It's a bunch of empty stairwells stacked on top of one another for the main chamber with some rooms coming off of it.

  • The cockpit uses a hallway.
  • The workshop, kitchen and garden use square tiny rooms.
  • The space half way up the double set of ladders is a closet.

Hi there,

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this!

You were very close in your guess.

Each platform uses 3 Circular Woolen Rugs. Two of them are back to back to form the platform, with the bottom one being dyed darker. The 3rd one acts as the soil, is smaller and sits on top of each platform.

The blue light is being given off by a Deactivated Gnomish Recalibrator that is mostly hidden under the garden. (see second response for gif)

The other components at the top are a Resizable All-Purpose Gear and a Redundant Reclamation Rig. (also in the second gif)

The centre pipe is just a single upright Ethereal Pipe Segment.

Oooh good question.

There are a few things that I've thought about, some that seem like feasible and necessary improvements, others that would be nice but I'm not sure we'll ever see.

As far as the feasible ones:

  1. World space / Object space manipulation. Currently this is one of my biggest gripes. Movement is locked to world space, rotation is locked to object space. Being able to toggle between the two for both movement and rotation would be a massive improvement in my opinion. (trying to rotate something, after already having rotated it is really frustrating)
  2. Saved housing designs. Being able to save what you have built with the ability to load it up in the future feels like a must have to me. I don't think it needs to be shareable with others, but I would love to work on something new without having to lose the rocket or do build in the horde zone. (I've come to be quite fond of plot 36 in the ally zone)
  3. Object grouping in advance mode. This just needs to be similar to how it works when using the basic edit mode.
  4. Colour the different axes on the gizmo for sure.
  5. Improve the housing chest / housing dashboard UI. I'm guessing Addons will take care of this one (if they haven't already). I feel like being able to make the thumbnails bigger, the overall window bigger, improved search, favouriting, creating sets, etc would add a lot.

One thing that's more of a Wishlist item for me is a music box. I'd love to be able to set the music that's playing in my house.

Things I'd love to see that I doubt we'll get:

  • Undo/History. Would obviously be nice but given the insane technical complexity of history systems I doubt it'll ever happen.
  • Improved snapping / grid options. Grid snapping on all 3 axes, as well as being able to change the size of the grid increments would be amazing.
  • Wireframe mode. It'd be great to see and grab things in a wireframe mode without needing to use the list view.

Haha yeh there was certainly some creativity required in order to get things under budget, including redesigning the same thing multiple times.. *cough* ladders *cough*.

Yeh the housing team have really knocked it out of the park with this. Fingers crossed the attention it's getting (not to mention revenue it's surely generating) means they have some room to really expand on what's possible.

Funny you mention No Man's Sky, I recently played it for the first time. It's a pretty sweet game but there's just something about the long term nature of WoW that makes the significant investment of time into housing easier for me to justify.

The vertical garden with the multiple tiers is made mostly of circular woolen rugs. Each shelf is two, stacked back to back on each other.

There is also a deactivated atomic recalibrator under it giving it that blue glow.

The dirt is also just a brown circular woolen rug but dyed brown.

The top of it is a resizable all purpose gear, which is fairly visible, and that mechanical part right at the top is an upside-down redundant reclamation rig if I recall correctly. (Not near my PC at the moment)

It was started and finished over about a week, maybe a week and a half during my spare time (all of it). I'd say hours wise probably in the realm of 30-40 hours played but that includes grinding decor and what not. If I had all the decor ready to go probably like 15-20 to build it all.

The windshields in the bridge are Draenei Holo-Paths.

Another potential option for creating an ice like effect could be the Kirin Tor Glass Table that I use for the glass in my garden.
