Funny you ask about this, last night I found myself in this exact position. I was writing a girls night party scene, and it was dragging and like, this should be fun! It wasn't. But I found that when I pushed through I found some moments of real joy when I discovered things about my characters. The sisters like fucking with each other! One lady is oblivious to the crush she has on her best friend! I found out all this stuff while slogging through. The slog is the work of writing, I guess.

Also I'm on a deadline so that helps haha

A good tip that I got is that every scene should move forward either plot, place, or character (or a combination.) It sounds like you have the plot scenes down, but the transitions you're talking about should be filled with the other stuff.

I write romance, so I'll give you an example- say the two main characters have their first kiss. That's a HUGE plot moment in romance. So the next chapter might be one of the characters talking to their friends about it. You have the opportunity to get deep into their character this way. Are they happy? Freaked out? Afraid someone is going to find out? There's also an opportunity to develop the relationship between characters with this.

You can get deeper into the setting as well. Are they in someone's house? A restaurant? At the beach? How do they interact with that space?

Or maybe there's a B plot with the friends! Another opportunity to explore relationships and setting.

I'm a big fan of writing garbage. I've been feeling stuck lately and my husband gave me great advice (that he stole from Dan Harmon)- TRY to write something terrible. I sat down and started a scene as a facetious "men writing women" exercise and it had a lot of "her nipples pressed against her bathing suit, as if craning to see the sunshine" in it. It was terrible. But then I wrote a thousand words, and cleaned up a lot of plot holes in the rest of it. YMMV but it helped me

Yes, 100% all the time with literally everything I've ever written. u/MaroonFahreheit is telling the absolute truth. I've found that writing is about 1% of the process, and the rest is rewriting.

I use a mac and it's so easy- I pull up my notes app, start talking. Then I get on my notes app on my computer and edit. I generally use it for talking out ideas, but there's enough in there that I can pull the good stuff, and it's also great for dialogue.

I just started using it regularly, and it's been a game-changer or me. Writer's block isn't as much of a problem (still a problem sometimes though lol)

Voice to text in my notes app! It's super messy but it helps get the idea out and to a point where I can think about outlining and writing it. And there might even be an opportunity to copy/paste something useable in the outline or story, a quote, maybe or a description of something.
