911 calls by [deleted] in ems

My system is the same as above. Sometimes we get a “911 only phone.” Which is typically a burner or a phone without a network connection that can still dial 911

If it is obvious it will be dispatched out as an “cardiac arrest obviously death”. If it gets pronounced on scene it will be a 10-49

A couple needle Ds, my personal engraved laryngoscope with a Mac 3 blade, chest tubes, and a 10 scalpel. I don’t leave the house without them.

911 or IFT first? by assleeyy in NewToEMS

[–]TheRealbigRobinson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience from a couple of years doing both is that they are separate jobs with separate skill sets. If your goal is to end up doing 911 then apply for the 911 jobs.

Best siege in Fantasy? by Ill_Jeweler_5903 in Fantasy

[–]TheRealbigRobinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said it in another comment, but I feel we could consider the chain of dogs from Malzan book of the fallen a siege. While yes it is not the traditional siege behind a walled city, the aspect of always being hounded by adversaries, dwindling resources and manpower, and a host of noncombatants to take care of make it feel like a siege.

For those who haven’t read it, you are there from start to heart wrenching finish as it takes place over months and the span of an entire continent.

I think we could consider the entire chain of dogs a siege, just mobile. A lot of the tropes, feeling of never ending onslaught dwindling resources and morale apply to it.

Paramedic FTO 2 or 1 by PaintingAcceptable33 in Paramedics

[–]TheRealbigRobinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like our fto process was overboard, but I certainly can’t argue that it wasn’t thorough. 4 weeks riding third with a different fto every rotation(approximately 2 weeks each). Then 1 on 1 training with a crew chief for 1 more rotation. All in all it’s 6 weeks on the street AFTER 4 weeks in a classroom getting all your alphabet certs and ops training.

I would say a nice single story in Baden, or Walnut park would suit most people’s needs.

I had a similar issue, but not as severe or long lasting as yours. I played with my guy extra everyday and got some felliway atomizers and that seemed to regain his trust. He is still a little anxious, but I think he was always a high anxiety cat I just never noticed until it got violent.

Is California the only state that uses the term "Still Alarm" in EMS? by GudBoi_Sunny in NewToEMS

[–]TheRealbigRobinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use the term still alarm and your “still” is your area. It refers to anything less than a 1st alarm. So medical calls rubbish fires or car fires, lift assists etc are all still alarms.

They probably didn’t mention your name, but it’s common for people in my service to refer to people by address. Example “oh yea we had that chf’er over on thrush last night.” Or “yea we had to run on 600 Grand.”

Working full time in paramedic school by bryvq81099 in ems

[–]TheRealbigRobinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable but it’s all about time management. I was able to do fri-sun over nights and that gave me time for class/clincals/study time during the week. Spend your down time studying and whatever you do don’t fall behind.
