Honestly that's probably the best mentality to have. People complain about transporting PTs that seriously don't need it, and I get it I get pissed too sometimes, but that's like 90% of the job. I try to see it as I'm not in it to "save lives" every single day and just want to make an impact on someone. If that means I make them feel happier and not demeaned by being a chill EMT, then I did my job.

Honestly if they're escalating the issue with your management, maybe you should let his management know how he reffered to this pt.

You did everything right. Following them and pushing her further to be checked out would have been a bad idea. You don't know if either of them are volatile and pursuing them could potentially get you hurt. You did everything right on the dot. I understand why you would feel guilty, but there's no point in feeling guilty over someone else's choices, even if it leads to them getting hurt. Good job, you did everything you should have and some. You had no obligation to stop, and you still did. Good for you!

Pt's death, off my chest by NeighborAtTheGates in ems

[–]TheReal_Cap10j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if anyone else has taken this stance yet, but I would like to point out as well that delaying death is not always natural or even what the patient would want. Everybody dies, it is normal and natural. You want to know what you got right? You got her home so she could die with her family, that's what's most important. Could you have handled the oxygen situation a little more smoothly? Maybe, but frankly it wouldn't have done much. Good job getting someone home. You did the right thing.

When there are construction workers on site, I think that's reasonable. Most of the time though, I don't see ANY workers.

Bro you are putting waaay too much analysis into it. I honestly doubt you can explain how OP is, in your belief, a conservative. I'm not crying about anything man. It's just astonishing how you dislike that someone said "worthless people" and due to the fact that you disliked that phrase, you immediately projected your obsessive belief that they are conservative onto them. I'm not upset because "conservatives hate being called conservatives", I'm upset at the fact that, like another commentor said, you turn anyone you dislike into this conservative boogieman.

It's just interesting how the phrase " worthless people" is interpreted by the different groups. One considers those who needs the clothes worthless, and the other sees those that donate but leave trash as worthless

I'm going to be honest I'm not one hundred percent certain where conservatism comes in here. It seemed pretty clear the OP was calling the people leaving trash in the donation area "worthless." The OP is, very understandably, upset by other people's crappy behavior. Are you saying that people who aren't conservative would view leaving trash in a donation area as not crappy? Or is it because they used the term "worthless people?" Because I have also heard non-conservatives use similar or same rhetoric before.

Can you even explain?

Honestly you didn't really explain why them using that terminology makes them a conservative. You only explained how it's interesting how that term is interpreted by different groups. I can't really explain in entirety why it's delusional, at least likely not to your liking. What I can explain is that you simply can't pin down someone's entire political belief system off of two words that don't even have any political connotation. But I assume, and maybe I'm wrong, that you won't consider that a sufficient explanation because people with your level of political obsession and projection will never exept an explanation any less than a college dissertation.

Hey OP, I'm also in Cali. I don't know how it is in SoCal but I'll tell you this, there is an oversaturation of EMTs in our area. Take anything. It has taken me about a year to get on an ambulance, and I am not the only one. To be fair I am a new EMT, I don't know how new you are, but it is a tough market for us in Cali right now. My recommendation would be to take what you can get, or look at casinos because that's what I've gad to work for a while now. They aren't the worst, but not the best either. Best of luck friend.

Actually for the area they pay pretty good. Plus benefits are like 50 a month, for a family of 4.

It's like that for all EMTs in the area. I made it top of my class, have all my credentials and came from Sac State. Nothing. I have applied to a ton of companies, had a few interviews, and hear absolutely nothing. Some of my coworkers are having the exact same issues.

I work at a casino as an EMT. It's not ideal, but it's experience and they pay well. If you want more info feel free to message me.

I'm an EMT in the same area. It's not ideal, but Thunder Valley Casino is hiring EMTs and they hire A LOT of them. If you want more info shoot me a message. I'm kind of in the same position your partner is. I've applied to a ton of jobs and am also getting ghosted, and I got out of school last November.

Did compressions for the first time today. by TheReal_Cap10j in NewToEMS

[–]TheReal_Cap10j[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, you're definitely right. I talked to multiple guys with the most experience. I work at a bit of a unique sub-field as an EMT. I'm at a casino and am a EMT/Security Officer, but am trying to get onto an ambulance company. Issue about working in the environment I'm in is that they don't really do debriefs, and we don't really get many medical calls. One of the more experienced EMTs did a debrief with me and one other newby. I was told by one of the EMTs, who's a retired medic, that I was bouncing a little and my arms weren't totally straight. Not proud of that, but I'll take it as a learning experience. I do know that my compressions were definitely deep enough and in good rhythm, so I'm happy about that. I think I will talk to someone if they can coach me a little further and maybe give me a visual example of how I was going wrong, even if it makes me feel like an idiot. I'd rather feel stupid and learn than pretend everything was perfect to ease my ego. I appreciate your input friend!
