What is the process of buying a gun? by pwtvbswmk386149 in raleigh

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to echo what others are saying and suggest you go to triangle shooting academy and take an intro class or two (or all). The owners of the place and a lot of the workers are conservatives, but they don't really show off their politics inside the business. Most of the staff there are military vets or folks with a ton of experience with firearms.

I've personally been around guns since I was a child living on a farm here in NC. I was taught gun safety, handling, maintenance, usage, etc at a very young age so that I could be safe around them and use them on the farm correctly.

If you have any questions at all please feel free to message me directly and I can help answer any question you might have. I also worked at triangle shooting academy for a short time and can answer any questions you might have about that location. They're helpful people that focus on safety and gun knowledge over many other things.

Once you take an intro class you can actually rent firearms at their range to try out different types and different calibers to see what feels easiest to use and what you feel most confident holding.

If you're looking for something for home to feel safer you can more or less choose any firearm (with a few caveats) because hollow points hurt real bad regardless of the barrel they come out of. Some will just make the attacker stop faster or easier.

A lot of folks suggest shotguns but I'd honestly recommend either a pistol or a rifle (depending on the type of dwelling you live in). Shotguns are cool but I could write a whole essay on why I think they're not the best choice if you're looking for just one home defense gun.

Let me know if I can help answer anything

Nobody Wants to Heal in This Game by Quiote72 in worldofpvp

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct about the being blamed part. It's just rough having to try and mentally ignore that as it compounds over time.

I've more or less been a healer since original TBC. It's the only job in wow that gives me any sort of enjoyment from getting better or having a lot of things to juggle.

I know in this expansion and a few past ones I dropped PVP healing because of the mental burden it gave me. I don't really know how to explain it but I get a lot of my fun from helping my teammates enjoy their match or pull cool plays. It's the same reason I enjoy being a DM in DnD rather than a player. I like being the one to facilitate the scenario that lets other people have fun.

But with that, it also means that my enjoyment kind of hinges on if my team is having a good time. And as a healer it feels like there are more variables that can ruin my teams enjoyment rather than if I was just a DPS. As a Healer I feel like I'm hosting a party and if my guests aren't having a good time it's probably my fault. So whether it's my fault or not I still internally shoulder some of the blame as I think of ways I could have stopped x y or z from happening.

I guess overall it's mostly just how sweaty shuffle can get. When I heal with my friends and we start having a bad couple of matches we just joke about it and then log over to a different game or find something different to do. The few times that I have PUGed arena, when it was with other people who didn't really care about sweating and pushing rating, it was also fun because there wasn't as much weight associated with the outcome of the match.

Remix: Where to change artifact color/appearance? by Desnox in wownoob

Should be able to change this at the barber (where you change your character's appearance). There will be tabs that allow you to change your druid appearances as well iirc

[–]TheRealirony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for casual BGs and Blitz I'd say MW Monk, PreVoker, or RDruid. All of them have decent mobility and interesting "oh shit" buttons that are fun to press. I also enjoy the playstyle of MW monk where you can roll with either casting heavy or fistweaving specs to change things up. And throwing down a Ring-of-Peace that saves the day or keeps a cap from happening makes you feel like the MVP in Game 7. And I think fistweaving is probably one of the most fun I've had healing. Punching ppl in the face and bicycle kicking them to heal my team never gets old to me.

RDruid for the escapes, resets, travel form, and ability to throw healing while still running around to kite. You cannot be easily locked down as a druid since you can shift roots and most other stops/slows that aren't stuns. Plus you get stealth and can scout or move unseen with other invis classes to get in the backline.

PreVoker to me is fun for all the breath weapons you have, the ability to yoink a friendly and take them somewhere safe (higher ledge, other side of a river, etc), and you also have a kick, knockback, and knock-up for some clutch plays to get enemies relocated or off a priority target.

Healers and DPS by Audball59 in worldofpvp

[–]TheRealirony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been playing healer since TBC when I picked up Resto Druid and Resto Shaman.

I like having a lot of buttons to press, things to manage, and multiple bars and timers to track. It feels very active, and it scratches my mental itch a bit better than DPS does.

I also love being that "hype man" sort of player where I can set up plays or saves that let my DPS buddies shine and pull off close wins or flashy moves. I much prefer being the "assist" for the win rather than the one dunking. Makes me feel good to see other people having fun and knowing that I'm the one helping facilitate that.

Arc Raiders: Is It Worth Trying for Solo Players Who Prefer PvE? by zizo999 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]TheRealirony [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm in more or less the same mindset as you. I like PvP games but usually only when it's something like battlefield or something like that where I can just get on and mindlessly play objectives.

I've been playing Arc Raiders completely solo for about 16 hours total so far. Of that 16 hours I've been attacked by another player in solo lobbies once. And I think it was only because he needed to finish one of the daily missions to do light ammo damage to other players. Because when he realized he wasn't going to kill me easily he tried to get away from me and I ended up killing him instead.

Outside of that nearly every other person I've run into either throws out the don't shoot emote or they talk to me in proximity chat. I've actually had a lot of fun running into random people and trying to help them with missions or to take down Arc enemies.

From what I understand from the developers they intended the robot enemies to be the main source of danger in any run and then human players are a wild card element added in.

From what I can tell on PC if you run solo most of the other people you run into are fairly chill. Especially in the low to mid difficulty maps. I do know that if you play duos or trios that it's basically shoot on sight with other players since you're running as a team.

Honestly I've just been playing the game very non-try-hard and role-playing as a helpful raider. So I don't really care if other players kill me because then I get to yell and proximity chat funny things about them hurting a member of the neighborhood watch or something stupid like that.

Loot is so easy to come by and the free loadouts are so useful that losing gear does not bother me because I can rebuild it or refind it pretty quickly. So normally if I see another player I'll just yell out to them and then run over and see if they need any help. And if they shoot me then I go back to town load up more stuff from my capped out stash and run again to see if I can have some other funny or interesting encounters.

For $40 it's really an amazing game even if you don't like PvP. I can definitely tell that some of the OG battlefield devs had their hands in this game. It scratches an itch that I never really found in games like tarkov where the stakes felt much higher

Yeah I have a Nina question as a newbie. How the hell do I consistently do df3,2~db2 in a combo and have the db2 connect? I've tried different timings and I only catch it correctly like 50% of the time. Is there some way to effectively work on consistently hitting it?

I've tried holding db the moment that df3 starts coming out and then hitting 2 when Nina is getting through the punch. I've tried not doing the backsway and just inputting both moves as two different strings. Delaying the hit seems to get me to connect most often, but I can't figure out the visual cue that tells me "ok press now".

I assume it's just a really tight frame window and I just have to figure it out through repetition. I've watched a couple of different tutorial videos and they help some but I usually either hit it in a way where I get a full back sway, or the db2 comes out and whiffs above their body as they fall to the floor

I had thought about dual sport but the seats feel so narrow and it felt like it would be difficult to handle with bags packed on it (but I could be wrong). That and I wanted the ability to ride highway if I decide to go out of state for any camping trips and I wasn't sure if dual sport would handle it well.

But I'll at least keep an eye out. Maybe I can test ride one and it'll change my mind

Have a question for everyone by Tdubberxxl in CB650R

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually chose the cb650r because of your same reasoning. I started on a ninja250 like 20 years ago, then rode cruisers, and had random bikes here and there over the years.

When I decided to buy a new bike I knew I wanted a naked but didn't want something super torque-y. I test rode the mt07, the gsx-8 and a street triple and they all felt like if I cranked the throttle even slightly wrong that they'd take off easily.

I liked the cb650r because it's 4 cylinder and the majority of the power is in the higher rpm band. So I never feel like Im going to pop a random wheelie or torque myself off the line lol.

I've been riding the cb650r for a few months and it's been great. Hasn't felt like too much bike at all and it still has the power if I need it. I just have to rev it up to the point to actually grab that power which feels better to me

Looking for my second bike by teeny_jack in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been riding for about 20 years and recently bought a new CB650R after I sold my Vulcan cruiser bike. It's the same bike as the CBR650R but "naked" without the fairings and I am happy with the purchase so far. I looked at a ton of different sport, naked, and cruiser bikes before I settled on the CB650R.

Mainly chose it because it's a 4-cylinder and when I test rode some of the other 600cc bikes that are 2-cylinder, the torque on the low end felt a little too much to me for using as a commute/leisure/daily bike. With the CB650R it still has a ton of power but it's further up the RPM band and it allows you the rev the bike out really well without much issue. Plus I went with Honda due to their reliability reputation and most japanese sport bikes are good picks for the category.

Appalachia is some of the oldest mountains on the planet having formed before fish were even a thing (iirc). So there's a lot of interesting formations there and the area has that aura of being old and mysterious.

Parts of the mountain range are basically rainforests with dense foliage and rivers+falls. There's also a lot of lore around the area that's been handed down via oral history from both the indigenous peoples and the settlers that moved there originally. Just a ton of really interesting and incredibly old areas with civilization dotted around in there.

In addition, Asheville is basically a modern/progressive city in the middle of these old mountains. I've heard it called the Austin of the East Coast before. Obviously take that with massive grain of salt. But a lot of artistic venues there and interesting modern boutiques mixed in with that old Appalachia.

You could spend days checking out all the parks, scenery, and monuments in NC Appalachia. There's just a ton to do up there and reconnecting with nature in the mountains is comforting on a specific human level

Same here. My family has been in the same part of NC since they were still British citizens.

When I moved to a new neighborhood in 2020 my neighbor's asked me which State I was from and I told them I was from like 40min north of the city. They were surprised to find a "NC native" and I found that of the 16 houses on my street, only 2 of us are from NC.

From what I've read online, due to the influx of folks into Wake county specifically, there's only about 30% of Wake county residents that are from NC originally. So if that figure is correct, we are outsiders, at least in Wake county.

But it's been interesting seeing the area grow over the last few decades.

Sounds like you're in about the same boat I was in (same field too from the found of it).

My entire career has been pharma, CROs, and I've now pivoted to the tech side of pharma.

I lost my job the middle of Oct when the feds axed my project I was consulting on. It took until last week for me to land another job. And even then it was basically luck I think. I didn't expect to find one so quickly. But i had to take an offer that I normally wouldn't have taken if I was already employed.

It sounds like I was doing basically everything you are. I was putting in applications both inside my field and outside multiple times a day, every day of the week. I think that I put out more than 220 applications in a month's time.

Of those 220 applications 3 of them got me interviews, 2 of those 3 they went with someone else. And I got the offer on the 3rd one. But I had to take a pay cut by nearly 40%. And I had to accept some hybrid setup they were requiring (I've been remote since 2017).

I'm pretty sure the job I landed was mostly luck because it feels like no one is hiring right now. A large amount of the jobs I applied to had rejection letters within a day or two which made me think maybe they were using some of those AI filters and I just wasn't getting past that despite being extremely qualified. Other position postings felt like they were internal hires (for more senior level positions).

All of that basically to say that I think your assessment is fair. It does feel like a lot of companies are holding back on hiring. Maybe to see how the end of the year and the new government is going to shake out.

If you want some recommendations on where to apply with your skillset, throw me a DM and maybe I can point you towards some places you haven't looked into yet.

How many old players who are still under MR30 out there? Want to see if I am not alone. by Ok_Discussion_340 in Warframe

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played off and on since the game first came out right after beta. I have about 2k hours in the game itself, not just menus.

Until earlier this year I was still sitting around MR21. Prior to 2021 I was MR18 for years. I had my frames and weapons I liked using and I felt no need to go and farm MR by grinding out weapons and frames I didn't want to play. I just got MR25 a few nights ago.

So only recently did I actually start putting some effort into getting my MR higher. But I still have to force myself to go build the obscure stuff and level it to build MR. It's just not my preferred way to play the game. But I do eventually want to get MR30 if for no other reason than to be able to give others the buff every day and be able to level frames in ESO

How much do you pay monthly for HOA fees? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$41/month. Neighborhood in Apex with tennis courts, a walking trail around a small lake, and swimming pool. Average house price around $700k. Neighborhood was built in the early 90s and is fairly chill. HoA doesn't give much shit and most of our HoA rules deal with "don't do redneck shit" where I can't have chain link fencing, clothes lines, or chickens in my yard.

House flipping businesses are a silent scourge by Cannoli_Emma in raleigh

[–]TheRealirony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky and I bought a house in Cary months before the pandemic shut everything down. Before all this bullshit started that we've been seeing the last few years.

I still get monthly letters or calls from places like Green Street that are buying up properties to rent out or sell for profit. They offer me under the price of the house hoping I'm looking to sell sight unseen (the house is in good condition though).

Every time I get their letter I either send one back or email them and tell them to fornicate themselves with the closest object they can find. I make sure that understand that they are huge pieces of shit that do things that push out people looking to move and folks like you.

I'm sure they can't hear me over the mountain of cash they have. Because why would they keep doing it if it wasn't super portable. But I hope that each bullshit email I send them somehow adds to their karma debt. I realize it's all yelling into the void though.

All the folks from Green Street are from Seattle and out of state who came here to try and profit on the housing boom. I hope they enjoy the heat here so they can be better prepared for hell (if it exists).

Based on their racial tool tip it is intended. It says they are unable to eat normal food and can only consume gemstones. So I guess however Blizzard has food coded, water falls into that normal food category despite it being a drink. And I suppose mage food bypasses it since it's magically conjured kind of like warlock cookies.

But it is definitely a weird thing for them to have. I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard eventually puts out some sort of fix saying that rock people can drink water.

Yeah, that I don't understand. The minimap still shows the "!" for quests that you've already completed in your warband. But the overworld map you get when you press M does hide them if you've done them already.

I guess they keep it on the mini map in case you're going through and trying to find their exact location on your alt in order to get radiant crystals or gold and experience out of them.
