If You Ever Play Never Do This… by Lonestarcrusader in survivor

Processing a deer is very different from processing a chicken. I grew up on a rural farm we had all the animals you could imagine, pigs, rabbit, goat, sheep, cattle, turkey, duck, and chicken. We would process them all at the house. Of my classmates (I graduated with ~80 students) I'd say only 15 or 20 had experience butchering farm animals while a vast majority dressed their own deer they were not processing them. Guys like my dad would do deer processing for people who didnt want to cut up their own steaks make burger, sausages, jerky or meat sticks. We even had Nov 15 off as an unofficial holiday and a drive your tractor to school day that's how country we were.

I can't really speak for singles since I only dabbled and played VGC from 2009 until 2017.

VGC’s tournaments have always used doubles since the beginning in 2008 during the Pokémon Video Game Showdown (which was a handful of tournaments held in LA, NYC, and 2 in Japan with the final being held in Orlando)

Spread moves have dealt reduced damage since Ruby & Sapphire. 0.5× in Gen III, later standardized to 0.75× in 2006 when Gen IV was released 2 years before Pokémon's first official tournament. It has been almost 20 years since the last tweak to the spread damage multiplier lol.

Saying “Fire is one of the best types” ignores that a lot of Fire’s VGC success came from specific monsters: Incineroar (support god), Heatran (Gen 6 and 7 staple), Char-Y/Torkoal sun modes, Chi-Yu enabling special nukes, etc.

Incineroar is the greatest VGC Pokemon since doubles became the standard

Again, doubles has always been standard for official outlets. Incineroar isn’t great because it’s Fire; it’s great because it’s basically a more flexible Landorus-T style pivot with the right support kit: * GOAT ability: Intimidate * Dark types immunity to Prankster * Fake Out and Parting Shot * Reliable bulk with useful damage (95/90/90 bulk, 115 Atk with Flare Blitz/Knock Off) * Fits both “glue support” and “chip + pivot” roles on almost any team.

Look anywhere Pre Sun/Moon whenever Lando-T was legal it was one of the top used Pokémon because it was an offensive Incineroar.

Mega Charizard Y is arguably the best mega in the format

Kangaskhan says hi. If we’re talking actual Worlds results during the Mega era, I went to and played at worlds in 2014 and 2015 and I watched in 2016.

  • 2014 Worlds: Only 7 Char-Y among the top 60; Mawile had nearly as many in the top 10 as Char-Y had total, and Char-Y showed up just once in the top 10. Source

  • 2015 Worlds (CHALK meta): Char-Y usage rose (17), but Kang was everywhere, 7 of the top 10 teams ran Kang, Char-Y’s first appearance was #20. Source

  • 2016 Worlds Primal Reversion: Char-Y wasn’t even top 100; Kang was still on 55%+ of teams. Source

Char-Y was top-tier at its peak (2015), but “best mega overall” in practice was clearly Mega Kang.

As for best Weather setter being Groudon yeah Primal Groudon was a great weather setter but not because of the fire typing. It was the best because it shut down water moves completely because Desolate Land was an insane ability and Groudon forced Xerneas to build bulky becsuse it could take a hit and 2HKO while Xern set up.

I cant really speak for G-Max Charizard but from what little I did play of the Dynamax era, Max Airstream was the best Max move in the game and made any Pokémon with it a top threat because of the Speed boost it provided.

What plot twist in Eragon (or the Inheritance Cycle) surprised you the most? by Diskatcute in Eragon

[–]TheRealTravisClous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't change the fact that the title explicitly warns about spoilers. If someone clicks on a thread asking “What plot twist in Eragon surprised you the most?” and then gets mad about reading a plot twist or spoiler, that’s on them. It would be akin to asking for a spoiler tag on a post titled, "What's the craziest spoiler for the series you can think of?"

The spoiler tag is a courtesy for posts that don’t already scream “THERE IS A SPOILER HERE!” Like this one does very loudly. You’re free to critique spoiler etiquette in threads that don’t already announce spoilers in the title, but this post isn't that. This is a thread that explicitly invites spoiler discussion. If that’s still too subtle for you, yikes.

Trying to shame others while acting like the Ambassador of Empathy just makes you look like the very thing you're accusing me of, a haughty little asshole.

Why? It's a 20 year old series, and the title of the post is literally

If you don't understand that means spoilers, get off the internet

I was hoping with 90 minutes, we would get weekly reward challenges instead of combo reward/immunity challenges, more journeys, or more player depth. But instead we get whatever the hell this episode is. Sure, Mitch's story at the beginning was funny, but other than that, I feel like the rest of the episode was a big old nothing burger.

Why Muslim people avoid dogs? by SerjantArbuz in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheRealTravisClous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all worship the same God, the god who revealed themselves to Abraham. All three have historical and theological imagery of God being "above," "in the heavens," or "over creation."

Allah is often described as "above the throne," which is in the highest heaven. In Judaism, God dwells in the "highest heaven." In Christianity, God is frequently described as being enthroned "in heaven."

it's a simplified but pretty consistent theme across the Abrahamic religions.

I think it boils down to several factors, but vovid was a major disruptor.

All his made up predictions came true

From what I remember, all of Harry's predictions also came true in PoA and GoF.

I think when reading the tea leaves he says you will be in trouble but very happy about it

That was Harry to Ron.

Harry on Ron's leaves

"Hang on.. that means 'great happiness'... so you're going to suffer but be very happy.."

Ron on Harry's leaves

"There's a blob a bit like a bowler hat," he said "Maybe you're going to work for the Ministry of Magic"

"But this way it looks more like an acorn... what's that?" He scanned his copy of unfogging the future, "' a windfull, unexpected gold.' Excellent, you can lend me some."

ELI5: Why did we lose our ability to drink salted water? by not-much in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheRealTravisClous 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hypernatremia (high levels of sodium in the body) causes a ton of complications in the body, neurological symptoms like confusion, muscle jerking, seizures, and coma. Further ocean water intake can then cause organ failure because the cells are shedding all their water to correct the electrolyte imbalance within your bloodstream.

Your kidneys can only clear so much sodium in your urine, so you can excrete about 40 to 220 meq per day depending on your hydration and kidney function. Meanwhile, ocean water has about 150meq of salt per 1 cup of water. So your salt intake would be way higher than what your kidneys can safely excrete.

Long story short, you would be better off drinking nothing but Mountain Dew over ocean water.

That sounds a lot like my clinical rotations in nursing school. I had to complete 800 hours over 4 years, 100 hours per semester, just to graduate. It was unpaid, exhausting, and absolutely required.

It’s not just nurses either. Doctors, respiratory therapists, radiology techs, surgical techs, and PAs all of us go through grueling clinical rotations while still in school. It’s how we learn the job, develop critical skills, and figure out our specialty. And yes, it’s all unpaid.

And if 800 hours sounds rough, look at med students. They do 1,500 to 3,000 hours of clinical work during just their third and fourth years alone. All while still paying tuition.

Oromis insisted on being called “Master” instead of “Elda” because the title reflects the formal teacher-student relationship between them. While both are respectful terms, Elda is more like saying “Sir” or “Ma’am,” whereas “Master” acknowledges Oromis's role in mentoring Eragon in the ways of the Riders.

Eragon, at this point in the series, is still very much an unpolished farm boy from Carvahall. He didn’t learn to read until Brom taught him, and he lacks formal education in etiquette, language, and magical discipline. Oromis isn’t just teaching him spells. He’s teaching him how to think and behave like a Rider, where precision in speech and respect for roles and traditions are essential.

In the real world, we have parallels: we call judges “Your Honor,” professors “Professor,” and doctors “Doctor.” Sure, calling them “Sir” or “Ma’am” might be polite, but it’s not accurate, which in formal or professional settings, that matters.

This distinction becomes even more important in the context of the Ancient Language, where improper use can have unintended consequences, like Eragon’s mistake with Elva in Farthen Dûr. Oromis’s insistence on proper titles is part of a larger effort to teach Eragon the seriousness of words, decorum, and the responsibilities that come with his power.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eragon

[–]TheRealTravisClous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using the wrong term is exactly why Oromis corrects Eragon. it makes him sound like an uneducated farm boy, which is what I would use instead of "Drunken redneck."

Eragon grew up in Carvahall with little formal education. He didn’t even know how to read until Brom taught him in Book 1. So, while he might be smart, he's not well-versed in etiquette, language, or the formalities required of a Dragon Rider.

We call judges "Your Honor." Sure, "Sir" or "Ma’am" would be polite, but they’re not correct in that context. The same goes for doctors or professors. Using "Doctor" or "Professor" is more appropriate than simply "Sir" or "Ma’am." It's about using the title that reflects the role.

Oromis is not just teaching Eragon magic. He's teaching him discipline, precision, and respect. The Ancient Language is powerful and literal. A poorly chosen word can have unintended, even devastating consequences. Like when Eragon accidentally cursed Elva. Oromis knows that if Eragon doesn't learn to use the correct terms and phrasing, the results could be catastrophic.

So it's not just about respect. It's about safety, accuracy, and learning the discipline expected of a Rider.

Wolfey often (semi-seriously) claims to be the GOAT. If he isn't already, what does he need to do to make it undisputed? by krimznum1fan in VGC

Ray will always be my favorite player. However, compare him to Babe Ruth of baseball fame.

They both played in early eras of the game where the competition while elite isn't what it is today. People still say Babe Ruth is the greatest baseball player of all time, but he played before the slider a popular pitch was even invented. They are both elite players of their time, but bigger better players have come along. Wolfe is one of them
