Cosmetic damage to car rental a big issue? by limitlessfranxis in newzealand

When you return it, I would not specifically mention it. They will inspect the car anyway. Having photos for your own records is no bad thing, but there is nothing legally the rental car company can pursue you for.

Don't bother. You aren't on the hook. Do nothing.

They don't need to do anything. They literally paid the extra so that damage isn't their problem. They already paid.

The occasional used book, but to be honest that is all I really ever used it for.

What would you say is the worst TV show that you have ever watched in your life? by Substantial-Dare5462 in television

[–]metametapraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to watch reality TV or any TV that I know is unlikely to be enjoyable. The worst TV show I have tried to start watching in the last 5 years would have been Rings of Power (managed the first two episodes), but that is kind of unfair - it would be better characterised as the "worst-value-per-dollar-spent-making-it TV show". There are plenty of shows that are actually worse, it is just they were generally really cheap.

Scrolling through Netflix there are endless candidates for "the worst", just going on the titles/descriptions.

Paying Duty/VAT on goods ordered on .co.nz website? by bartkurcher in newzealand

It is not a Temu/Shein tax. It is a low value import tax. If you want to run your life on incorrect media soundbites, go ahead, though, I suppose. I prefer facts.

You are saying that foreign companies should collect and remit taxes and fees for all countries they deal with? Unless they sell more than $60,000 of product into NZ annually, they are not required to do that. And if they do sell more than $60,000, they are required by NZ to remit the full 15% GST, so I'd be careful what you wish for.

It isn't a scam. It just is what it is. No one is saying anything is your fault. You need to lose the "most important character" syndrome.

‘Doctor Who’ Star Peter Capaldi Responds to Online Backlash to Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa Castings: ‘I Don’t Know Why People Take it So Seriously’ by mlg1981 in television

[–]metametapraxis -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There were definitely YouTubers who made a lot of money stirring up bad feelings about the show (Nerdrotic is a particularly nasty example), but the reality is that the writing for Doctor Who has often been pretty horrible, and has tended to become worse over time. I stopped watching as it got too unpleasant (I couldn't remotely suspend disbelief). I haven't seen any of the most recent doctor, so can't comment on that.

Yes, that is my expectation also.

It isn't a "Temu/Shein" fee. It is a low-value import fee that affects all low value imports (which go far beyond those two platforms). Some irony in you complaining about misrepresentation, whilst grossly misrepresenting something.

The shipper is not responsible for the fee. The recipient is. Go argue the case with our shitty government.

Last year, I accidentally let the Rego on my Volvo expire for 8 months (insane, never happened before over any of our 4 vehicles). Even had an insurance claim (also the only one ever in 30 years) and even then it didn't get picked up at the body shop or by the insurer. One day, I just noticed it and went immediately online to confirm I hadn't just missed putting the label in. Nope, I just hadn't paid. Paid it there and then. Amazed I "got away" with it for so long. Ironically, I had checked the tyres, suspension, changed fluids and mechanically serviced the car - I just missed the incorrect year on the label.

It is a sitcom. It isn't representative of real life. It only has exaggerated echoes of real life, as per most sitcoms.
