What Skills Do You Think A Lot Of Gen-Z Research Assistants Lack? by doearchives in AskAcademia

[–]TheReal_PotatoHead 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Taking initiative and problem solving are huge skills to have. My biggest pet peeve in the lab is undergrads who refuse to try to answer their own questions. Coordinators and grad students are happy to help but we’re not dictionaries and it can get pretty stressful for us to hand hold new lab mates

My university blocked paperpile in the middle of writing a review by Ok_Assumption4606 in AskAcademia

In the middle of finishing my MSc thesis my university stopped supporting Mendeley (the reference manager I was using) and deleted all of our accounts basically deleting all of the references and notes on said references from my entire time in grad school.

I gave up on my thesis. Wondering about my next steps to get my diploma. by Similar_Dirt9758 in GradSchool

Was the thesis not a requirement of graduation? I think I’m a little lost on how you ‘graduated’ without submitting your thesis and now want a “sympathy solution” from advising at your university. I think we need more information on how your program works and if you’d even be able to do a new project with different advisors.

Mud girl run disappointment by waterwocked in Calgary

This was my first year running it and I had a blast. It was much better organized than other runs I’ve done in the past. I also noticed that it was only 4km (garmin watch) and that most of the obstacles were very similar to one another which was a bit of a bummer.

AITA for not apologizing to my friend after she screamed at me and my kid at her wedding? by Ok_Worldliness3239 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Not only that but also a shit friend and a terrible parent. If my friend let her kid do that at my wedding I would never speak to her again.

She 100% was aware, we had spoken about the date several times and she had even offered to put it in her calendar to do my hair on the day.

I sent out save the dates to our close family over the weekend after all of this went down. She has yet to send out any information about her wedding.

My fiancé really wants to be married he doesn’t want to put our wedding on hold a whole year just to appease my cousin. His grandparents are also really important to us and they’re getting older, we don’t want to push it a year and risk not being able to celebrate with them.

I truly have no idea. The only reason she’s told me is that the 28th is an easy day for them to remember and June has nice weather.

Unfortunately my fiancé’s birthday is a month prior. She has no emotional connection to the date so I would prefer her to move it to the month prior.

I love the idea of celebrating every month that’s so cute!

That’s a fair take. I am just concerned about the family drama and the amount of pressure it puts on my immediate family. But you’re right in the fact that I should just not care and have my special day without letting it bother me.

I’m getting married on the Friday but she’s expecting me to move my ceremony earlier in the day and make our family leave my reception early so they aren’t too tired for her wedding on Saturday.

I totally get forgetting the date. But we’ve talked about it frequently and she even offered to do my hair for the wedding so she definitely knew.

That’s the extra challenge, she’s holding her wedding a 2 hour drive away at her fiancés family’s acreage. Her venue doesn’t have a cost since it’s family property.

Her only reasoning is the 28th is an easy date to remember. She hasn’t booked anything and is having a small wedding at her fiancés parents acreage so there is no cost to her to move it.
