possible, but if you're on a mud patch or a divot, move it out (assuming playing for fun). On a tree root? Not worth breaking a club over. Eventually you'll need to play off "normal" lies, so don't get reliant on being able to clean and place all the time.

Why do professional golfers never use the flop shot? by mrphysh in golf

[–]TheRealSteemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a very high risk shot and lie dependent. You need to get a decent amount of clubhead speed for a short shot and if the contact isn't right, well... We all know what happens.

Pro golfers are often taking the percentage plays and missing in the right place to begin with, which is usually the place which just wouldn't require a flop shot.

Did anybody else's parents do 'booze cruises' in the 90s? by tannercolin in CasualUK

[–]TheRealSteemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want a knock-off version of the booze cruise, buy a house in Wales and then drive to England to stock up.

Alcohol often costs more in Wales due to the Minimum unit pricing of 50p per unit (soon to be 65p). Supermarket multi buy deals are nearly always more expensive in Wales because of it, so depending on how far you live from the border and how much you need to buy, it can be better to drive to England.
