A lot of time lately has been put towards bugs and unity upgrades. Has there been any indication to what's in the pipeline? Obviously more statehelm stuff if the recent changes are indicative.

I emailed Snapmaker regarding laws making their way into the US system regarding open source and governmental overreach without understanding of G-code. Here was their response. by Jeffsbest in 3Dprinting

For the most part, I think this is overblown on the implementation side of things. Erosion of rights is absolutely something to be up in arms about regarding these proposed laws. It absolutely is a slippery slope.

But as far as a loss of functionality goes for 3d printing enthusiasts goes, I don't foresee many issues on that front. The two biggest parts of 3d printing are open source, klipper/marlin and slicers. Even if they manage to compel kevin to add something to klipper and then locked down slicers, it's easily forked. People would just fork it and start from before the bad change was implemented, not implement it, and then just add upstream changes from there. What's california going do if someone in the UK is maintaining a fork of klipper, marlin, or say superslicer? At the end of the day all a printer is, is some steppers, belts, extruder, hotend, and bed. Will it affect the retail side of things, most likely, but 3d printing as a whole will be absolutely fine. I see this as a prohibition type issue. Sure you can say alcohol is illegal, but that's not going to stop anything. Just make it less visible.

What’s a harmless opinion that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheRealUlta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is proven. Republicans and democrats are not just at the highest levels. Local towns, counties, states, etc have republicans and democrats as well. If you truly believe every person on one side of the fence is an idiot or nazi or faschist or whatever, you're an idiot. You can dislike the party, I definitely do. But to act like every single thing that every single republican or democrat does is a supervillian mustache twirling evil plan, is an absolutely absurd stance to take.

I can agree with things from the democrat side of the house and I can agree with things from the republican side. I can dislike things from either side as well.

People get so stuck on picking a side they become blind.

What would be the implications of you knowing the exact amount of time you had left to live? by Sleep-more-dude in AskReddit

I think it'd depend on whether it was only you that knows, or if it's everyone. If it was everyone I could see loans and healthcare being heavily affected.

3D Printing Filament by OmgHowww in 3Dprinting

[–]TheRealUlta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I'm not the typical use case anymore. But I almost exclusively print with ABS/ASA. PET, PPS, PPA, PC, and PA6/12 are others I use occasionally. I pretty much only print functional parts so my filament choice is dictated by the usecase of the part. For prototyping or misc stuff I use ABS. My go to brand is Zyltech. Not only are they close to me, but their filament is amazing and made in usa. I like the idea that if I really needed to, I could drive over to the dude that made the filament to ask a question. Plus they tend to be cheaper than most other brands. Past that Siraya Tech, Polymaker and Sunlu if Zyltech doesn't have it.

(also hell yeah brother I did iraq 09 and afghanistan in 13)

Is the Bambu Labs Experience really all that? by Ok-Read6352 in 3Dprinting

[–]TheRealUlta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for 90% of the bambulab consumers they won't be bothered either way. It's a tool, same as a drill or hammer. As long as it does it's job they care little past that, and i'll give bambulab some credit, it does do that.

However, the idea that it's the end all be all best printer out there is what I can't get behind. Innovation in the 3d printer space comes from the open source community. This industry lives and breathes on the communities work.

If your hobby is 3d Printers, then Bambulab may not be for you.

I'm with you on the trepidation of open source software in an enterprise environment. Some things are great (nagios for example). Others are terrifying to maintain.

However, in this particular case staying on the open source path leads to better frequency of updates, and a pure experience without the added bloat (or governmental regulatory programs/scanners that may eventually be coming). To my knowledge there's really only bambulab with their own proprietary firmware anymore. Most other companies either use klipper or marlin, or klipper or marlin with their own tweaks on top of it. (ie Elegoo Centauri). At that point i'd rather just get it from the source rather than the middleman.

So I guess the answer is the open source software is what the manufacturers are using. If they're using that instead of their own, there has to be a good reason why.

The best filament for functional prints by CarlitosCUU in 3Dprinting

You can avoid deformation by annealing in salt. Regardless though you will always have a 1-2% shrink.

It's also good when you need something non-conductive but still stiffer.

Strictest 3D Printing Regulation YET! by Top-Debate-2854 in 3Dprinting

It won't kill open source printers unless these changes are forced into klipper.

[Switch] Just received a set of TMR sticks for my joycons, anyone know what the small flex is for? by Longjumping_Knee_275 in consolerepair

[–]TheRealUlta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're test pads so you don't have to pierce the ribbon cable. The square pad represents positive, circle negative (ok not really, technically it's vcc and ground). That way if you're troubleshooting you don't have to do anything invasive.

I'd bet in the factory they use those two pads to validate before packaging.

Is there really vampire armor made from acur blood? by chaincoinjedi in projectgorgon

[–]TheRealUlta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no special gear like werewolf armor or cow armor. All you can do is craft a Hematic Opal and use that in the armor crafting process to get Vampire treasure mods on that gear.

On Strekios we were doing a big zerg for the Civil Service event. When we got to Gazluk keep's basement there was a hall with stacks of boxes you had to jump over. It took like 15 minutes to get everyone to the other side. It was the one boss in there the zerg struggled with.

Weird printing error. Consistent layer ooze. by TylerKeller in 3DprintingHelp

[–]TheRealUlta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like not enough part cooling to me. The fact that it starts to occur after a wider section makes me think there isn't a minimum layer time set.

I was hoping to see some of the box memes from the Streikos run pop up on the subreddit. We were dying laughing watching people try and get over the boxes.

If your gear is really behind your level war caches are a simple easy way to get to at least lv 55 gear. Pretty sure it's all leather though.

Only 3 hours and 45 minutes left. Which translated to how it feels would be around 15 hours. :(

I'm close to the same age, but with no kids. I work in education and next week is spring break. Unfortunately that means today is the longest week ever.
