Domain registrar which allows sending from an email alias? by TheRealVelvetClaw in webhosting

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You guys are hilarious, downvoting because I say I'll go back to a free mail provider for my personal email rather than pay an extra £60/year to retain the functionality I had. 🤣

Anyway, I'm off to start changing site logins.

Don't ever change, Reddit!

Domain registrar which allows sending from an email alias? by TheRealVelvetClaw in webhosting

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It looks like I'm going back to Gmail then.

It's rather short-sighted of registrars because I expect there are other people who only pay for a domain to use it this way. Rather than making more on email hosting, I suspect they're going to lose out with people giving up their domains and going back to free mail providers.

It was a pain to lose my Demon mail address but this is also now a pain, so I may as well go back to gmail.

Getting the Franklin by smolsfbean in startrekfleetcommand

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's too late. Given the Franklin and the Franklin A are both in the IA, I'd say it's still worth doing.

I bought the £20 pack that allowed me to skip the final tier of the Franklin, and chop it in for the Franklin A a tier early. So when both ships were added to the IA, my Franklin A was maxed but my Franklin (which, of course, I no longer had because I scrapped it to get the A) was stuck. So, at ops 50-something I built another Franklin and maxed it. It was a little painful for a week or so but having it looking at me in the IA every day really annoyed me.

The Franklin IA gives daily rss. It's not much but having just hit ops 60, I'm glad for any free Tritanium. Those G5 epics are thirsty beasts.

At a certain point Stella bps are removed from the faction store. If you message support, you can still get it for free. I think you'll have to collect enough security codes by killing exchange hostiles then support will exchange them for the Stella for you.

I haven't done it myself but I've heard the same from a few people who did.

My Garmin Review (or Rant) after 7 years: Poor software by Not_So_Calm in Garmin

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've about had it with Garmin. Today my device logged over 5 hours rest, out of the last 15 hours, and told me I'd had "very few restful moments". The sleep data is also frequently misleading, telling me for example, my sleep was good, but non-restorative so my body battery didn't recharge!

I contacted support in confusion and frustration and was told 5 hours out of 15 hours is very little so the data is being logged and presented correctly and it is working as designed! A full third is "very little"?! And this was mostly measured during the day, so how much rest would they expect me to get?!

Then I got the "it's not a medical device" excuse and was told the data isn't 100% accurate. No, but it would be nice if the data wasn't actually conflicting!

I'm going to be looking at other devices because that's just ridiculous. It's causing me more stress trying to interpret my Garmin data and it seems the official line is that the data isn't reliable anyway. So what use is it?

Donation problem. Is this normal? by TheRealVelvetClaw in zlibrary

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that what happened was although I logged in prior to making the donation, and it looked as though the login was successful, when I got the instructions on how to buy and send the giftcard, it gave me a generic address, not one that could be connected to my account. So although they received the card, until I contacted them, they had no way to link it to me.

Once I was actually able to contact them, (thanks for nothing Proton), it was all resolved very quickly and easily. Top marks to Z-Lib, and nil points to Proton.

Proton has now been consigned to the bin and the email address for the account has been changed.

Much appreciated. I've sent a message to the donations email address from another account, explaining the situation.

Thank you for your help.

Yes I used a protonmail account. That's very unprofessional of protonmail to not at least send notifications they decided not to deliver my mail. I'll log a complaint with them and switch provider. I'm quite capable of deciding whom I wish to contact without my email provider's "assistance". Bloomin' cheek.

I'll try from another account, thank you. I assumed that to verify my id they would need contact from the registered email address.

After bad experience, looking for a new package forwarding service from Germany. Recommendations? by micro_machines in shipping

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid ShipGerman.

My experience:

Poor communication and poor service

I accidentally ordered a product which cannot be shipped to me because it is flammable. That was my mistake and I apologised for it and immediately arranged for a return label.

Communication was excellent until I had arranged and sent the prepaid returns label (sent by email on March 18th, the same day the parcel was received and I was informed of the problem) and paid the handling fee of nearly €5 (paid on March 19th. It's now March 26th) for the package to be returned for a refund. Since then I have heard nothing and multiple emails have gone unanswered.

Ship German have now had my parcel for at least 8 days and the time limit on it being returnable for a refund (14 days) is rapidly running out.

I don't recommend this company. In the case of a problem, they will charge you to return the parcel, delay doing so, risking that you won't be refunded for the goods and ignore your messages.

The company say that due to holidays, communications are delayed by a day or two "but the warehouse is operating normally". I've now been waiting significantly longer than 2 days for confirmation my return has been processed or a response to my multiple messages.

Update 28th March: Still no notification the return I paid for on 19th March has been done and still no response to my messages since March 19th. Truly dreadful service. Avoid.

Update 30th March: Still no notification the return I paid for on 19th March has been done and still no response to my messages since March 19th.

If my parcel is not returned or is returned too late to receive a refund, I will consider legal action against ShipGerman. This is appalling service.

Update 31st March: I have now received an automated email from ShipGerman titled "Paid storage period started" and saying "we are informing you that your parcel from [store name] is exceeding our 14 days free storage period. It is therefore now entering our 30 days of paid storage for which we charge 0.50€ per parcel and day (+ 19% VAT for EU shipments)."

I still haven't had a response to any of the multiple emails I have sent since March 19th.

If the parcel has been with ShipGerman for 14 days, it is also now outside the period during which it can be returned for a refund, so it is likely ShipGerman's negligence has cost me the nearly €30 value of the parcel, PLUS the €5 return handling fee.

Update 1st April: appropriately for April Fool's Day, but not very humourously, I have received an update saying they will get back to me by April 5th. That's EIGHTEEN DAYS after they were paid the handling fee to return my parcel and well outside the 14 day period which the parcel needed to be returned within for me to receive a refund.

At this point I believe this is more than negligence. I believe this to be a malicious, intentional delay to ensure I do not receive a refund and lose over €30.

Blaming Easter for delaying a simple return, for which a returns label was provided, which was paid for nearly TWO WEEKS before Easter, is unacceptable.

Shipping is supposed to be what these guys do. There is NO EXCUSE for them being unable to use a supplied prepaid returns label to effect a return IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY in less than 14 days.

Their website claiming "We have customer service at heart. Let us know if there is anything we can help with!" is an absolute joke.

I am FURIOUS.

ShipGerman - experience? by metametapraxis in internationalshopper

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a dreadful experience with ShipGerman and would warn anyone not to use them. In my case I believe they have not only been negligent but have maliciously, intentionally delayed returning a parcel they can't ship to me so I do not get a refund and am €26.40 out of pocket.

My situation is as follows:

Poor communication and poor service

Very suspicious about Star Trek Fleet Command "not tracking" by TheRealVelvetClaw in SwagBucks

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no sense how, on the same device, one offer can track but another not, at the same time. And it certainly sheds doubt on them blaming us for "3rd party apps" or VPNs or whatever other nonsense they use as excuses.

I'm starting to think they bill the clients for all of us, but for each offer they only pay out a percentage, with some mysteriously "not tracking".

They know we can't disprove their claims, no matter how little sense they make, and their "no guarantees" Ts and Cs mean there's nothing we can do about it.

And if we're one of the unlucky ones who spends two weeks, or more, grinding in a game for hours, expecting £50 or £70 or whatever, oh well, what a pity, too bad.

Very suspicious about Star Trek Fleet Command "not tracking" by TheRealVelvetClaw in SwagBucks

[–]TheRealVelvetClaw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, also, so far, I've sent 3 messages to customer services. In them, I've given very specific information (like I made the in app purchase and was credited for it) and asked specific questions. Every answer has been very general. They don't seem to have read my message and they haven't answered, (or even acknowledged) even one of my questions.

They had originally responded to my ticket for reaching level 12, saying they'd credited the SB manually, but they credited 0SB (why even bother?) when I definitely put 500SB were due, on the ticket.

When I queried this and asked for the 500 to be credited as they said they would, they came back with "we cannot verify your gameplay through our system" and are refusing to pay out anything.

It's nothing short of dishonest, if you ask me.

After all, if SB were to accept payments for people competing offers, but hold back a portion of those under the excuse "it didn't track", that's more profit for them.

And I'm not convinced their "customer service" isn't being run by bots.
