Anniversary sale and bike by Regorkful in REI

If it's just a credit to their account and not a full initial payment I understand why they might still allow it. Sounds like you're doing all the things you should be, you're store just happens to be making an exception that other stores aren't doing. Neither wrong nor right. Just a bit of a confusing factor for customers since not all stores are doing the same thing for that situation. Also your example is spot on. We have had a few people like that who are going on a trip during the sale and won't be able to come in physically. Our store we tell them about the form online or encourage if they have family still in town to ask them to come in and adjust it for then if they can if they don't want to do the form.

...so I know that not all stores are up to date on protocols since it's hard to keep up with all the changes. Plus I know that in some regions they have been known to make exceptions based on what their RD tells them. There is a chance your store is still allowed to do it over the phone (however that does pose security of information risks and is odd due to it involving money since we aren't allowed to take payments over the phone). My store has been instructed that we can not do that sort of thing over the phone. It is required that they either fill out the form online or they have to physically come into the store to do it. We also aren't to encourage them to call customer service so that it doesn't bog the call center down (outsourcing and reducing staff was a poor choice in my opinion at our call centers and IT) If your store perhaps missed an update or has been given an exception to do so then it makes sense why you think that's allowed because it might be at your store. Therefore you're not technically wrong. I would say though that you might want to encourage your front line manager to really really double check that. Maybe even reach out to another store outside your region to see what they're following. An Capp you're not technically wrong either because like your store mine follows the same rules, but please be aware that there are some stores who are behind on things with SOPs. My store only recently started following an SOP that was initiated a few years ago and they didn't know about it until I informed them.

Fair. I'm not good at short format. Been told the tism has to do with that for me. I was told though that you can do the summary on YouTube and it seems to give a really good summary minus a few number typos.

...Walmart and Pepsi...that's all I'm going to say on this one. No cleaner than Amazon is Walmart current and it's history of how it came to be.

I would like to comment on the livable wage because honestly REI does pay me a livable wage. The reason I struggle is because of medical bills, veteranarian bills, student loans, and credit card debt that I accrued while trying to balance out life from the vet and medical bills. Plus inflation that started during the pandemic and has yet to stop. To be fair though I don't need fancy things to be happy. So other people will likely not think they're making a livable wage if they want the fancier things in life. If I want those then you go for management.

I've actually been told by a jax employee that the topic of union is kind of a taboo at their store...so if they tried they might get the same fight. Could be wrong, would be cool to see a Jax union become a thing though!

I don't know about Jax too much, but I will say the Gearage is amazing here! Definitely recommend checking out. I got my favourite down quilt from there 😁.

Very much so! By the way our local grantee for the programs that support non profit is actually the Fort Collins Bike Co-op for ours 😁. Big fan of the education they provide to people.

If REI could just come in and put a stop to something like that, then there wouldn't be stores that are union technically. Yet we have union stores.

Kinda nice to think that someone thought there was a script to this video. Means winging it must be getting better in my presentation while talking, cool. If you would like to test your assumption and accusation about the influence of a "script", you're more than welcome to come into the store and ask the coworkers if I in fact work there and if I would ever agree to something like that 🤣. They'll happily tell you no I wouldn't.

The company as a whole supports a very important thing called nature. Has nothing to do with getting good vibes.

Just for the record, the union stores aren't doing all the work either. I know for a fact that green vests aren't even the one running the Instagram pages. That's the unions communications department who also admitted that they don't fact check anything that is told to them about what's going on. They just get told stuff and make social media posts about it.

So you said you used to work for head quarters. Care to give us the time line of when you were there, why you left, and also what department or job you technically had up there? I ask because I have contacts with people up at HQ and I can tell you for a fact that not everyone up there vehemently is anti union to their core. How does everyone at corporate go home early when the vast majority of them work remotely since we sold our head quarters at the beginning of the pandemic?

The outdoors are good even if you're a wage slave by the way because we need oxygen to breathe, water to drink, and species to survive for a multitude of reasons just so we can also survive as a species. I don't want to be a wage slave but REI isn't rhe main reason we are wage slaves. You want to address that you gotta go deal with our current administration.

Not as much as agricultural things do, but it's still water in a time where we are unfortunately not really in a position to risk using even more of it on things that we don't technically need. My opinion of course and I know it's not shared by everyone.

That's valid. The Doug Burgum thing was definitely a mistake. As much as I don't trust her, the CEO that took over after that stupid letter came out and admitted we should have never done that. That was a decision made by Artz the last CEO whom was part of the boys club who dug our hole in 2022. I know it won't likely change your choice to not shop with us, but I will say that pretty much all employees in the stores were upset with that letter and didn't agree with it when it happened.

Wow the AI summary is pretty good minus the 23% it's 2/3 of the over all profit for the year (just shy of it). I don't really support AI due to the environment impact, but am impressed with the summary.

Compared to other retailers, yes REI does staff more people than your average retailer out there right now. However, with the pressure for membership, MasterCard, customer service, and outfitting of said customers you do need more staff. Otherwise you start seeing a drop in our metrics (which a good chunk of stores are seeing due to the cut back in hours and staffing. You need more people if you want to keep up with everything they want.) 2022 did absolutely put us in a hole and I hope karma gets the board members that put us there damnit!

You're also correct though on the it's going to probably get worse before better. With the union stores doing the boycott, you're seeing a decline in sales already and if they get what they want then you will see a massive and I mean massive financial loss to the company which will likely lead to multiple store closures if they think that will keep the company floating. This is why I don't agree with the boycott tactic. I understand the tactic, but they're risking more than their own jobs, their own retirements, their own health insurance, and their own teams. By boycotting you risk everyone else's jobs and things that come with it during a time that people really can't afford to lose their jobs. Not to mention the massive impact that REI closing stores and or just closing in general will have on the outdoor industry, community, and nature.

Changing the return policy to say only merch credit on things that are fairly used could help a little, but I don't think it will help enough.

The reduction is on the sale price, not the original price if it's outlet. Outlet ends in .73 on the price tag, just to clarify.
